Had a good meeting

by willyksmoke at Citysearch

I met a client here for an hour long meeting on a Monday night at around 7pm. A few other tables were occupied. All in all, it was a great venue.

Try those pretzels, they are good.

  • Pros: Good Pretzels
  • Cons: Temp inside was a little warm

Is this place dead?

by NYGal at Citysearch

Went to the bouley bakery today for brunch (the tiny upstairs place that is) and found it filthy, smelly, empty and completely dead. The larger place across the street as well as the new restaurant were not welcoming: the place across the street was a buffet (cheap!) and the new restaurant didn't have a host or anybody to welcome us when I opened the door. At that point I got annoyed and left for La Pain. Oy Vey. I guess this is another recession casualty. Will miss this place!

Bouley is Gross

by EJDM at Citysearch

Went to the new bakery in the old restaurant space on a Saturday afternoon. I ordered the unassuming cream of corn soup and a sweet onion and potato flat bread. My girlfriend ordered the miso soup and the chicken meatballs. Whilst it is impossible to tell for sure whether the damage done to my digestive system was a fault of Mr. Bouley, I will say that shortly there after my stomach seemed to protest, quite violently, the meal I had just consumed. I spent the rest of the day chewing on Maalox. As I like the chalky-flavor of Maalox even less than I liked the flat bread, it would have been advisable to a cue my girlfriend who hardly touched her soup...she said it was terrible. Adding to insult to my injury, even though its a serve-yourself restaurant, the what little service there is, is reminiscent of Mr. Bouley's restaurants: the lines were slow and the people behind the counter inattentive.

As someone who lives in the area, I don't think Bouley's establishments would thrive anywhere else but in Tribeca. Only the same brand-conscious well-to-do hipsters that brought you the $2500 sq/ft "artist loft" would pay for that experience.

Yummy takeout holiday food

by villager37 at Citysearch

I am a member of Bouley's mailing list, and learned that Bouley Bakery & Market offers holiday meals that patrons can pick up and eat at home. I ordered a duck dish with honey, sides of mushrooms and string bean salad, and finally a pumpkin pie and a flourless chocolate cake. Although my duck was undercooked (nothing a bit of microwaving before serving couldn't solve), the meal was great. Everything was tasty, and the chocolate cake was absolutely addictive. Thanks to Bouley for taking the pressure off this Christmas!

Terrible Brunch

by creelawson at Citysearch

We found Bouley Upstairs to be:

1)VERY slow

2)bad food (runny eggs)

3)bad attitude ("you should have asked about your food")

4)very expensive for a terrible experience.

We complained and they said "we're sorry"

That's it.

Wouldn't go back.

  • Pros: nice setting
  • Cons: bad food & service

The taste of Bouley's croissants is exactly, Ooooooo My!!!

by sylvania99 at Citysearch

I love their french breads and pastries. Especially, croissants are the best that I have ever had. Very crusty and never greasy. Of course it is very pricey but it is reasonable because the quality of the bread is exactly perfect 10. I can say, it is more than the gorgeous gourmet pastries at Paul in Paris which is one of the best bakeries in Paris.

  • Pros: Authentic French Pastries, Wonderful Area
  • Cons: A bit over price

Bouley Upstairs is Great

by cheesypoof at Citysearch

We love the Upstairs restaurant, over Bouley Market. You get the fine, fresh flavors of Big Bouley across the street, in a fun, informal setting and a fraction of the price. It is a small, cozy restaurant, with an open kitchen and a tiny sushi bar. It is fun to sit near the kitchen and watch everything being prepared. In warm months, you can also sit outside on the sidewalk downstairs and do some Tribeca people-watching. Harvey Keitel claimed an outside table once when we were there. Great sushi and sake menu, in addition to American offerings. Serving size varies greatly, so ask your server. The lamb chop is huge! Many other things are quite small, though. My favorite is the halibut in a delicate sauce. It is perfectly done, fine fish and the sauce compliments it beautifully. The desserts are lovely - if they have the strawberry thing when you go - get it! If none of the desserts on the menu appeal to you, you can always stop in the market on your way out and get one of the fantastic eclairs. Might as well pick up some fine meats from the butcher in the basement while you are there - or one of the great rotisserie chickens. It's all good.

Great Food, Great Value

by ignatiusjreilly at Citysearch

As a Tribeca resident, I end up eating here at least once a month. The food is fantastic and varied, and the atmosphere is always superb. I highly recommend the Bouley Burger (a very substantial meal!), as well as the spicy tuna and the dragon roll.

Best part: two people can have a decent sized meal with a drink or two for less than $50.

  • Pros: Food, service etc
  • Cons: A bit small!

Great Vibe

by pol at Citysearch

Walking by this place last night, I couldn't help but notice the good vibe coming from both the outdoor talbes and the small dinning room upstairs. A lot of good energy. All the tables upstairs were taken, so we decided to eat at the sushi bar. It's actually really entertaining to watch not only the sushi chefs, but also the chef behind the stove at work. The kitchen is actually in the small dining room. Chef was cool, interacting with patrons. Food was delicious. Such an eclectic menu. The menu is small, but you still feel like there is so much to choose from - salads, fish, chicken, sushi, steak (sirlon was good)... and the Bouley Burger was GREAT too.

  • Pros: good vibe, delicious food
  • Cons: small space, no reservations
