yum

by ElizabethMaertens

but good. the yummy sandwiches come in brown paper bags which make for good travel. And they have a very nice lemonade.

  • Pros: good bread, good pork chops, good veg option
  • Cons: no place to sit

Amazing sandwiches, great customer service

by snackster

Just wanted to highlight a great experience I had at Nicky's last night. I was out with some friends for a birthday dinner and we had been waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant for over an hour. We were starving and decided to go to Nicky's for a quick bite that we could take to a bar. We'd been there before and love their super spicy, delicious sandwiches. The door to Nicky's was open but we walked in and realized they were actually already closed. We told them it was our friend's birthday and asked if there was any way they could make just 3 more sandwiches. That was all it took: they cheerfully made them. They could've easily shown us the door or thrown our order together hastily, but they were friendly from start to finish. We left a well-deserved $20 tip in the jar. Love it when NYC feels like a small town!

  • Pros: friendly staff
  • Cons: very small space

Great sandwiches, cheap, what's to criticize?

by denardo

Excellent, fresh vietnamese sandwiches at low prices. You can't get a better meal for this price. I have to write more because apparently my review has to be at least 100 characters, but there is really nothing more to say! If you like pork and sardines you are in business.

  • Pros: Cheap, fresh, quick
  • Cons: None

Tasty Sandwiches

by poonie37

The decor is nothing to rave about but it's all about the food isn't it?

I definitely recommend the chicken sandwich (ask for spicy) and speaking on the behalf of my colleague the sardine sandwich is another winner.

Call me a pig but I can definitely eat two sandwiches at one sitting.

Place offers free delivery with a minimum of $7.

Excellent

by torgosmanos

A mellow & tiny hole-in-the-wall shop that used to be a skateboard store, Nicky's is classic Vietnamese sandwichs but far better than I've had at older places. Much cleaner flavors, crispy baguettes, pickled carrot cuccumber, fresh cilantro and jalapeno. There's only 5-6 choices of sandwichs, soda, and Vietnamese coffee (espresso w. condensed milk, awesome) For $3.95 you are getting a smallish sandwich, not a Blimpie double decker submarine. But being of a fairly decent appetite, it's filling for anyone. Be warned, everyone knows about Nicky's now... so be prepared to wait for about 10-15 orders already placed before you arrive at peak times... order, go do some errands and come back in 10-15 min. Fortunately I work near their Atlantic Ave shop in Brooklyn, where lines are a bit shorter... but if you haven't tried a Vietnamese sandwich... a marriage of French culinary tradition to Southeast Asian flavors... you have to, it's really amazing. Ask for extra spicey for an added dose of fresh cut jalapenos if you dare.

  • Pros: Cheap, mellow, delicious, fresh, best of Vietnamese sandwichs
  • Cons: A bit cramped, not much seating, 3 2-top tables inside, 2 outside.

Great Vietnamese Sandwiches

by juicewheez

Very small menu - about 5 different ways to make the sandwich. I go back and forth between the Portobello and the Sardine. A great quick, tasty sandwich. They have occasionally run out of bread before the end of the day, so don't risk going close to closing time.

Just More Silly Hype

by randelcole

The sandwhich is fine but the place is a hole int he wall and there is no place to sit. There is way too much hype for places like this and the Shake Shack. You would think that people just witnessed the second coming (as if there was every a first one).

  • Pros: good bread and nice flavors
  • Cons: a hole in the wall. Like eating standing up on a dirty street?

This place is a great find

by irvinsha

I read about this place in one of those "Best of New York" magazines. I haven't run into too many Banh Mi vendors outside of this place, but the sandwiches really are delicious. The bread is perfectly chewy and the insides are sooo good. Also, at < $4 per sandwich, the prices really can't be beat. Everyone should try this place some time.

  • Pros: Great sandwiches, great value
  • Cons: Tiny, tiny shop that's a little out of the way

The Most Delicious Viet Sandwich Ever!

by floridmimi

The shop is not spacious, but service is affable. The best part is the sandwich and you choose one of their selections and ask for "no pickles please."

  • Pros: The sandwiches!
  • Cons: Small shop :(
