Excellent place Gusto

by CSMobileUser

We went there on a Saturday night, and all courses were excellent. Before they could get our table ready they sat use down at the bar and had a wonderful time with Two very handsome Bartenders. We sat down at the Table and had a wonderful dinner. The Malffati with spinach and ricotta cheese was delicious, the Veal Chop was cooked perfectly, and the Banana tort was a nice way to finish. The waiter recommended to us a modestly-priced bottle of wine that turned out to be excellent I even wrote down the name of the bottle witch is Valdomo good wine. The atmosphere is fun and attractive, and the service was attentive and helpful. definitely recommend this place. it was and will remain an extremely great experience.

Ridiculously small portions

by billychoctaw

RIDICULOUSLY SMALL PORTIONS! Taste-wise, Gusto is nothing to sneeze at. But in a city known for great Italian food, don't buy into the hype of this place. My family and I are not big eaters, and we all left dinner hungry. Chef Anne Burrell's star has lost a lot of luster in my mind, and I was a big fan in large part because she is a well-tested Batali disciple. There's no way Batali would approve of Gusto, so neither do I.

  • Pros: Taste - the flavors are true to great Italian tradition
  • Cons: tiny portions, limited meat entrees

Interesting place, not great but good

by maranop

Not your typcial Italian place with heaping portions of the usual entrees. It's an interesting twist though some do not work out (rasins in meatballs?). I found the staff extremely friendly and prompt. Stop for a drink at the bar - good bartenders and a wide selection. Prices overall were a little high but not outside the normal.

don't bother

by studioa

Due to the fact that this establishment has no idea how to encourage customers to be loyal I have to give the restaurant a 0 out of 10, I will never be back.

A few months ago I was one of a party of eight. I chose to give my coat to the hostess who offered to take it to their coat check. Unfortunately at the end of the evening my coat could not be found. When I went to the "coat check" (also known as the hall that leads to the kitchen), it was discovered (after some time) that my coat was in the LAUNDRY BASKET! The hostess/manager apologized and hand wrote a gift certificate to please come back. Tonight that gift certificate was refused. Needless to say it was for a mere $60, our bill was $164. The waiter told us that manager no longer worked there and the management said that this was just a piece of paper that could have been written by anyone. The management?s decision and behavior was shameful. Apparently I should be expecting a call from the head office tomorrow to resolve this matter and may receive a new gift certificate.

Bad!

by slava1o

This resturant was terrible. Appetizers were blend, had no flavor, sardines were very fishy and not fresh. Main course of meatballs was very small, and consisted of 5 tiny meatballs. This is definetely a place to avoid, by far the worst resturant I have been to in a long time.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Bad tasting food, not worth the trouble

Special-ed service

by emmylou35

I am a regular at Giorgione and had high hopes for Gusto - even though the chef has left and gone to Morandi. Anyway the food was good - nice pasta, good steaks, great fritto misti - but the service left a lot to be desired. Our waiter (who used to work at Giorgione 508 and always got my sandwich order wrong there - I should have known!) was the worst. Knew diddly about the food, had to be prompted what each individual special was, constantly forgot stuff, sold us on a tangerine granita which turned out to be a sorbet (he replied "Yeah I know" when we pointed this out to him). But the weirdest thing was throughout all of this he just kept inanely grinning at us. It was like being served by Johnny from The Shining. The food WAS good however bad service aside, he acoustics are terrible. We could not hear our dinner guests and we were a small table of 4. The interior is so dark you may fall over the first step like our 7 month pregnant friend almost did. Oh and the table next to us had a brawl on the sidewalk. Classy! Don't think we'll return to Gusto although I'm still a fan of Giorgione. Giorgione Deluca - sort your staff out!

  • Pros: Food is decent
  • Cons: Terrible acoustics, too dark interior, waiter like Johnny from The Shining

Great food, wine, and service

by eveningout

We went there on a Saturday night, and all courses were excellent. The asparagus with mascarpone cheese was delicious, the scallops were cooked perfectly, and the tartufo was a nice way to finish. The waiter recommended to us a modestly-priced bottle of wine that turned out to be excellent. The atmosphere is fun and attractive, and the service was attentive and helpful. It's one of those tables-way-too-close-together situations, but after the wine settles in, you pretty much forget about that. I definitely recommend this place.

  • Pros: Food, ambience, service
  • Cons: Tables very close together, not the biggest portions
