They're updating their website-Make sure they offer the service that you want!

by flametresses

I went to Spa Chinois for the first time yesterday, 9/3. I had booked the SPA CHINOIS SIGNATURE JOURNEY FACIAL but was told they really didn't offer that service any longer. However, because I had booked it through WAYSPA they said they'd honor it. When I got there I was told that the Reiki practitioner had an emergency and couldn't make it, but that another esthetician was on her way who could do the SAME service. I was offered a complimentary hair treatment and scalp massage but declined the offer. I left and came back. Phoebe, the esthetician, brought me to the facial room and that was when I learned that she had no idea that I had booked the SIGNATURE JOURNEY package, and that she didn't do any kind of energy/chakra/stone work. I was overdue for a facial so I did the COUTURE facial instead. Phoebe was very friendly and professional and I really enjoyed the service. I was, however, disappointed because I was really looking forward to the service I had originally booked and felt that I had been misled.

Again, the spa is very attractive and the staff very friendly, but they need to get their website updated ASAP so as to avoid future situations like this.

  • Pros: Attractive environment, friendly and professional staff
  • Cons: Not necessarily organized or accurate in their listing of services

Best Facial Ever!!

by annoymoussss

For the first time, I actually enjoyed my facial. I was late for my appointment, and the facialist named Phoebe took me anyway and gave me the best facial! My skin is clearing up day by day...I am for sure going back and see her!!!

  • Pros: great service, EVEN the receptionist..they pulled strings for my service! don't understand what the others are talking about!
  • Cons: alittle bit cold.

Great facial

by sarahebyrne

I went during Spa Week to get the Green Tea Facial which was wonderful (and for the first time, I didn't break out after a facial). I'm not sure it's worth the regular $170 though. Reception was not friendly. But since my skin looked amazing, and the facialist listened to me and respected me (instead of some facials where they just treat you like your skin is horrible), I will definitely go back.

  • Pros: Great facial
  • Cons: Unfriendly staff

Amazing facial with Mariana, massage just okay

by glaxtitute

I booked a 90 min massage and the 60 min couture facial and took advantage of the 40% off all services for first time clients special. That deal is really one of the best I've ever seen and would highly recommend everyone take advantage of it. I originally wanted the 90 min hot stone massage but when I called to book, the receptionist told me that their normal person who does that is on leave and that the manager of the salon would call me back to discuss other options. To my surprise, the manager did call me back a day later to discuss what my needs were and why I was coming for the massage and made some recommendations based upon that. She recommended the 60 min aromatheraphy massage combined with the a 30 min cranial massage. When I arrived for my appts on a Sat afternoon I was greeted warmly by the recepionist and offered some tea. She then led me to the changing area to change into a robe and slippers and then upstairs to a more comfortable waiting area which includes an outdoor roofdeck. They came and got me for my massaage 1st w/Ping. I felt my massage was just okay. I didn't really smell any "aromatherapy" in the oils she used and she really needed to use more oil on my body. At times she was massaging dry skin. The cranial massage didn't seem like anything great either. However, afterwards I had a PHENOMENAL facial with Mariana. She was very warm and made me feel totally at ease. She asked me about my skin and what products I use and examined my skin prior to beginning the facial. She recommended a glycolic peel along w/the facial since I have so many broken capillaries/rosacea on my face. She did a fantastic job cleansing and exfoliating my skin and gives a wonderful massage with facial. She even threw in a little eyebrow shaping/lip wax at no charge at the end. In the end, my skin looked better then I had ever seen it and the red rosacea had even gone away. I booked my next appt w/Marina before I left even. Highly recommend Mariana!

  • Pros: Great facial!, no hard sell on products, great deal/price
  • Cons: Can hear some noise from the hall when in treatment room, slippers aren't great

The Best Customer Service... and Massage!

by jdia352

I went to Spa Chinois today by recommendation of my hotel. I spoke to Emily on the phone early in the morning hoping to squeeze me in for a last minute Spa Week service. She was polite on the phone and booked me right in when there was a cancellation. In the midst of what seemed to be very hectic, Emily remained calm and took me right where i needed to be. My massage was so relaxing and I wish I could take Ping with me everywhere I go! Next time I am in the area, I will definitely be booking my appointment with Ping! The only complaint I have is to possibly have the rooms more quiet, other then that Spa Chinois is the best!

Avoid during Spa Week

by w_xy2006

They were pretty rude during Spa Week. I don't understand it. If they're going to give out deals for $50 treatments, they shouldn't give people lectures about their "regular customers" needs coming first.

I was in need of a good skin cleaning and from the minute I walked through the door, I was treated like a star! The soft calming music through out really puts your mind at ease. The treatment was done so effectively and was made so pleasurable by the wonderful Dina! You can't go wrong here, they really know how to treat their clientele.

Best Massage ever!

by misscannon

My first visit to Spa Chinois last week was amazing. I highly recommend the Swedish Massage with Ping (her skills will render you completely relaxed in ways you haven't been in years). The decor is beautiful, the staff extremely friendly, and their prices are reasonable. After years of searching, I found the perfect spa in NYC. After saying all this will I ever be able to get an appointment? Don't heistate, book your treatement today.

  • Pros: Resonable pricing, best staff
  • Cons: none!

I love this place. The customer service is great. They made me feel so relaxed. My massage with Ping was one of the best. It was a great Birthday gift. I know I will be back soon.

A homey Asian-inspired haven in the midst of midtown.

by Katie Heffernan

This dreamy apartment of a spa treats clients to a simultaneously chic and calming setting. Work is done on the first level behind Asian-style carved wood doors, while the upstairs mezzanine lends itself to quiet reflection with a comfy nail nook, yellow-green lounge and outdoor river rock patio. Spa services from facials to scrubs are offered a la carte, but the signature Journey package is a unique mind-body experience combining Reiki, chakra crystals and personalized skin care.
