Amazing Color!

by sexystef

I have tried several places in NY for the color. This is the only place where I keep going back. The color is exactly as you want it. Anna always listens to you very carefully and the results will be exactly what you wanted. I also tried Reinaldo, perfect color as well. I like this place very much, they have always been very professional and very polite. I tried the haircut as well, it always comes better when they do the styling rather than when I do it at home, but I guess that is why you pay for the styling!! (and this is why I held back the fifth star...). You will be in a great mood when you come out.

Avoid this place

by petatki

Yes, I bought a package from the pretty boy in Union Square and I wasn't conned but I do regret it.

You get exactly what you pay for if you don't agree to an upsell.

The upsell: The "image consultant" tried to convince me for 20 mins to color my hair. Once she understood that I wasn't interested (I had to repeat myself 7 times), she turned into a very rude person. And treated me horribly...

The hair wash: My hair wash was the best part - probably because there is nothing can really go wrong with that - although it took all of 4 mins. No neck massage included.

-My hair cut took about 9 mins. (The hair cut was ok - though shorter than I wanted it to be.)

-The blowdry took around 5-7 mins.

I was livid - and when I asked the very pretty stylist why it took her only 7 mins to blowdry my hair (it looks better when I do it and when I get it done professionally it always looks AMAZING) - she politely asked me to take my bag off from her station so that she could serve other clients. (The salon was NOT busy - and her next Client came around a half hour later.)

What's more, they were shooting a video on premise that day - and every 10 mins, all the stylists were asked to turn off their machines and be quiet. My stylist even took a break of a couple minutes in the middle of my hair cut to join the ad - without even asking me if it was ok.

Ultimately - I expressed my disappointment to the manager - he "fixed" the blowdry for me - but only after I mentioned that I would write a review online rather than in their plastic suggestion box.

Dreadful! Is all I have to say. I will go back and get the manicure/facial and whatever else remains on my package because I paid $60 for it - but I will NEVER go back again to pay for their service.

(The silver lining though was that my friend looked pretty amazing after her cut/dry - so maybe it was just a bad hair day for me.)

Love this place

by Allejandra27

I just completed the all the services in a package I bought from Cabellos, and I couldn't be happier with the results. This place has got it all; a friendly, attentive staff, clean up to date equipment and skilled stylists. I received a haircut here a few months ago and the stylist did exactly what I asked him to, just remove the dead part of my (overprocessed!) hair without messing up the length. The spa services I just got were great as well. I reccomend this place to anyone who enjoys getting treated well and not having to wait forever for appointments!

  • Pros: practically everything!

........Like the Plague

by ginabeanaseena

Ok, so if you bought the package from the pretty boy at Union Square, don't feel bad. My Review title is a bit exaggerrated, however, be aware that as a recent customer, I really think some of these reviews are doctored.

Alright, I bought the package. Was told by the kid at Union Square to make the appointment with Reinaldo who is "the best and has celeb clients bla bla bla." So I called and made the appoinment WITH Reinaldo. I get there and they sit me down in the salon chair and this girl starts playing with my hair and says, "so what'll be today?" HUH WHAT?! I was like, first of all, YOU'RE not Reinaldo...So she goes to the front and chit chats with the other girls...They give me all these odd explanations of how the person that made my appt didn't know any better because Reinaldo doesn't do promo cuts and that the person who answered the phone was just a hairdresser filling in for the regular receptionist. I made a big fuss of it (as any person should have) and finally Reinaldo himself came over, shook my hand, and told me he'd take care o me. He did and he did a pretty good job. I was still turned off by the way my appointment was set up. Like another reviewer said, it's just an average salon, nothing "exclusive." So then I went again for the manicure part of my package and massage. The massage was pretty good, the manicure is bad news! I could have done it at home wayy better. I didn't even know it was possible to do a crappy job on a manicure when it's done by a manicurist. WOW. Anyway, if you can get Reinaldo to cut your hair, he'll do a good job an that part is worth it. The rest...Meh...I usually don't buy into promo stuff but that kid got me. So anyway, like I say, don't feel bad if you did buy the package but know that I personally don't think it's the greatest deal out there. At the end of the day, I thought to myself, if they were really good, they wouldn't need to have some kid pawn off packages at Union Sations? I am not right?

  • Pros: if you can get reinaldo to cut your hair, do it
  • Cons: you may not get reinaldo even though they give you an appointment with him and manicure is no good

Don't buy the package deal, because it's not really $60

by melstar1

This place sucked. I paid the $60 for the package deal that they sell in Union Square. I read the package before and understood that there was a one time $15 SERVICE FEE (I guess it's not cheap to buy scissors these days), but didn't realize that the guest I brought would have to pay it too. Basically the $60 for the package went up to $90 automatically. I got the "mini facial" which I could have done myself. No extractions unless I paid an extra $45. I could use extractions now, considering I broke out completely immediately following the facial. Nobody offered me or my guest wine...or water...or a place to hang coats or put belongings. I still have to use the rest of my package, but am really weary about it. Not a good deal.

Not worth it

by les2006

Pretty mediocre salon. The staff are friendly but unprofessional...I got the impression they weren't well-trained. Got the package deal in Union Square. Figured that it would be worth getting a massage, facial, hair cut, etc for $60. Haven't done hair yet, but the massage was horrible and the facial is only a "mini facial" -- no extractions, just a couple masks. Not worth it, not recommended.

  • Pros: You get free wine...which you need after this place
  • Cons: Even the cheap package is a bad value

utterly average

by anonymess

I bought one of those packages from someone in Union Square, and I recently went to Cabello's (aka CHS, it seems?) for a wash, cut, & blowdry. They're trying to market themselves as "upscale," but they're really just a more-polite alternative to Dramatics. I've received some great haircuts in NYC, but this isn't one of them--I just got a very standard cut with long layers which I'm pretty sure actually classifies as "The Rachel." She didn't section it out to cut it, just the ol' pull and snip I'd say it took no more than 10 minutes for Anna to be done with my haircut. The blowdry was good on the sides and ends but I had tons of hair sticking straight up on the top and she did nothing to keep my hair from falling straight in my face. So if you're tired on the shifty pricing policies at Dramatics, this might be a good alternative. But if you're looking for an amazing haircut, look elsewhere.

  • Pros: quick, no sales pressure
  • Cons: very basic skill & service level of stylists, nothing special

Love this place

by Happiness101

I've been to Cabellos Hair Salon a few times, and I have to say it's one of my favorite salons. It's located in a beautiful space, and the staff is wonderful. While I've only had my hair done by Reinaldo (who is extremely talented+fun to be around), I've also seen some very nice cuts/ color on people who have been with other stylists at CHS. And it's a great value. You will pay much less here than at other upscale NYC hair places, which leaves you with some extra cash to go for a massage or a very nice dinner afterwards.

  • Pros: great cuts and color, joyful atmosphere, good value
