"OH NO!" Terrible Service
by aimeepav
I came looking for a good sushi lunch and a unique atmosphere, and was apalled at the most terrible service I've ever had, in any city, anywhere. At first we (a group of four) were greeted by a very rude hostess who looked as if she was suffering a severe hangover. The waiter seemed pleasant until, upon ordering, he threatened that if we did not order a large amount of (overpriced) food as a group, that it was likely we would not receive our food at the same time and that one of us could be finished with our meal before another was even served, because there were 500 people upstairs for brunch. Really?! The entire Gansevoort doesn't even hold that many guests! I was completely embarassed by bringing my out-of-town guests here. What a sham. If you are in the area and want sushi without the 'tude, go grab some takeout at The Lobster Place in Chelsea Market...
- Pros: decor
- Cons: service
great food

well worth a visit, food very good, bar small, rely on waitress service on the terrace far easier. better japanese restuarants but very convient for west village
- Pros: rock shrimp tempura to go
Trendy and chic

I've been here once for drinks only. I had a nice time - there was music and it was a pretty relaxed atmopshere. Drinks were expensive, but that is expected in a place like that. I can't think of anything negative to say.
Great Place, High Standards
by Valentinaa
The doorman is doing his job. theres no reason this place should be "dissed" by people who cannot dress up for dinner. If you were an owner of a resturant club, you would open your eyes to the fact, good looking people attract more good looking people... The place is great , (if it is your scene) if not, dont try making it your scene.. try going to a fastfood resturant. you will mostlikely be able to get in there :)
Good times!

To the contrary of many users who have posted anything regarding Ono Garden. I had a magnificent time on Saturday night with my girlfriends, The staff was great, and the doorman was very polite and gorgeous :)!!!! I will definitely be back before the summers over... Yeeeee-haw
Awful

Come here to experience NY at its worst and ruin your evening. You've never seen more crass, rude help (especially the creep at the door).
Not numero Ono
by lola12345
From the point of a spectator standing outside of the walls, the bar seemed to be jumping. The DJ was playing good songs and the walls provided mystery. However, once inside and the mystery ceased, the bar lacked intensity and allure.
- Pros: Who is behind the walls?
- Cons: Oz isn't all it's cracked up to be
Do NOT have your birthday party here!!! Consider yourself warned!
by bdaypatrol
As most New Yorkers have probably dealt with, finding the perfect birthday venue is like trying to get cross-town during rush hour in a cab! Needless to say, my best friend did a lot of research before deciding upon Garden of Ono. She ultimately picked the place because, although she enjoys many of NY's hot spots, after a personal meeting with the manager beforehand, she was assured that ALL of her friends would have no problem getting in. The manager's exact words were, and this is verbatim, "An entire football team of guys will get in."
I'm a bit confused, because not only could an entire football team of guys not get in...but one guy could not, nor could a group of attractive girls! The bouncer was so rude, I have never experienced anything like this in my life! It was a sharp contradiction to what the manager had promised, and completely undermined my friend's reason for having her party there-- she didn't want to be stressed about getting her friends in. Not only did she have to stand at the door for the first hour to try and get her friends in, the bouncer was extremely rude, and at times verbally abusive! I am just completely disgusted by the rude treatment!
Luckily, we didn't let it ruin our night, and made our way to the bar asap! The drinks are also extremely watered down, but we remedied that by taking shots! I will never return to Garden of Ono again. Although a cool atmosphere, the way we were treated was unforgivable, especially after what we were promised. There are plenty of other fun venues with a great outdoor area, where bouncers aren't disgustingly rude-- AVOID this place!
- Pros: Great atmosphere-- if you can get in and you like watered down drinks
- Cons: RUDE bouncers, nowhere to dance
Obnoxious and Unclassy

I went last night for a good friends party, and I have never been more disgusted by the quality of service both at the door and by the management. Not only were they extremely elitist about who they let in (I was told that many people in our party did not "fit in," and when I asked why, I was told that it was obvious just by "looking at them"), but also the bar is not worth the hype.
We had spend over $1000 dollars on dinner in the restaurant, and were still treated in a way that I wouldn't treat my worst enemy. However, we ended up having a good night after we left.
In conclusion, I recommend NEVER going to Ono, both because of the service and personnel, and the fact that it is not nearly all it's cracked up to be. You'll have more fun at a dive bar around the corner.
One of my FAVS in Manhattan, Good drinks and Chic atmosphere

Garden of Ono is one of the trendiest spots in new york city. The dining area is amazingly decorated with smart lighting design and the outside garden is magnificent to start a night out. The place is decorated in a modern chic japanese style and even the bathroom is spotless. Small plates of sushi are available and the place is wisely decorated so that no weather can bother new yorkers who wish to start out a trendy+chill night at this upscale spot. It is not too crowded unlike many clubs/bars and you can enjoy a conversation with people without yelling in their ears. I barely leave comments on bars and clubs or even restaurants but this is a two thumbs up, basically I would call it the "IT" place. Im not too sure why people have negative views on Ono, but once you are in, the bouncers and doormen and the rest of the staff (esp the bartenders) are very polite and nice.
I would highly recommend it to everyone, IF you can get in that is. The doormen are very strict and you need to be smart about how to get in. Please dress up, the guy managers are all in suits and the female managers all look like models and walk around in their Louboutins. This is not the place to wear your jeans with a tank top.
