NOT Good!!
by marisaaa
We have all heard of the restaurant Alexandra. People rave and brag about the food. Let me tell you, the food was not up to my expectations for this restaurant. I ordered a steak entree, and did not feel well the next day. I asked for the steak medium rare, but was served with it simply red. I decided to eat it nonetheless.
The service was however really good. However, the main thing that should be concentrated on here is the FOOD!
Tasty Food

What really makes this restaurant is the atmosphere, decor and the amazing service. It truly is a very classy restaurant and very inviting. The food is pretty good, too.Their oyster could use a little improvement but the salmon I had there was excellent and it was on top of the corn and tomato concoction that would make anyone's mouth melt. The touchino was quite good. I'd say the low point of my visit there was the calamari.
All in all a great place if you want to hang out with a couple of friends or go on a fun date.
- Pros: food,ambiance
THE WORST
by wvlocal3
by far the worst service in the village! waitress doesnt care if you caught on fire she would ignore you... after waiting 40 minutes for my dinner she tried to take away my plate with half of the meal still on it, mentioning that she needed the table. THERE WAS NO ONE WAITING. won't ever go back. the food was ok, too expensive.
At first glance appealing, but below the surface a very cold establishment.

Expected a charming brunch but one of the waiters was beyond rude and unaccommodating. We honestly did not feel welcome. While we thought we had found another charming Village brunch hangout spot, in the end we decided we will never patronize this establishment again. Quite a shame.
- Pros: location
- Cons: service, wait staff
great local bistro
by ktobiassen
I've been here a few times and the food has always been great - the salmon is a favorite, and so are the scallops. The service can be uneven, since it seems they hire inexperienced waiters and train them on the job. Overall, it's a wonderful and cozy destination.
- Pros: great food, cozy ambiance
- Cons: lousy beer selection, wines by the glass are pricey
Charming Village Haunt
by ConradP
Living locally Alexandra has become a staple in my restaurant rotation. The food is eclectic and excellent - ranging from a great paella to a tasty burger. The staff have always been helpful in my experience, and the candlelit ambience is just as cozy as could be. Some reviews have been negative - but seem to be attributed to a single bad experience. As someone who frequents the place very often; I can wholeheartedly disagree. Alexandra is excellent.
- Pros: Excellent Cuisine, Cozy Atmosphere, Nice Crowd
Perfect atmosphere for the great food that is served

I cam here with my girlfriend and another couple and we had the best time ever! The food was great and everyone in the place was smiling and helpful. I would love to go back often. My party agreed.
Always fresh and flavorful

I do not live in NY but visit often and always include a visit to Alexandra. I love the food! It is always flavorful and fresh. I have had everything from a great burger to a delicious fresh mahi prepared with top gourmet style. The atmosphere reminds me a a small French Bistro, with friendly but not intrusive service. I for one appreciate that they do not allow strollers or dogs. It would be unsafe for children and dogs to be in this small space with hot food and beverages being served
- Pros: food tastes delicious
- Cons: cash only
Nastiest Staff Ever
by dpezza02
This is by far the worst serive I have ever encountered in the usually charming West Village. Not only was I told that they would not pour coffee over ice for me (why not?), I was reprimanded for going across the street and buying an iced coffee. I was told that, "Alexandra does not allow outside beverages." Perhaps they should, as they were out of diet coke, completely ignored our second drink order and would not do something as simple as bring me a glass of ice and cup of coffee. Not to mention that the entrees came out in two groups, about ten minutes apart (and were average, at best). The waiter must have known he was not getting a tip, because he ADDED 20% to our bill for a party of four. Needless to say, with all the charming places in the West Village, it would be a shame to waste your time here.
- Pros: Ambience, Location
- Cons: NASTY Staff, Bad Service, No Requests Accepted
Not for families and pet owners
by lmanyc
9/9: We live in the neighborhood, actually across the street, and used to frequent for average to pretty good food and nice wine list...but as per the owners just this past week they no longer allow strollers or dogs at the outer area for eating for brunch, lunch or dinner. The West Village is all about families and pets! My suggestion: Alexandra can move to another hood! I'll never go back!
- Pros: neighborhood charm
- Cons: cash only
