I have been to Il Bastardo twice and both times I enjoyed the meal. The staff is friendly and they know when to check in and when to back off. The food is great for the money. The decor is pretty cool. It's a chelsea spot so you'll see a lot of gay lovers gazing adoringly across the tables at one another -- so cute. It's a very true New York place too. You wont' see any flyover state people here (unless they came to live in NY). Overall the menu has tons of choices. I LOVE the grilled calamari appetizer and I suggest ordering two appetizers and one meal and then sharing - it's enough and you get to sample everything with room for drinks or dessert. Also there is a back room lounge area so this would be a greeat place for a large group.
Pros: great food, relaxed vibe, friendly staff
Cons: a bit loud
