Decent tapas

The tapas are decent, but you'd go here more for the scene. Young people, cocktails flowing. The Sangria is very weak so I wouldn't waste your time on this.

New Years 2009!

I love this place!! Everytime I come here I have the best time with my friends. It's such a great place to unwind and let loose! I was here for New Years last year and got my tickets through JoonBug and they hooked it up!! I'm definitely coming back again this New Years and getting tickets from JoonBug again!

Good For Dinner...

I came here for a late dinner one Saturday night and was happily satisfied with the quality of the food and service. We ordered the Chopped Romaine Salad , salad was also very fresh and we had the Prime New York Shell Steak, it was cooked well.

We closed out the restaurant and never felt rushed to leave. A very relaxing evening overall filled with good food.I would recomend to anyone.

mediocre at best

went around midnight last night (two ruggedly handsome guys, no girls), and granted it was pretty crowded outside, the bouncer (~6'4", heavy-set, AA) had no problem letting us in for $20 each. it was pretty packed inside, but the guy: girl ratio was 3:1 (not surprising), and the busted girl: cute girl ratio was roughly 4:1. i would have rather taken that $20 and balled out at the mcdonald's down the street.

great place

this place is great..the food is very good and surprisingly not overpriced for manhattan standards, the waitresses and bartenders are really hot and really friendly and the dj's are always great. fun chill place for afterwork drinks, dinner with a group, and late night dancing...will be back often and highly recommend it!

staff attitude might be the worst in the city

since I live around the corner, barna is often at least a consideration. The straw that broke the camel's back though was when on my birthday (last sept) myself and a few girls/guys walked up around 9pm and there was no - read it, zero- line, not even anyone loitering outside smoking. We were told that to get in we'd probably have to get bottles since it was going to be so packed. Being a lazy/full from dinner (and generally well-monied) group, we sucked it up and figured for a bday we'd get at least 2 bottles of goose/etc (which is a guaranteed $700 for zero effort for them). The lady at the door went inside, came back 5 minutes later and told us that she wouldn't be able to get us in. The sheer confusion at their audacity - remember there wasn't ANYONE there, quite literally - was just mind-f&cking-boggling! I've been treated sh!tty at places all over the city but this was just like WTF, are you f'ing serious???? Suffice to say I have not been to barna since, although I've been convinced by friends who go there once a month or two that the talent/eye candy there is pretty impressive, and slightly (marginally) less pretentious than @ the 'hot' places in the meat packing/chelsea/soho/etc.

• Pros: Nice place, generally theres some good eye candy
• Cons: Mind-bogglingly-audacious door staff

More of a "scene" than eatery

The food was awful. Over priced. Bad service (maybe my server was new?). We ordered tapas, and I tried a little bit of everything. It was all bland and nothing special. I could have done better myself. It was as though they added garlic and butter to everything to make it taste OK. Definitely a good place to go with a lot of people. Certainly a good place to go if you are just going to get drunk at dinner and not remember your meal. This is my first review on citysearch, and I felt compelled to give a piece of my mind about Barna.
