Stolen
by Allin123
I was at Local relatively recently with some friends after work for drinks. We actually had a good time, up until the point where I looked down (within 5 feet of where I was standing) for my bag so I could leave, and it was gone. After much searching and talking to the manager (remember this - who said they rarely have any thefts there), I resigned myself to the fact that someone walked off with it.
Amazingly, I heard two very similar stories within the last few weeks. A co-worker told me that a friend of his was drinking at the bar upstairs, and placed his bag on on the floor against the bar and it went missing as well. After doing his own frantic search, it turned up that it was behind the bar, but there were some items missing.
Finally, another friend of mine was there recently as well and she was inside the bar, and had her bag on a chair next to her, only to have it disappear as well. This time, no luck in finding it though.
Without getting into full-on details on each story and what exactly was stolen, I find it ironic that the bar doesn't have many thefts - according to the manager - but that 3 people had their stuff stolen there within a month's time with similar circumstances.
For this reason, I nor any of my friends will return to this bar. Whether it be some random people who come in and steal people's stuff, or whether there's more to the story, who knows. Not going back.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Things seem to go missing
Trashy Bartenders
by atd102
I went there with my boyfriend before a Ranger playoff game, I walked away to use the bathroom and the female bartender was all up on him, but when she saw me coming back she backed off. Needless to say she slipped him her number and we are now broken up.
Girls watch your guys, there are lots of eye candy in this place. For the record, she wasn't all that hot, matter of fact they all look pretty used up. Oh and the serviced sucked!
- Pros: After work crowd
- Cons: Trashy Bartenders
Good Spot
by jtnyc17
Great afterwork spot...drinks are good and the bartenders are hot - especially a short-haired brunette - anyone know her? However, management is just okay...could be much better, but the atmosphere is good and the help is great.
Overpriced and TERRIBLE service
by jojoms629
I work at a restaurant right down the street from Local and always thoght it looked like a nice place to grab a few drinks on a beautiful sunny evening (not too many rooftops bars in midtown). Come to find out it is a complete rip off with lazy waitresses. My friend and I sat up on the roof (which was, admittedly, lovely) and waited a few minutes to be greeted by our server. She came over, took our drink order and came back 5 minutes later with a draft of Blue Moon that was only 3/4 full and one of their "specialty drinks". The "special" martini I had was delicious and quite strong but definilty not woth the 15 dollars I was charged for it (it was Stoli for christ's sake!). We got the hummus and pita plate which was very tasty. However, after ordering our snack and first round of drinks we didn't see our waitress for a good half hour to forty five minutes (correction, we saw her, made eye contact, tried to get her attention and were ignored). It was not even busy! As a waitress, I understand that sometimes you get slammed and accidently neglect a table because you are running your butt off. No, she was just sauntering around in her minidress and stilletos trying to look hot while not doing her job. We did see the busboys a lot. They were very eager to clear our drinks and our waters while we were still drinking them (nearly half full). We get our check and the martinis were overpriced at 15 bucks(however understandable as they were house specialties), but 8 dollars for a COORS LIGHT? People can say "well, it's midtown" all they want, but I work at a place down the block that caters to the same corporate crowd and coors light is $5.50. So, we hardly saw the waitress all night but then she gives us the check and hovers over our table like a vulture waiting for her tip. We only left a 15 percent tip (normally leave 25-30) and would have left considerably less, but both being waitress, fear karmic retribution. I would be fired for the kind of service we received.
- Pros: roof top
- Cons: Very poor service, way over-priced drinks
Great Roof, Great Service
by nabrubus
Love this place for their fantastic roof. Good place to stop in for a drink before a show at MSG or Hammerstein. Gets packed after work, so try and get their early if you want to snag a seat.
