Rowdy bar draws collegiates and those who wish they were
by Melanie Berliet
The decor is unremarkable at this bi-level venue, but who needs ambience when you’ve got tequila shots? Standing on the outskirts of NYU territory, the place attracts a large number of students looking to get sloshed. Always boisterous, the scene is infused with the brashness of carefree undergrads mingling while watching the game or bumping and grinding to Top 40 hits played at a piercingly high volume. The proprietors certainly know how to lure their target audience--with frequent drink specials and attractive bartenders (including the occasional “Real World” cast member and other such D-list celeb types).
WAR VET TREATED LIKE BUM
by dakotajoe
What made it unique or special time.... Maybe its because i was singled out as not being a NYU Yuppie Frat boy.. but they forced me out while i was attempting to leave and DENIED and medical request after my shirt was ripped and my back was bleeding. And left me outside for 4 hours until i could speak to a manager who looked liked he just left the food court by the local American Eagle. I had numerous threats from members of their staff and from many of their "security" guards. One in particular said " wait until I get off , then we can do this for reals"
Maybe its just me but that sounds like a trashy place to me. I also forgot to mention i am a Disabled American Veteran who suffers from PTSD and arthritis up and down my back with sporadic bulging disks. At the time had a fractured toe and was using a cane. This same cane was thrown 20 feet into the street along with my bag while they continued to tell me to leave and "get out of their face"
Another patron who claimed to be co owner spent close to an hour poking fun at me, calling me a loser, telling me that "just cause you fought in Iraq, it doesn't mean sh!t in the U.S. This same individual said "the next time i see you, i am going to end your life (cant use the K word) you."
The Town Tavern claims they do not know this individual but i have found his photo on their face book and he was allowed to drink after hours while i waited outside for some type of attention.First they said i was removed for "being to loud". Then when the cops came a 4:30 they stated " i was drinking other people's drinks"
This Bar is shady and i would use caution if you plan to get a drink by yourself their. Alot of patrons or bar locals work with the security and staff. Watch your back If you notice people staring. Its a good chance they might not want you there and might take any actions necessary to get you out of the picture.
All i know is i was a paying customer who was assaulted verbally and physically and denied medical attention. This bar will always be known to me as the bar that doesn't deserve the freedom i fought for. It took away months of therapy of which i was finally starting to feel like a normal citizen and not a freak. Now i am back to square one thinking NO ONE in this city give's a f@#k who is fighting and dying, cause it is not them. NYC let me down big time. I thought the towers fell here so you would have compassion for veterans. Guess not. Thank you The Town Tavern, Thank you for proving the point that the only people who care about the REAL hero's are the hero's themselves.
F@*k you very much
- Pros: bad vibes
- Cons: superficial lacerations to my already arthritic back
Great Place to have a FUNDRAISER
by fundraisergal
A friend and myself hosted a fundraiser for 30+ people. All I had to do was reserve the space and the 2 folks I worked with were very helpful and accomodating on what I was looking for. I didn't have to pay for anything and they provided a large tray of apps, a space for my party, a guest bartender who was a friend and a $300 gift certificate to Town Tavern that I used in the raffle. The managers were attentive and helpful whenever I needed anything. I would recommend having a party/fundraiser/social/happy hour here if your looking for a place!
- Pros: Great Happy Hour!
Awesome Happy Hour Spot
by Xtina1725
The Town Tavern is a great place for happy hour after work. Conveniently located to many trains and right in the heart of Greenwich Village. A nice mixed crowd. The staff is really nice and accommodating and they have great happy hour party deals.
- Pros: Cheap Drinks & Friendly Staff
- Cons: Cheesey Posters of Girls Selling Drinks
Wonderfully-hosted work happy hour
by jbro96
Town Tavern hosted a work happy hour for myself and about 12 of my colleagues. They got us wristbands right away and took us upstairs to a nice space that was not at all crowded. The bartenders were attentive and it was great for mingling. The staff set up tables for beer pong and we started a tournament! Not your typical work happy hour...it was a blast. Definitely recommended.
- Pros: Not too crowded, good service
- Cons: None
Great Fundraising Spot
by lidavis
We held a fundraiser here on a Friday night and had a great time. Their fundraiser deal is fantastic, they reserved a space large enough for out party and were great in communicating with us before & during the event. They let us pick the amount of money donated at the door & then our guests got reduced drink prices! They also donate trays of appetizers and provide raffle tickets to raffle off an open bar worth $300. They played good dance music and everyone had an awesome time. Thanks town tavern for helping make our fundraiser a huge success!
- Pros: large space upstairs, helpful staff, raffle tickets, food
Happy Hour - Strong to Very Strong
by fikdawg
Town Tavern does happy hour right! They hooked up my work with an organized happy hour so I didnt have to worry about having enough space. Usually good drink specials and even when no specials they are not overpriced like the rest of Manhattan.
- Pros: Specials, Atmosphere, Friendly Staff, Location
- Cons: Food
Great for having Birthday Parties!
by musicbebe
I planned a bday party for my friend at TownTaven, and besides the pre-planning of the event, the actually event went extremely smoothly. The staff had bracelets for our party once we came in so that our party could get drink specials, we had an area just for our party, had balloons for the party, and were even surprised with champagne for the bday girl! I would definitely recommend this for any bday party with a large group!
- Pros: Taken care of by staff, drink specials for bdays
- Cons: pre-planning the event
Great Venue for Fundraiser / Private Party!
by AmandaD09
A friend and I recently hosted a fundraising event at Town Tavern which turned out to be a really good time. We had the upstairs to ourselves and they had tables all set-up for us to play beirut and flip cup. We chose the 3-hour open bar package (which came with an awesome platter of appetizers) and it was definitely the way to go. The staff was super friendly and Jessica made all of the planning a breeze. If you?re looking to plan a private party or a fundraiser, this is the place to go. There?s plenty of room to mingle/dance/hang-out which not only helped to make the event a big success, but allowed us to all have a great time as well!
Great for a birthday party
by adbsyr
I had my birthday party at Town Tavern and it was a great time for all. We chose the $35 open bar package that included beers and mixed drinks, although there are a bunch of other options, some of which include food and some of which include private space. There was a really good crowd there but it was open enough so that we could actually move around and talk to each other and there was never an issue getting drinks at the bar. Jessica was very helpful in planning the event and even found me once I was there and made sure that everything was going well. Highly recommended for small to medium size parties and other events - we will definitely be back.
