Not giving them business

by jabrams24

There should be a lower rating than "eh." Last week, at 8.5 months pregnant, I quickly had to find a bathroom. No one was working at the door or was behind the bar, so I walked into this place and went to the bathroom, fully prepared to buy a drink or something to make up for not asking to use the bathroom. When I locked the door, I heard a loud banging on the door and when I got out, the waiter or "owner" started yelling at me and asked me repeatedly, very loudly "WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM!!" AND cornered me so I couldn't leave. I almost had a panic-attack because he literally was trapping me, and clearly this is not a good thing almost at full term. So, I just asked him to get out of my way, and he wouldn't until I got a little louder, which is really really not good at almost full term.

So, if I were you, I wouldn't patronize a business that screams at extremely pregnant women who are clearly in need of a toilet. I would've bought a drink or otherwise patronized the business but instead put my headphones on and walked out (with him screaming at me as I walked out). Really bad for business and really bad for my pregnancy. Don't worry, Boyd, I won't ever go in your restaurant again and neither will my friends.

Great Food, Great Service!

by Charli Lee

Whenever I am a looking for some great Thai food, I always go to Boyd Thai. As a student at NYU, the restaurant is extremely convenient for my friends and I since it is right on campus (by Washington Square Park) and their prices fit within our range.

The staff is extremely nice and accommodating --which is important if you would like to/need to modify a dish to your taste. For instance, last time I was there, I was really in the mood for a classic Thai dish they didn't have on their menu ("Pad Kra Pow Moo" -stir-fried minced basil pork with chillies and spices and a sunny side up egg over rice). Even though it wasn't on their menu, they were completely open to making it for me and they did an excellent job. The only dish I can say isn't one of New York's best is their Pad Thai. It's good, but I would go with their Udon Stir-fry, any of their Curries, or Green Curry Fried Rice. I also really enjoy their mixed drinks so I recommend trying a cocktail or two.

So whether you are a student running on budget or someone looking for a restaurant with ambiance and romance, Boyd Thai is a great place to be. It's especially lovely to go there during the summer since they have patio like doors on the outside of the restaurant.

And if you are looking for catering, I've catered from Boyd Thai before for large events and parties for more than 100 people and I can say that I have not found any other Thai restaurant in New York that is willing to work with customer needs as much as this place. The owner even came to my event once to help prepare our food trays to ensure its presentation and taste was on par! Can't wait to go back and order from them again!

Authentic Thai Food!!

by thaifoodlover89

Boy Thai is great. I'm Thai and I grew up in Bangkok, so I'm always looking for food that reminds me of home and they do it really well here. Their menu is comprehensive (they even have Thai desserts!) and the staff is really great - they even let me order stuff that wasn't on their menu. Authentic Thai food made by real Thai people for once! What more could you ask for?!

Really bad food

by tara becker

We went here spontaneously and sat at the bar. We order shrimp pad thai. it came out in one minute, and smelled and tasted very fishy as though it had been sitting with the shrimp in it for days. There was also a loose shrimp tail in it. The noodles tasted like glue. Seriously the worst pad thai ever. They didn't charge us for it. We paid for our drinks and left. You can go here for a drink, but I would not risk the food poisoning by testing their kitchen.

  • Pros: Seemed like a good option, cute bar with interesting drinks
  • Cons: Terrible food that we thought would make us sick

Great Thai

by Cin1982

Boyd Thai is, for my money, the best Thai restaurant in New York. It features the richer flavored, sweet, city-style cuisine, as opposed to the lighter and more savory country fare one might find at other Thai places. Ergo, if one likes the city style, they'll like Boyd. If one prefers the country style, it may prove underwhelming.

Service was great! The environment was small, cozy, with dimmed lights. And food was delicious!! I got the chicken pad thai, and my lovey dovey got the beef thai fried rice...simply amazing!

Great Thai at an even better price. Loved it!

by lloydcj

For a $5 corkage fee, you can bring wine and drink it there. We went for the early bird special which costs $11-13 for a salad, soup, summer roll and an entree. For the starters, we all really liked the salad that came with the special. It wasn?t mind blowing or anything but it was very good. Everyone loved the summer roll with the sweet dipping sauce. The Tom Yum soup was also great. Two of us got it and both loved it. It?s spicy but not too spicy. I was expecting spicier after reading other reviews. My girlfriend and her friend got the shrimp dumpling and liked it a lot.

For the entree, my girlfriend got the Garlic Sauce w/ steamed veggies and a side of coconut rice. We all agreed that was the best dish of the four. The Spicy Noodles came in second place and was very very good. Third place went to my Pad Thai which was just okay Pad Thai. It certainly wasn?t bad but it wasn?t much better than anywhere else. Last place, which was still good went to the Pad Woosen. Next time I?ll try out some of the curry dishes because they?re supposed to be good.

For dessert, we split the Baked Pear with Lychee Fruit Sorbet and thought it was great. We actually finished the bottle of wine and I bought another glass from the restaurant for $2.50. $2.50!! It was table wine and wasn?t anything special but $2.50 for a glass of wine in this city is a steal.

The service was amazing! We got there at 6:15 on a Wednesday (early bird lasts until 7), and sadly for the restaurant, we were the only ones there. The waiter was extremely friendly and attentive. I tipped him 25%. This is a value restaurant, not flashy. For great decor, go elsewhere. For a really good meal at an AMAZING price, go here. The place started to fill up aound 7:15 but for the life of me, I can?t understand why it was empty when we got there during the special hours. For all four of us with wine, dessert, 4 early bird specials, a side of rice and a 25% tip, it came out to $78 for a great meal. I'll be back!

  • Pros: Everything
  • Cons: Decor was average but for this value, who cares?

Reliable Thai food

by Avery718

The service is friendly, the food is consistently flavorful, and there's a nice variety of dishes.

Con: There's only one cramped bathroom

  • Pros: The spicy flavorful dishes, the aesthetic of the restaurant, the waitstaff, Chef Boyd
  • Cons: The size is cramped
