Used to be good, but now I'll never go back
by JR32285 at Citysearch
Today I went there to celebrate my brothers 21st birthday. I'd gone here before the week OF my birthday, never on my actual birthday because it fell during the week. Never had a problem before going that weekend. So we go the Friday night of that week and get told "No, its only on the day of your birthday" after we buy 3 rounds of drinks and notice the price is higher then it should be. The same guy who served me drinks after my birthday says "On days I work here its always been that way" so b*llsh*t. On top of that my brother had moved away from the bar slightly to put the drinks away because crowding had led to people spilling drinks and the bar tender curses up a storm and then says its however much AND tip, demanding it. Afterwards both tenders were being crass and moody. After finding out my brother wasnt drinking free left. You're better off going to any other place in the area then this dump. Pourhouse just a few blocks away.
- Pros: Used to have cheap drinks, has gone up.
- Cons: Small space, horrible bathrooms, WORST TENDERS EVER.
Just Avoid the Grossness of Cheap Shots
by 1GoodSpanker at Citysearch
This place is synonomous to a latrine, it is disgusting, filthy, gross, a total crapper. I'm sure the Dept of Health would have a field day with this place. The Blondie barmaid always has a stick up her butt, always complaining about the "non-whites". The drinks are terrible, they are watered down and the work area is filthy. has anyone ever looked behind the bar to see where they wash the glasses out? Go ahead..have a gander. They demand tips, or you will not continued to be served. I wonder what the Better Buisness Dept will have to say about this? Hmm. ? I have witnessed small child in the place, the Dad was drinking while the little girl ran around.why ? I dont know, but they allow it. Hmm. what about that?
- Pros: There are no pros the place is the bottom of the barrel
- Cons: The blonde Bar maid who cannot make a drink to save a life
RE-OPENING THIS WEEKEND 10/22/09 BY SAME OWNER AS PATRIOT
by rebel1978 at Citysearch
This place is re-opening this weekend under new ownership (Tom McNeil). This is the same owner as Yogi's(which closed last year), The Patriot, and The Duck. Hopefully it will turn out to be another great country music dive bar, just like Yogi's aka bear bar used to be.
- Pros: dive bar, and the rest I'll update after it re-opens
Horrible Bartender
by patscheat at Citysearch
I've never taken the time to write a negative review, but I've never had such a terrible experience as I did at this sorry excuse for a bar. The bartender didn't see that I had already put his tip down, and when I walked away with my drinks he yelled at me to leave a tip, saying he wouldn't serve me if I didn't tip him. When I told him I already put the tip on the bar, he didn't seem to believe me.
Twenty minutes later, the same bartender turns off the music and yells to the whole bar, "People have to leave tips, and the tips have to be appropriate." I'm sorry if this guy was getting gipped, but perhaps it is in reaction to what a crappy bartender he is. In all my years of going to bars in the city, I've never had a bartender question a tip. This is the best help this bar can find for a Saturday night?
There were indeed plenty of cheap shots; unfortunately they were of the verbal abuse variety, rather than something more potable.
- Pros: PBR
- Cons: douche behind the bar
The best dive bar in town
by inwaves at Citysearch
Truly great place. When it's crowded, it's not so bad because the people are super friendly, the drinks are cheap and there are tons of games spread throughout the bar, and you can usually find a flip cup or beer pong gam going on in the back. God music and great people.
Agressive Macho bouncers spoil what could be a good place
by drink_club1 at Citysearch
Uh oh! Just when you think you find the perfect place, some idiot has to come along and ruin it. Our last visit was great. A fine mix of people showed up at the table, introduced themselves, and joined in the party. At first I made the mistake of buying a $4 Yuengling... with a tip that's $5, just like anywhere else. Then I noticed the $7 pitcher sign, and from there, things went well... We did indeed have a parade of people... all kinds, all ages, sitting with us, spreading the gossip, shaking hands, sharing the beer. Then Topher goes to the mens room. When he returns, he's being followed by a large goon. "I'm being thrown out," he yells to us on the way out. "This guy says I was smoking w++d in the bathroom." No trial. No proof. No evidence. (Topher doesn't smoke... not p*t, not anything.) Just a whiff of something that could have been there for ages. POW! A macho bouncer jumps in the act and spoils the night for the lot of us. So BE WARNED! You risk being thrown out of the place simply by being unlucky. Maybe it's better not to go in the first place. --Drink Club is a roving group of NYC Drinkers
- Pros: cheap beer/booze deals, friendly crowd
- Cons: over crowded, awful bouncers
Simply Awesome
by bklyndc at Citysearch
I've become a friday night frequenter of this place. Bouncers & bartenders are fun and super attentive whenever i go. It does get very packed and a bit uncomfortable when you don't get a seat, but with $7 pitchers - who cares?
I've enticed my friends to Cheap Shots by telling them tehre's anair hockey table. It's great if you can actually get to the table.
The bathroom is a bit questionable, but it's so much fun waiting on line and chatting with drunk people!
Best dive bar ever - the only one i like to go to. Great job Cheap Shots!
- Pros: bartender/ bouncers/ airhockey
- Cons: bathroom
Friendly atmosphere
by BlueRain at Citysearch
This is my favorite Friday night hangout spot. Everyone is really friendly, the bouncers, the bartenders, the drunks. Drinks are dirt cheap $7 pitchers, $2 shots. Selections on the juke box range from Willie Nelson to The Spice Girls to Jay Z. There's something for everyone. The crowd is super diverse, and even on your first visit you feel like a regular. The only down side is that it gets super crowded after 8pm (if you want to look at that as a "down side"), and the bathrooms aren't the best in town. All in all CheapShots rocks! The best dive bar in the city.
- Pros: cheap drinks, friendly atmosphere
- Cons: bathroom
The name is truth in advertising

Drink free on your birthday. Drink cheap any other time. Yeah, it's full of 22 year olds. Yeah, people heave on the floor. But who cares?... or rather that's the charm of this place. With the friendliest crowd this side of The Patriot, the cheapest drinks this side of the Hudson River, this is a great place. You need to come early to get a table. It's a small place, and at these prices it's packed. No food, but who needs it? --Drink Club is a roving group of NYC Drinkers
- Pros: cheap prices, friendly clientelle
- Cons: messy floor
Quality Dive

A must on any EV dive bar crawl. The $2 shots will help ensure a proper bloodbath ensues, especially at 2pm.
- Pros: "Cheap Shots"
