Trendy Restaurant

by amydams

I took a friend here for his birthday and had a lovely experience! We went on a Fri night so the place was busy. Atmosphere is trendy and charming without being pretentious or over done. The dim lighting and decor add a nice touch. Service was good but not great. I felt like they could have showed a bit more attention for the prices. But overall the food really was great! I highly recommend trying it for yourself :)

  • Pros: food,
  • Cons: service

Amazing wine! Amazing food!

by elsabean52

Very intimate setting (read: very small!), but cozy and great decor. I went with my mom and boyfriend and we enjoyed the atomosphere, the really special wine list, and the food was delicious! I keep dreaming about the gnocci/lamb dish I had. Sooo good! I highly recommend this restaurant. Oh, and the prices are reasonable as well.

  • Pros: Great atomosphere, wine and food
  • Cons: A bit too small/tight

quaint place..good expereince

by trexx102

On our most recent trip to NYC my wife and i stopped in Aromas for a late lunch. It was a warm day and we had walked quite a few blocks so the water and the rose and white wines were very enjoyable. I had veal meatballs in a red suace that was excellent. The wife had artichoke parmesan which she continues to rave about. These were small dishes which was what we were looking for and really hot the spot. Rose the bar waitress was attentive and provided us with a couple of other dining establishment that we tried before the weekend was complete. We plan to return for the Sunday brunch on our next visit!

Chef Ramsey! Please Help!

by JJJ007

I cannot understand how this restaurant could be both fantastic and terrible at the same time. It is really a hit-or-miss experience.

Examples:

Great Service, attentive staff, .....but lacking knowledge of the menu and wines

Fantastic and innovative menu (the taste menu a great bargain, pasta dishes amazing),...but one of my salmon dishes came out 30 minutes late, the vegetables over fried, and the salmon grilled on the outside, frozen (yes frozen, not raw) inside. This dish should not have left the kitchen!!!

Bottom Line: Please, please, please be more consistent or I may have to call in Chef Ramsey to this establishment. Has lots of potential, but....

  • Pros: The Food....when they get it right
  • Cons: Not Consistent Food Preparation and Service

This is why I love NYC

by blave

I have been to this restaurant a few times. The first was with a large group of friends where we sat in the private anals of the dining space they have downstairs in this remote location through some very tight walls. At first I was taken aback trying to maneuver through the passageways, but a private oasis opened up upon our arrival that ended in an exceptional meal of bucatini pasta. The most recent excursion was a Sunday brunch, which IMHO, is probably the best kept secret in NYC. I've been to all the "really good" brunch places and this one bl0ws them all away. The service was impeccable, the food was outstanding, and as the clouds opened up outside the owner even gave us a spare umbrella to use to walk outside with.

I rarely write reviews, but felt compelled to do this one because of the incredible service and food we experienced that day. I ordered the two eggs (poached), pulled pork and crispy hash brown plate. The poached eggs were done perfectly, slightly cooked with a warm runny center. The has browns were perfectly seasoned and no extra salt or pepper was needed. The pulled pork was some of the best I've had this side of the NYC BBQ block party. If you love New York and love simple ingredients prepared at its most exceptional manner, you owe it to yourself to check this place out!

  • Pros: Serivce, Food, Ambience, what more could you want?
  • Cons: Could be a bit cozy for some, but for me that's why I love it!

Good Enough!

by jfisher76

great 'neighborhood' italian place. by neighborhood, i mean one of those old-school ny charming type places which seem to be dying out in manhattan. the owners (a husband/wife team i think?) are really sweet and also put a lot of love into this place. great care is chosen with the wine list and while the wines are a bit pricey seem to be an upscale option if you are into that sort of thing. i always go for the sunday night dinner $25 3course italian feast. just went this past sunday, tomato-garlic soup, delicious pasta dish, creme brulee desert yummm.

Warm, elegant treasure of a place!

by Kaye34

I arranged a dinner at Aroma for 10 colleagues who traveled in from Europe and the night was an absolute pleasure! The atmosphere is beautifully rustic, warm and elegant. Service was attentive, gracious and friendly. The food was exquisite. I heard praises all around me at the table with each bite taken. The wait went out of their way to take photographs for us, standing on top of chairs to make sure everyone was in. The evening was so smooth and my guests were truly satisfied.

I highly recommend this warm, elegant treasure of a place!

  • Pros: Hospitable, warm, exquisite
  • Cons: A tight fit, yet perfect for close family and/ or friend gatherings and a special date

Wonderful birthday celebration

by ryoung101

It was exactly as we had planned and so much more! The food as well as the wines were absolutely fabulous. All of my guests were so impressed that a few have already called asking when we can return. The room was cozy, intimate, and spacious enough for everyone to move around and enjoy themselves. It was truly an amazing event and a perfect way to celebrate an important 30th birthday. I will certainly be back again soon.
