I am really particular about my haircuts and color and have finally settled down with Maria. She is so talented and super sweet, and always does exactly what I ask for (except better). she uses warm colors that don't turn brassy, and places lighter pieces throughout your hair so that it perfectly picks up the light. my friends always say i look like a celebrity when she's done with me. love her.

Pros: great color, friendly staff

Cons: slightly pricey, no head massages

This salon is modern and has great decor. The salon is very spacious and with a zen like feel. They use great products (Phyto) etc. and my color came out perfect. I get compliments all the time. I got a half head of highlights and asked for a "caramel" color. They came out perfect!

I have been to a million places for color, most are ok but not good enough to make me come back. I went to Sherwin and I love my color, it is exactly what I wanted, the color is very bright, and they actually did a good job on giving me a blowout afterwards! I have very curly hair so I never get a blowout that I actually like, not to mention that it is for free with color! I will definitely be going back to Sherwin and would recommend him to everyone. The environment is nice, laid-back, not stuffy, and it is a great space.

MARLENE is by far the best hair stylist I have ever experienced! She has a talent and ability that can only be described as exquisite. Being a performer and in the public eye, it had been very difficult to find a consistent and talented men's hair stylist until Marlene. She is an artist with highly tuned skill and cuts my hair in such a way that people always comment on it. I have literally had strangers approach me on the street to compliment my hair cut ( a first) I have recently relocated to LA and still will not let anyone else cut my hair until I come back to NYC for work, and go immediately to see Marlene. Yes she is that good. The salon is very pleasant, friendly and well maintained. If you are a stylish man who wants a fine tuned and elegant hair cut then Marlene is the stylist for you.

If you are looking for a colorist, I recommend Maria. I recently moved to Manhattan and was hesistant to try a new place after being with my hairdresser for over 5 years. I have tried pretty much every color and have come to have high expectations. Maria did exactly what I asked for and made it look very natural. She is very precise and has a lot of patience. Her experience shows.

Pros: you'll leave feeling happy you have a great 'do

Cons: pricey

I was mad at my old hairdresser (because he couldn't take me at the last minute) and cheated on him with O2. Walking in, I was greeted with a friendly receptionist after being 15 minutes late. I was introduced to Amy and we talked about my vision for my tresses. I got shampooed- it was glorious- I love to have my head massaged. My haircut went well it seemed. Amy said that she would see me a little later after my color treatment. In my head I assumed she would see me to style my hair after the color treatment. I was to be disappointed. Sherwin, the colorist, was personable and we talked about football. The experience was great for the most part except that I would have liked my hairdresser to have finished styling my hair rather than leave me in the hands of the one who washed my hair who asked me if I wanted to any hair products in my hair! I pay them to be the expert on that! Needless to say, it was not styled the way I wanted ( bangs were too tighltly curled and swept to one side) and I walked out of there deflated, not my usual glee from having my hair done. When I woke up the next morning, my bangs finally looked like what I envisioned and my boyfriend even commented how nice it looked...after a night's sleep!

Pros: Asian hairstylists who know asian hair

Cons: better service, follow through with cut, and style

I got the best hair cut by Hiroshi. The best service! They use the best quality products! Just recently had my hair colored there for the 1st time and I love it! 1st time in my life I left the hair salon after color process (blond color) and my hair was very soft!!!! Will never use anyone else!!!!

Before discovering Salon 02- I went to another salon for japanese straightening. My hair was never wash and go. It was dry and in the humidity it kinked. I considered it a waste of money living in NYC in the summer!! After reading the reviews on city search, I went to Salon 02 last year for the straightening. I first had a consult with Hiroshi (the owner). After, a week I had my appointment. It was exactly what I wanted...wash and go hair. It was soft, silky and shiny. A few weeks later, I ditched my hairstylists and decided to try Penny at Salon 02-I have been going to her ever since. I have extremely long hair and she was able to give me wonderful layers, bangs and body. What is wonderful is that every few weeks, I get complimentary bangs trims! I have never been happier with my hair. I always get compliments. I redid the Japanese straightening again a few weeks ago (after a year)- and again, its excellent. I recommended it to a friend and she did it yesterday and was also amazed at the results. It may be pricey compared to other salons in NYC- but its well worth the money. I have a few friends who went to the cheaper salons and none have the wash and go hair that I got at Salon 02. The staff is friendly, helpful and honest. They tell you what will and won't work on your hair.I can say, that after living here for a few years, and trying numerous salons, I will never go back to any other salon but Salon 02!

My wife and I have been going to Hiroshi for years. He always gives a great haircut for both of us and the salon is a very relaxing environment. Debbie also does a great job with manicures and pedicures.

I went to Salon O2 for my wedding updo and make-up, and Hiroshi is my hero. Every hair stylist I've gone to has commented about about hair's unusual texture--thick, heavy, long, resilient, and glossy/slippery. Nice hair, but very difficult for an updo. In the past, I've gone to many reputable high-end salons in NYC whenever I needed an updo for a special event. The outcome was always a tightly pulled back bun with many many pins to try and hold the look in place. Ouch, and not particularly interesting. Hiroshi was creative (and patient) in the design of the updo (better than anything I've seen in magazines) and how he used the pins. I was so impressed with his skills and the genuine care he took to helping me look my best on my wedding day. Thank you, Hiroshi! I also had my make-up professionally done at Salon O2. I left (not looking like a made-up doll which is what usually happens) but rather me plus plus. I didn't know I could look so good. It was really a transformation. At the wedding, I received almost more comments about my hair and make-up than my wedding dress!
