This place is cool. I stumbled upon it with a few buddies last week. Cool atmosphere and vibe. The people there were a cool mix of locals and serious cigar smokers. The space has a speakeasy feel. Small, but only enough to keep the wrong clientele out. Find me at the bar every night.
Pros: good soundtrack, people, can smoke (cigars), still cool
Cons: need to get there early to get a seat...

I spent last Sunday there with a friend. The music was great, the staff was very nice, and we spent 5 hours there. We enjoyed the company of the staff and other customers. Great conversation, great atmosphere and great cigars.
Pros: Great vibe, great cigars
Cons: Can get crowded.

i love this place were else can you order beer/wine and smoke cigars in new york.(i just wish they could sell cognacs' brandys)....this place is a hidden treasury, I just hope it does not go away....this totalitarian govt has made a cigar lovers' life a nightmare..im surprised it has lasted this long with bloomberg still steering this ship.
Pros: cigars and booze
Cons: no hard liquor

Not sure where the previous reviewer got that information, but I have been to this lounge twice in the past week to enjoy a smoke. I have been to a bunch of different cigar bars in the city, and I haven't felt more at home than at this one. BYOB and great cigar selection, what else could you ask for?
Pros: Good conversation, boutique selection, relaxing atmosphere
Cons: none

Unfortunately this spot has been affected by the smoking ban law and no longer offers the luxury of smoking a cigar indoors. You can buy the cigar but you cannot smoke it inside.

This is the place where my colleagues and I go when we want to smoke a good cigar among some great people. Never have the staff nor the clientele made us feel unwelcome or beneath them.
Pros: Exclusive Cigars, Great Service, Friendly Environment
Cons: None

Velvet Cigar is what I call "shoe shopping for men." The different selection of cigars to choose from due in fact excite a patron. I just so happen to stumble into this place and amaze that a cigar shop can exist. The best part is their own signature blends which are remarkable that you can only get from Velvet. The environment makes you feel comfortable to be in that even their own customers make you feel welcome. Even their wine and port list are impeccable. The only thing you need is a steak to go with that!!!
Pros: Port & Wine & Cigars
Cons: Parking

If I could have a room in my house like this bar, I would be the happiest man alive. This place is laid-back but still pretty fun... you have some guys watching whatever game is on t.v., others talking it up, and a few just kicked back and reading the paper or a book. Everyone gets along with each other. The cigars are excellant...i'm a big fan of their robusto cigar or sometimes the hemingway cigar. They have cappucinos, beer, port, wine, chocolate... On game days everyone is drinking beer, but on a sunday afternoon you'll see half the bar is drinking a cappucino. This is definetely one of those special NY places. I'd recommend it to anyone.. well maybe not anyone... I'd only recommend to those people I like...

Kind of like Cheers in that "Everybody Knows Your Name" way, Velvet is a great place to unwind and chat it up with some of the greatest characters the East Village has to offer. Small and cozy, this lounge exudes charm and appeal through it's high quality hand-rolled Dominican cigars, an excellent beer, wine, and port menu, a "chill" vibe, and of course, it's fun-loving bubbly staff (who can also sell their product in a most knowledgeable way). If you haven't yet, follow your nose down 7th street and pop in for what I promise will be, if anything, an interesting and unforgettable evening.
Pros: great staff, quality cigars, an all-around good time
