Great Italian Food
by JoeM47
Now this is the reason I go out to eat. Large portions, draft beer, and a funny bartender. I eat out alone and lots of places can be really unwelcoming. I only order a drink and an entree because I am on a budget. This place is the way is should be everywhere. The bartender, Bradley, remembers me every time and I have fun watching my program with him. The food is always good, I like the steak, and on my second visit Bradley bought me dessert. I like that. I haven't been in a place in a long time where something was on them just to be hospitable. Anyway, I recommend it. Good value for your dollar.
- Pros: Good food, friendly service, good value
We Loved It!! Great for Groups!
by Cathy36
A large group of my friends and I were out in the Village on the weekend, and this restaurant was the only one that would accommodate us. They were SO COOL. Not only did they seat all 12 of us together, but they made our dinner so much fun! The waiter suggested the best dishes and served them family style just for us, so everyone got to try everything! We had bruschetta, a vegetable in pastry (that was so delicious!), thin crust pizza, the best fried calamari, and their specialty salad (I can't remember that name) that I really loved. I had coconut crusted salmon with the tastiest mashed potatoes I have ever had. I also tried my friend's Lobster Ravioli was out of this world. We had a big selection of their cakes, which were all great, my favorite was the red velvet. Just an awesome place. The food was great, the service was awesome and the location is right in the center of Greenwich Village, with a wall of windows so you really can appreciate that your in the village. Oh, and the owner stopped by our table and gave us free tickets for the comedy show in their comedy club. We couldn't go that night and plan to go back next weekend, so I'll let you know. I can highly recommend this restaurant - good food, good wine, and friendly service.
- Pros: Ambience, great food, service, and an awesome location.
- Cons: none
You love desserts- Then this IS the place!

I don't know what that other reviewer is talking about. If she wanted Betty Crocker she should have stayed home. They make the best chocolate cake I have ever had! I am local to Greenwich Village, and my boyfriend and I go at least twice a week for dessert and cappucino (Eduardo makes the best one)! My boyfriend's favorite is the apple pie a la mode- heavenly. The only negative is they can be very busy on a Saturday night and will not seat dessert in the outdoor cafe until 11ish. Great neighborhood place with friendly service and a tremendous dessert selection and gelato bar;Although to be honest we never seem to get to the gelato.
- Pros: Great atmosphere, desserts and service
- Cons: Can be very busy on weekends
Do you love dessert? Then go somewhere else!

Stopped here for a little bite of dessert. Ordered the chocolate cake - expected it to be sponge-like, instead got a rich brownie. I like brownies, but at least write it in the description that it's a brownie and not call it cake. I was in the mood for a nice most sponge cake! They also have something called pineapple tiramisu, and my friend was craving tiramisu. She wasn't sure what the pineapple part meant, whether it was the normal espresso flavored tiramisu and they just added pineapples on top, or if it was pineapple flavored cake that they called tiramisu. They said it was the first, but it turned out to be the latter. She was plenty disappointed but tried it anyway. It was too sweet and tasted like it was soaked in pineapple syrup. Do yourself a favor and pass on this place for dessert! Food may still be good though, but I'm not taking chances.
AMAZING!!

I'm a locations manager for a major cable network, and we have filmed a few different scenes at Caffe del Mare for one of our shows. We had a FANTASTIC experience here - the staff was so helpful, the ambiance was lovely and the food was delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a comfortable, fun and friendly place to grab a good bite to eat. It's a great go-to place that won't let you down.
Wait staff is really lacking
by premier
I went to this restaurant on a not too busy Sunday afternoon. We opted to sit outside and this is when we start to notice it will not be a pleasurable experience.
The wait staff noticed us when we first sat down but we where waiting a while for our menu to arrive. While waiting, a party of 4 arrives and their menus & orders are taken ahead of us while we were there sitting and waiting. For some reason their food & drinks arrive ahead of us. Theirs, a varying array of food & drinks whereas we were just a simple order of drinks and 1 appetizer. You would have thought ours would arrive first since it was something simple but not here.
The thing that really irritated me was the waiter handing our food & drinks through the window instead of walking to our table and serving us like a waiter at a restaurant not a cafeteria or fast food place. Our appetizer was mediocre at best.
Would I dine here again? Not even if they paid me!!
- Pros: Has potential to be a decent spot, not expensive
- Cons: The staff need to learn etiquette
Awful all round.

I ate here last night - simply the worst meal i have ever endured. My pasta with pork ragu was sent back becasue it was full of tough bones! My mother's rigatoni with wild mushrooms and pecorino cheese was like a soup - disgusting! They say that bad luck comes in threes, and so it proved. My father's risotto was undercooked and dry. I sincerely doubt whether the 'chef' has ever cooked a pasta dish in his life. Do not head to this pretend Italian restuarant.
- Pros: None
- Cons: food, service
Great Place

Nice Place. Good place to bring a couple people and just chat about your day. Nice scene, good crowd. Would recommend it. Nice in the neighborhood, close to home can walk from there. I loved the entrees! Wonderful!
AMAZING BRUNCH FOOD, PASTAS, & DESSERTS...BUT PIZZAS & DINNER ENTREES ARE HORRIBLE
by muccigucci
I'm a local so I've eaten here several times.
The pastas are OUT OF THIS WORLD AMAZING! The rigatoni alla percoraia (rigatoni with wild mushroom & pecorino cheeses) is SUPERB and I've ordered it more than once. The second time, I requested more of the cheese sauce it's in.
The various raviolis are AMAZING; the ricotta cheese they use is so good, you forget that there is a tasty sauce paired with it.
I was NOT happy with the pizza I've had from here. I only tried the margherita and it just reminded me of a dominos cheese pizza (I'm embarassed to admit I know what that tastes like).
The desserts ROCK...always very creamy & lucious without being so rich and large in proportion it makes one feel sick.
The items I've had from the entree section of the menu (mostly meats) have all been very bad. I've gotten the grilled salmon (not the coconut crusted), chicken rolls, and the tuna. All horrible.
Finally, I had an asparagus, mushroom, and tomato omlette today. It was one of the BEST omlettes I've had in a long time. I usually have to season them with salt and pepper and this one took not a dash of either. The ingredients were also very fresh and cooked to perfect texture for an omlette. I will be ordering brunch from here again!!!
- Pros: GREAT BRUNCH, DESSERTS, PASTA
- Cons: HORRIBLE ENTREES & PIZZAS
Best pasta of the year!
by rellevart
One day me and my frd were craving for pasta, and we looked at the menus in all four corners of Bleeker /MacDougal. We decided to come to Caffe del mare even though it's a little more pricey than the other ones (which was only like $15 for the pasta we ordered) because of the simple yummy description of the pasta on the menu--tagliatelle with smoked salmon in a RICH pink sauce--we loved rich AND pink sauces. The portion was just perfect, it wasnt too much that you would have to walk out of the restaurant holding ur belly. The sauce wasn't too salty at all, which a lot of italian restaurants in america tend to be. The pasta!! OH THE PASTA!! It was soooooo chewy and soooo freesh, i suspect that they really make it fresh on a regular basis in their very own kitchen!!! This is the first time in a long while that I actually crave for even MORE food after a very fulfilling meal. I think that happens only when u have just eaten reallllly great food.
- Pros: Environment, Pasta
- Cons: window seats are tight
