Far from the best taste-wise; Huge piece of crumpled plastic found in food!

by mongz

With the TimeOut NY review it boasts on its menu front, I thought this place would be pretty good. Unfortunately, my take out was far below average. Aside from the fact that I found a sizeable piece of crumpled (cooked?) plastic in my takeout dish, the food's taste was very mediocre. I got the Lamb Roganjosh, Aloo Gobi Mutter, and some thin, crispy, spiced bread. The lamb was tough and very boring (compared to other local take-outs in the area), the cauliflower was watery-mushy, and the bread was burnt. I won't be ordering from here again.

  • Pros: Prompt delivery service during busy evening hours
  • Cons: It's a lot to pay for unexceptional food, particularly given the competition

At a West Village crossroads, residents tour every corner of India.

by Katie Heffernan

The Scene
The bustling scene at Bleecker and Seventh drifts in through this two-story restaurant's bay windows, dressing up the minimalism inside. Enticed by the regional menu, mixed groups settle into the simple, contemporary style of spacious gray booths and crisp white linens, to be served by timid but timely waiters.

The Food
Chef-owner Kausik Roy takes his Brick Lane kudos and delivers authentic Indian cuisine from each province, with a zing that appeases die-hard fire-eaters and impresses the dabblers. To start, tawa crab's pepper-specked real meat bursts with savory oceanic flavor. From Punjab, chole peshawari's slow-cooked complexity of chickpeas and cubed potatoes simmers with spice, while Northern lamb pasanda soothes the taste buds in a docile tomato-cashew sauce. Unusual Khandahari naan arrives piping hot, but without its cherry-raisin promise, and kheer's acquired taste--of fried milkballs dunked in sticky liquid sugar--should be skipped for rice pudding of a softer sweetness.

phenomemal Indian food, great people

by bartendini

I would strongly recommend this place. After trying numerous Indian Restaraunts around the city I have to say that this one is with a doubt my favorite. the people are nice, the restaraunt is nice, and most importantly, the food is incredible. Eat there, and try the Lamb Pasanda. I'm no Indian (jew actually) but this place is stellar!!!

  • Pros: great food, nice people, comfy restaraunt
  • Cons: a bit pricy
