Party Time!
by SallyGeo
Went to Maracas to celebrate a friend's birthday. Everyone had a blast. The food was good and the drinks were very good. Our waiter was also excellent. Will definitely retun.
- Pros: margaritas, fun atmosphere
Tiny portions, horrible food
by criticoneone
Went here for lunch on a Sunday. First of all we had no utensils and we actually had to get up and get the waiters attention for him to finally bring us forks. The portions are so small that I could have finished it in 1 bite. That would be the case if I actually ate the food. I took one bite and that was it for me. The popcorn shrimp was disgusting! As if they reheated frozen food. The tiny burgers had nasty meat. It was salty and had a musky taste. The margarita was okay, but it was so small. I will never ever go back to this place...stay away!!
- Pros: outside seating
- Cons: EVERYTHING
Great Restaurant
by tonydking
I don't understand the need for bashing a place so badly. Take it from me: the food's good, the prices are far beyond reasonable, the staff is extremely friendly and very compitent, the margaritas are delicious, and the atmosphere is so much fun.
It's very unfortunate that most reviewers post their opinions only when they have an unenjoyable experience.
In my opinion, Maracas (and other great restaurants) can only become better by losing the bickering customers.
Maracas Bad Times In The Village
by JorgeQV1
Last weekend a few friends and I decided to stop at Maracas for their brunch. Their service, food - drinks used to be excellent but now they are back at square one. To summarize the experience:
1) 30 minutes before the waiter even came to greet us
2) THEY HAVE THE NERVE TO CHARGE $3.00 DOLLARS FOR EXTRA CHIPS AND AN OVER CUMIN FLAVORED, WATER DOWN SALSA!
3) Waiter got order wrong or perhaps kitchen
4) They monitor time at table so they save on the "All you can drink scam brunch"
5) Used the cheapest tequila possible to make Margaritas - we all know good tequila and mixer does no a yellow margarita make
6) Staff lack customer service skills - perhaps it's not staff but the MANAGER since it starts at the top
7) Ground beef poured over the tostada salad looks like Alpo with water
8) Water glasses are spotty - PLEASE USE CASCADE!
9) Utensils are tarnished
10) Get rid of those UGLY GREEN PLASTIC table covers = TACKY!
So if you wish to waste your money - this is the place to come to or you may decide to take the time to research and indeed find BETTER Mexican places as we have which are truly worth the money we need to work for so very hard these recession days.
P.S. The only reason I gave a 1 star rating is because if I did not the review would not publish. My real rating = NEGATIVE 10 Stars

Cindy, Vixen and Shadow
- Pros: Nothing at least any more
- Cons: All
Really bad food!
by rachrog12
I met some friends here for dinner and drinks after work. Drinks - good. Food - some of the worst food I have ever eaten. The chopped meat (whatever they call it, it is sloppy-joe like) taco was inedible. And funny, they required a credit card to make a reservation. When I got there I expected a nice place, not a glorified restaurant bar, which is what it is. Go for drinks, not for food.
- Pros: outdoor seating
- Cons: terrible food
Best quesidillahs
by magicloop2009
I like the rice and the salsa sauce, homefries, chicken chalatas, avacados, and the taco/burritos. Soups are also spicy and delicious. Mines well save this place for a special treat on a rainy day
- Pros: Great food and bar
- Cons: crowds, slow service, and prices
Sub par food and drink. There are tons of better places!
by oaainnyc
I went here with some friends for brunc a couple weeks back and I will not be returning. There are way to many better brunch spots in NY.
My gripe is that the food and drinks are subpar.
I got a steak wrap or something and the unlimited drinks add-on which is $5.
You get unlimited drinks from 90 minutes from the point you are seated. The server actually writes the time you are seated on a card on your table. A bit tacky, I think. And if the bar or your server is running slow, it's not really the most fair deal.
The mimosas were all OJ with a splash of champagne. I've never had such a weak mimosa anywhere.
The food was nasty. The steak in my dish was like ground up dog food and they breakfast potatos were mashed potatos.
They charge extra for everything.
Basically, i felt insulted by the food and the drink. Why offer an unlimited drink special and the insult your patrons by serving OJ with a splash of champagne? Why is the food quality so low here--this is NY!
The vibe is festive, the service was good, but to me quality of food and drink is more important.
- Pros: subpar food and drink
- Cons: fun with a group
Great place to party...with your food!
by CindyB3
Kicked off a bacholorette party dinner at Maracas on Saturday evening...and what a kick off it was! Colleen, one of the managers not only assisted with the stress free preparations but ensured a stress free time with festivities that included spinning disco globes, Mexican sombreros, and without request played the song "Going to the Chapel!" What a celebration when the entire restaurant stops to sing along with you! Drinks were strong but good, food was delicious...the stuffed chicken is a must try that was recomended by Raul a hottie waiter with a killer smile and excellent service! Everything about this place from the management, service staff, to other patrons was certainly something to keep coming back for!
Great place for a birthday dinner!
by michy623
I had a birthday dinner here in June on a Tuesday and I was very pleased! The atmosphere is really fun and the food is good/reasonably priced. It wasn't too loud but not too quiet either. The drinks were delicious and very nicely decorated. Their birthday package including a tequila shot, a cake, and a sombrero was really fun!
So much for a good thing
by Jorgeh1
It amazes me why places go from bad to good and then go back to being terrible.
It is true what other reviews say about Maracas now days. THEY have the nerve to charge $3.00 dollars for additional chips and salsa. Next time (if there is a next time) I will bring my own bag of chips and salsa that does not taste like you are swallowing bags of cumin. Can someone tell the Salsa maker at Maracas to check his/her taste buds?
The food is lousy. I ordered that tostada salad and though I had requested the Chicken one I received the beef and it look like ALPO poured over lettuce!
The prices have gone up for the brunch and that is cool BUT do the service and food have to suffer as well?
The waiter was nice and attempted to be accommodating but at the end the experience which used to be a good has returned to being a horrible one.
There are indeed better places in NYC than Maracas ....too bad management seems to be changing the place so often..
Do not waste your time or money on this place
- Pros: There used to be
- Cons: MANY