- Pros: Roof Bar, Happy Hour
- Cons: Midtown Prices
He swung first!!
by porrnstr26
I will admit I used to be an avid fan of local west. Not b/c of the great service (one chick refused to serve me b/c I called her "Sweet T*Ts", but i thought coming from a girl that would be a compliment) or the great food, or good drinks (I only drink Heiny Bottles it's not too hard to mess up) but simply bc the location to MSG. I would stumble out of a game and always end up there. Last night, after the Rangers Islanders game was no different. Why a bar located directly across from MSG would not put security on for a rangers islanders game I have no idea!!! The place was packed w/ islanders fans who were starting fights w/ every Rangers fan that was in there. Long story short...Some 6'2" "man" Thought it was acceptable to swing at me a 5'4" chick. And while all this ruckus was going on...Noone stopped serving beer! No manager available to talk to me, no bouncer on duty. So i was left to fend for myself. So yes I did p*nch him, but only b/c he tried to h!t me first. Apparently it's every man for themselves in Local.
- Pros: Heineken Bottles
- Cons: Lack of security
Looks can be deceiving...

I recently popped into Local for some drinks and appetizers before heading over to the Knicks game. I thought I was going to really impress my beautiful date with what was a really nice looking place. Well, it actually is a really nice place and she was impressed. That was until we had some unexpected company join us at our table. Right as we were halfway through our beers, wings and nachos, a tiny, let's say non-human, made himself cozy right on our table. Ordinarily I wouldn't mind, but I was on a hot date and this four legged "thing" wasn't exactly invited. I kindly asked it lo leave, i.e. I threw every piece of artillery I could find in its general direction and it escaped my wrath. I know what you're thinking: this guy is sooo smooth. Well, stop laughing because luckily for me, I am pretty smooth. So I was able to divert attention away from this unfortunate experience and get back some semblance of what started as a promising evening. We could no longer eat, but we still drank our beers, albeit at a much quicker rate. But just as the waitress threw down the check, our little friend made his second appearance of the night. And all hell broke loose when it made an offensive remark that was directed at me. Ok, well I made that last part up, he was actually quite cordial, but the rest of this is true. There was no counter attack this time; we just paid the bill and ran. Not ever, EVER, in 8+ years of drinking, have I ever had to leave a purchased beer unfinished. That is unacceptable and downright disgusting. As for our unexpected companion...also disgusting. This was truly one of the mostuncomfortable bar experiences I've ever had. I was going to give this bar a 2 rating, but since my date hasn't returned any of my calls since, I am downgrading that to a 1 for my pain and suffering. But hey, I'm an optimist so If you're ever looking to NOT get with someone, this is the place to go to.
- Pros: serves beer
- Cons: cleanliness issues
Decent place, but music is too loud for happy hour...please turn music down...oh and happy hour ends at 6pm
by i_know_best
this place is ok. not a bad place to hang out after work if you're in the area. but, who wants to have music that you can't talk over with your friends, especially after work? just turn it down please!
what's with a happy hour that starts at 4pm and ends at 6pm? really..who gets out at 4...i want that job! Please push it up to 7pm...be reasonable!
and the food menu could use a few more items. honestly...i'll probably go back there, but only since i work in the area and there aren't many other choices.
nice people & great heated patio
by flanny83
i just hosted an afterwork party at Local West and b/c of the moderate weather the manager Frank suggested we might want to use the heated outdoor patio as an alternative to their lounge, what a great idea, the change of scenery in december was pretty cool, nice change of pace, i'm becoming a fan of global warming! the staff was so pleasant and the whole party went off without a hitch, it was low-key but high energy , thanks to Local West for making me look like a planning superstar!
- Pros: heated patio, helpful staff, so close to Penn Station
- Cons: a bit crowded
Great for sports and awesome rooftop deck in the spring/summer/fall
by rodri91083
Great place to go for drinks after work and to watch games!
The bartenders are are always friendly, full of energy, and most of them are very hot!
I have been there many times and always have had a good time and usually a good crowd of sports fans and professionals. Bouncers keep the riff raff out and scene is great!
The crowd and view on the roof is the best in the area!
PS - The sliders are the delicious :)
- Pros: sports, rooftop, bartenders
- Cons: manhattan prices, but as expected
