What a wonderful & lovely place

by susan remensby

After a long & hard week in town, I took off for a couple days. I ended up wandering around until I saw this little door on 9th Ave,just after my walk in Central Park.

As soon as I came in,this nice young man welcomed me with a wonderful smile making me feel like home right away.He offered me to try one of their wines meanwhile waiting for a table. The wine list offered a large selection for any tastes.

After a few minutes he came back with a glass of wine, one of their Malbecs. It was delightful to sip while I was waiting to be seated, discovering all the tapas they had wondering already what I would have. All looked so delicious!

As soon as I got on my table everybody took care of me recommending me the best they thought I could enjoy with I wished to have that night.

From cheeses,to baba ganoush & wines to inspire my orders,I couldn't find a better place to enjoy my weekend in the city.

Wonderful customer service, wonderful people for a lovely time, unique food. What would anyone ask for more!!!

If anyone wants to enjoy a cozy & nice place to spend a great night, enjoying the wide & well chosen selection they have,I would recommend this place as one of the bests in the city. And I've been around for years.

It is my new, best stop off point for my trips to NYC!

Poor customer service

by parksungwon

We made a reservation for 6 people at 8pm on Saturday but when we showed up, they told us that we didn't have a booking. That could happen to any place so we would have been happy if they tried to handle the situation in a way that was pleasant and could work or both parties. Instead, they simply showed us their reservation book where our name was missing and told us that we'd have to wait like everyone else. We were excited to try out the food but their customer service forced us out on the street hungry.

Great Wine selection Very Reasonably Priced

by sarass

We're a family of 5 from Boston in town for a week. From all the restaurants we tried on this trip Kashkaval was by far our best choice. We loved the cosy and warm atmosphere (sort of European), the wines that the waitress suggested to us, the starters and salads but most of all the incredible choice of fondus. We never saw such a variety any where else.

We'll surely return to Kashkaval and will refer all our friends to it.

  • Pros: amazing fondus, generous portions, interesting selection
  • Cons: don't take reservations for less than 6 people

The Best Mediterranean Restaurant in NYC!!!!!!

by JosephineRoy

What a fantastic evening we had at Kashkaval last week. We were a party of 6 and every dish we ordered to the table was absolutely delicious!

2 of us ordered different fondus, one "kashkaval" and the other the "classic". Both were lovely and the portions are extremely generous.

It's unusual that all 6 of us enjoyed a specific restaurant without reservations.

Go and have a great night out.

  • Pros: Delicious salads, dips, and ambiance
  • Cons: Can get a little noisy

Raw Chicken Served and no reaction from mgmt

by SaturdayNight

Don't get their chicken kebabs, some pieces were undercooked and some were overcooked to the point of being dry. The management's reaction to the undercooked chicken was that "the piece is too thick" rather than we are sorry and let us take it off of your check. I would not recommend to go to this place because of a possibility of getting sick and poor service.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Raw chicken served, Poor service

tasty turkey meatballs. no mustard in the mustard chicken. poor service

by viliusvongotiken

This was my second time here. Such a wonderful experience the first time. But tonight was quite the opposite. Started off with Sauvignon Blanc by the glass that tasted of a Chardonnay. Had to wave the server down to ask if it was SB. She stated it was a Chilean SB. Never offered to show us the bottle or explain/question further. We ordered the meatballs (very flavorful) and the mustard chicken. There was no flavor in the mustard chicken other than tasting like plain grilled chicken. Server never came by to ask how our meal was, so I had to flag her down to ask if there was supposed to be any sauce because we couldn't taste the mustard. We were told the dijon mustard was brushed on prior to grilling and she then walked away. Never saw the server again until we asked for the check. I know the server has no control over the quality of the food, but it was the way it was handled that ruined our experience at Kashkaval.

  • Pros: turkey meatballs, ambience
  • Cons: poor service. mustard chicken with no mustard flavor

Great Food, Great Atmosphere

by postnobills

I'd read a lot of the other reviews on this site about Kashkaval, and I was going there fully expecting for a long wait, extremely rude staff, and not the greatest experience. Upon actually going, however, my boyfriend and I discovered that the staff was nice, accommodating, and did not make our experience a bad one. While the servers weren't overly talkative or friendly, they attended to our every need. We walked in and there was a wait for a table - so we sat at the wine bar and got a glass of wine. As soon as we saw people leaving from the back, we got one of the server's attention, and he happily seated us. Shortly thereafter, we received our tapas and cheddar ale fondue - both EXCELLENT. Our wine was amazing as well, and not too highly priced for the imported variety. I highly recommend the tzatziki with the tapas. All in all, it was an AMAZING meal, at not too high a price. I would recommend skipping the dessert fondue, though. It was pricey for what it was and wasn't nearly as impressive as everything else - it seemed like the kind of thing you could make at home with a bag of chocolate chips and some chopped up apple.

  • Pros: excellent food, great atmosphere, perfect date place
  • Cons: dessert fondue is disappointing

hidden gem

by JaimesG

Great place for a date. There's also a larger table in the back that seats 6 comfortably. Been there several times and only had 1 bad experience where the service was poor and the fondue came cold. Highly recommend the kashkaval and cheddar ale fondue.

Great food, bitchy waitress

by michinko

I love the food. Everything tastes yummy. It's too bad the Asian waitress has to be rude. I've been there four times and each time she's been nasty to us! I've heard the same from others. Food is great but needs new server.

  • Pros: Great food
  • Cons: Asian server

Awesome wine selection, great service and exquisite fondue!

by georgelevy

My wife and I went to Kashkaval looking to grab a glass of wine... Little did we know that this small, hardly noticeable hole-in-the-wall looking place would be such a gem.

The food selection was spectacular and all the ingredients were of the finest quality. With a wine selection that surpasses most fine restaurants and a level of service that makes you feel like the world revolves around you - dining at this place is an experience you need to have if you are ever in the Big Apple.

  • Pros: Amazing wine selection, great food, awesome service
  • Cons: Limited seating availability
