Good cookies, bad service

by mcjays199

The cookies are delicious. It's the service that needs help. A couple of times I have walked in but was ignored for several minutes. One time I was told it was very busy and they'd be with me in a minute but there was no one else in the store.

  • Pros: Delicious cookies
  • Cons: Bad service

average product and service

by jeneepha

I live a couple blocks from Milk and Cookies, and I must say, they do a very good chocolate chip cookie when they haven't been sitting out all day. Service can be a bit slack.. they once actually ran out of milk, so not only were they unable to serve a simple glass of milk with cookies, they couldn't make any of the milk/coffee drinks they have on offer. Granted, there was only one girl working the counter, but if that was me, I would have closed the store for the 3 minutes it would take me to run to the corner bodega to grab a couple gallons. Another time, I ordered 2 ice cream sandwiches to go, and the girl gave them to me on plates. When I asked if I could get them in bags, she just gave me the bags and I had to pack them at the counter myself while she watched me get melted ice cream all over my fingers. Maybe these cookies are affecting brain cell count. Overall, if you're in the neighborhood, try to stop in. If you're not, don't bother making a pilgrimage.

  • Pros: good, home made cookies, bars and ice cream sandwiches
  • Cons: unbelievably inept service

Decent little place.. Glad I gave it a second chance.

by DumpyBumpy

I went to M&C on St Patty's day for the first time. The dark chocolate toffee cookie I ordered was hard and I can count how many chocolate chips is in that cookie (5 chips?). I was disappointed. Maybe because it was 11pm at night, the cookies had been sitting there for the whole day... But the rice crispy is still fresh and home-made that I decided to give it another chance. Went again in 2 days, I made the right choice this time: chocolate chip cookies and double chocolate. They are way better. They are soft and filled with lots of chocolate chips!!! Took some friends there yesterday. Tried 6 different cookies. Not all of them are amazing... some (cinnamon, chocolate mint, chocolate toffee, white chocolate macadamian) are not good. But chocolate chips cookies and double chocolate are great. We had their organic milk too - YUM!!! I recommend their chocolate chips cookies, double chocolate cookies, and rice crispy.

I also agree with the comment below that the decor is not that sweet and cozy.. something is missing. And now that I'm reading other reviews... I wish I knew this place BEFORE the change in ownership - agree that cookies are not always fresh and chewy and warm, agree that cookies are NOT bursted with chocolate chips. Need to continue my cookie-hunt!!

  • Pros: Chocolate chip cookies, Double chocolate cookies, Long hours!!!
  • Cons: Dark chocolate chip cookies with toffee

no longer great - not even good anymore

by truereview

new owners have destroyed this gem. the previous interior was adorable. it looks like a cheesy and cheap deli now. while the recipes were passed along from the previous owners, i think they neglected to give all the details as the cookies just arent the same. furhtermore and really most important is that the sweet ambiance is gone.

  • Pros: cookies are just okay now
  • Cons: just not the same west village gem. there have to be other places.

AMAZING COOKIES AMAZING SHOP

by jackbauerrules

I just finished reading some of the reviews for the adorably delicious Milk & Cookies. I have to say - I'm totally confused! Milk & Cookies has completely perked up the block. The owner clearly has a love of cookies and of serving them to people. I absolutely love going there and get a real kick out of the down home feeling. I mean where else can you get a cookie - a terrific one at that and a smile - in the middle of the city. The spot is adorable - and I personally LOVE the paint job. My only wish is that I lived on the block so I could eat there EVERY day.

Keep up the good work Milk & Cookies - don't let these negative nellies get you down!!

  • Pros: UM FRESH BAKED COOKIES
  • Cons: not being able to get there as often as I'd like!

C is for Cookie, but A+ is for Milk and Cookies

by suesam

Hey this place is great.

I had 3 cookies. (should have stopped at 2 but couldn't help myself). I highly recommend the chocolate chip, but apparently you can custom order cookies too.

I loved that my friends and I could hang out and chat in the cafe space. The decor was simple, but inviting. It had a bunch of blue tiled tables. and I think there was a counter with stools too. There were alot of people coming into the bakery, but I didn't feel crowded - one ot the things about NYC that can really get you down. Everything was super clean the spacious.

Service was great, the counter person was really knowledgeable about all the cookies! Even though there was a line, we didn't have to wait long, either.

  • Pros: delicious cookies, inviting cafe
  • Cons: a lot of patrons

That's the way the cookie crumbles!!!!!

by tsnyc1

Having gone back to Milk and Cookies Bakery, I just love their new decor, its so clean and open. Who knew the place was THIS big? :-) Old, dusty curtains- be gone!

The cookies are better than ever and the overall quality of products is so improved. (Love the new baskets!)There are no longer employees standing outside smoking or on the phone (when they should be inside taking care of customers, that always bothered me.) The whole new staff is professional and knows how to wait on all customers.

So, go back and give it a try- but only if hot fresh cookies and Ronnybrook farm milk are your thing. YUM!

Milk and Cookies Bakery

by nuyawka1625

I am disgusted with the "transformation" of this quaint little bakery in our neighborhood. The new owner is rude to her employees--INFRONT of customers and while standing there, didn't even acknowledge us--the customers. The poor girls behind the counter are obviously working very hard and the owner looks like a ravaging beast bossing them around. The "renovations" are stagnant and unwelcoming. The recipes seem so much different and are no longer the delicious, soft cookies we all once loved. I am so disappointed in this little place. No longer is it the welcoming little neighborhood bakery we once had. I agree with the previous review in that I, too, once knew this little place before the new owner came and tore it all apart.

  • Pros: The neighborhood
  • Cons: The new owner

New Owner = Temper Tantrums and Awful Product

by lt7224

I WAS a regular customer at this quaint little cookie shop...I thoroughly enjoyed the cookies, the staff, and the owners, Marc and Jen. Since selling the bakery to a godzilla-like woman last month, things have all gone to hell there. I walked in one evening a week or so ago, and watched the new owner screaming at her employees (in front of customers), I watched her throwing things around the bakery, huffing, puffing, and in general, behaving like a 2 year old child. When the poor girl behind the counter finally could help me, I bit into a HARD and VERY DRY cookie...nothing like what Jen and the old crew used to produce. And, what happened to all the smiling M&C employees? Walking into this bakery now feels like walking into the middle of a funeral. Sad employees, and a screaming boss...

I won't be going in there any time soon..and I'd encourage you all not to waste your money on cookies that taste like cardboard.

  • Pros: Being able to visit the place before it was sold.
  • Cons: New owner, stale product.

New Owner - The Worst Cookies Ever - Big Loss to Cookie Lovers and to the West Village

by gwenthomas10014

Don?t be fooled by previous rave reviews! Unquestionably the worst cookies ever! I learned the hard way! With the departure of its original owners last month - Jennifer and Marc Limotte - went a charming West Village favorite! Gone are its signature cookies -- warm and chewy and bursting with ?ingredients.? In its place are hard, dry cookies. Even the ambience has suffered! In place of warm 'tomato'-colored walls and decor reminiscent of colonial New York, you will find blue walls (that clash with the bakery logo) and a web site under construction. It would be GREAT if the new owner could produce these famous signature cookies in time for my Holiday Gift Baskets! I am placing my bets somewhere else this holiday season!!!

  • Pros: The name - Milk and Cookies Bakery
  • Cons: Hard, flavorless cookies
