Comfortable, Large rooms, fun neighborhood

by nprfan at Citysearch

My husband and I enjoy trying new NYC boutique hotels (not chains) and were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The room was much larger than the averaged sized NYC rooms, their beds were like tempurpedic mattresses and was a California king. They had down comforters and pillows. They offered simple, yet diverse breakfast was on the ground level. We didn't have a room with a city view, but didn't feel like we missed that. Perhaps next time when we return!

  • Pros: Comfortable beds, Large Rooms, Close to Subway.
  • Cons: No Ironing board in room.

Creatures and really loud club downstairs till 4AM

by CathyBarb at Citysearch

The walls are paper thin and the club downstairs vibrates loud beats till 4AM. The staff is rude and there are much better places to stay in the LES like the new Thompson hotel.

Dirty floors and things crawling around.

  • Pros: Could have been nice
  • Cons: We were woken up all night long with this thumping.

great time

by weiver at Citysearch

Loved this place, the location, the people at the hotel and the neighborhood scene. Best on the weekends, (the block comes alive at night). The lower East side was awesome, no longer scary. This is more of a funuxury hotel than true luxury. It is a bit edgy but we loved it and the steam shower was amazing.

  • Pros: great staff
  • Cons: none

Never Again!

by dbarnes963 at Citysearch

My husband and I had stayed at this hotel last fall and had a pleasant experience despite the unsavory neighborhood. We had an issue with the carpet being wet that was very strange. Apparently this hotel is refurbished and the floors beneath the carpet are not even. When there is a rain, the water collects into the dips of the floor and creates wet spots in the carpet. We thought it was a one time thing, but it was unpleasant to walk on wet carpet most of the week. We could not change rooms because they were fully booked. (FYI: They offered no discount.) I booked this hotel last week (the only one left due to a film festival in NYC) and had the very same wet carpet experience and was changed into a different room facing the street. I should have kept the wet carpet! This hotel faces several bars and the noise is deafening all night long. That was the start of the barrage of problems. My TV did not work-- it kept going to fuzz. The engineers could not fix it. I ordered a town car for a business meeting from a clerk at the front desk who apparently called one of his friends rather than a reputable company. A car that looked like a family of ten had been living in it showed up. Duct tape on the seats, filthy, etc. All in all, this hotel reflects the neighborhood that it is located in--sketchy, at best. Hotel class and sophistication are reflected in the service and the staff and this hotel is lacking in both.

  • Pros: Comfy beds, nice light
  • Cons: Street noise, rude service

This luxury hotel towers over Lower East Side tenements, giving guests a unique view of the city.

by Contributor at Citysearch

The tallest, most modern structure on its Lower East Side block, this hotel attracts artsy celebrities, Europeans and rich hipsters. The guest rooms are 30 percent larger than average NYC hotel rooms. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow guests to look out onto the street while they bathe in two-person Japanese-style soaking tubs. Automatic curtains can be set to let sunlight in as the morning wake-up call goes off. In designer Piero Lissoni's second-floor airport-themed lounge, guests can relax with a drink and an international newspaper, while the first-floor lounge, bar and glass-encased restaurant, all created by Marcel Wanders, are open to the public.

Favorite hotel in New York!

by yolanda212 at Citysearch

My mom came to visit and we have stayed at many hotels but nothing is like this one. Every room has glass walls, giving you an unobstuctive view of upper or lower Manhattan. Amazing and took my breath away.

We rented a medium room and were upgrated to a suite! Great touch. the service was professional and attentive.

Did I mention the breakfast? Outstanding and in a beautiful room with a HUGE skylight.

Can`t wait till my mom comes back!

Okay for a business traveler

by angtho at Citysearch

i went on business - paid $600 a night for a suite and enjoyed the awesome views of the empire state building and the apartments across the way. however, it would have been nice to have an alarm clock, better reception on the TV (which were plasmas by the way) and better lighting in the bathroom. high speed internet connections that i didn't pay for is always nice - the gym, although small, had state-of-the art cardio equipment. door staff were incredibly friendly and helfpul. did i mention the bed was amazing?

  • Pros: mattress, views
  • Cons: location, bathroom lighting

Hotel on Undistinguished

by jonathanlehman at Citysearch

My Regular room was located on the fourth floor; it was generously sized for New York standards. The bed, a Tempur-pedic mattress covered in Frette linens, was comfortable and luxurious. However, with nothing on the wall except for a small flat-screen television and the only color coming from a diminutive vase with two flowers, the decor straddled the line between minimalist chic and unacceptably stark. At $315 a night, an alarm clock might have been nice. The bathroom was large with a steam shower and high-end toiletries. However, I think the room felt shoddily constructed; the tiles in the bathroom didnt line up with the walls and the baseboards were uneven, revealing unfinished parts of the construction that should have remained hidden. For a more consistent experience and better value, I would choose one of the established properties in Soho or Tribeca if youre set on a below-14th Street experience.

  • Pros: location, steam showers, free wireless
  • Cons: shoddy construction, under-appointed rooms, indifferent staff

Huge Balcony!!!!

by dyawman at Citysearch

The hotel is very neatly decorated...very modern. All the hotel staff were very nice and accommodating. Got a room here for New Years and would do it again...the lounge on the main floor was bumping, but the great thing is no one can get up to your room and wonder...they need a key to access the elevator....oh and did i mention huge balconies....I mean bigger then your room HUGE.

  • Pros: Location, Views, Decor
  • Cons: some rooms are small
