User Reviews for Exotic Dance Central - Pole Dancing Studio In New York City

I've been taking pole dancing classes now at EDC for almost 4 months. I love it! Friendly staff and instructors, and they work with you and your abilities. I know how some one stated that the first course was very beginner, but it helps you get the basics down. After that class, it's been a real workout each class. Between spinning, climbing and dancing, you definitely get a great workout and leave the class tired but feeling great. I'd recommend EDC to anyone you wants to excel in pole or exotic dance, or just wants to have fun, burn some calories and build confidence!

Pros: Great instructors

I was surprised to see some of the comments made about EDC on here. I told my friend how much fun I was having taking the classes and when she was doing some research about the school she came across this website. She called me and told me to look at the comments because they were contradicting what I was telling her. I have been going to EDC for a few months now and I feel it was the best decision I made. The manager is extremely friendly and the instructors are very knowledgeable on whatever class they are teaching. There are three dance studios, two bathrooms, and a changing room; all of which are clean at all times. I have never had any problems while attending, the schedules are flexible and the school with work with anyone if given enough time. I am now an intermediate student and plan on continuing until I am advanced. This is a great workout and I would recommend EDC to any and everyone.

Pros: location

If I could give it a 0 rating I would! My boyfriend bought a class package (4 weeks/1 class a week) for me for our anniversary and I was elated with this gift; I had a birthday party with a couple of girlfriends the year before with EDC and had a great time and was interested in pole dancing. By the first class, I was completely disappointed and annoyed. First, they made this huge deal about me not being able to attend the classes on the day my bf signed me up for- the day simply was not convenient for me and I wanted to change it. Then they told me I can change it for one day and I had to pay $35 inorder to do that. Secondly, the classes are EXTREMELY beginners. I am a trained classical dancer, so I gave the slow pace of the class the benefit of the doubt for the first class, but the pace of the class still didnt gain momentum. The teacher taught us ONE move per class- wtf! There was no way you could get a work out, unless you are beyond out of shape. On top of that, there aren't enough poles for everyone, so you have to alternate taking turns doing the moves. That cuts your session in half. The instuctor was as enthusiastic as an microeconomics professor. The thing that bugged me the most about this place, they treat you like you are in school. I felt I had my mom breathing down my neck to go to class- one day my grandfather was in the hospital (my first thought was not to call EDC and tell them I couldnt make it to class) but while I was there waiting in the operating room, the teacher called me to scold me for not coming in! and how I was going to get charged for a "make-up" class even though my bf had paid for the package in full......simply put- its a waste of time and your money. I wouldnt recommend this to my worst enemy. This place deserves a big fat F for FAIL!!!!!!!

Pros: location

Cons: where do i start?

Every review in here but one told the honest truth. This is the most unprofessional place I have ever been to. My friend and I took a class to see how it measured up to classes like the other nyc pole schools and we're horrified to see that the teacher whose name has been mentioned by one of the reviewers was like 50lbs overweight and was unable to do anything but instruct us from the floor. She apparently was too heavy to even climb a pole let alone teach us anything hands on. My friend went to the bathroom to change and it’s true, the bathroom IS a really unhygienic hole in the wall housing just a toilet and a sink shared by everyone and anyone, only to see one of the girls who had been in class and the schools owner (see video) doing something unsociable. After class my friend told me that the owner solicited her to offer her services as a ‘promoter’. She said she could find her extra work with paying male private clients so apparently this studio does more than just classes. We’re disgusted. We expected a professional service and got what seems to be a business catering for needs of a different kind and though we will continue to find new classes to explore elsewhere this is one school we will never return to. Girls beware, this place is masquerading as something it’s not and no doubt will soon be under investigation like the rest of the seedy establishments in Manhattan.

Cons: BAthroom, classes, trainers

WELL, first of all I will tell you I was totally disappointed with the first and second location I frequenced. There is no need for me to dwell on the negatives about the old place; just take my word it was not good. However, that had no barring on the Instructor, because she is phenomenal. Realize, I cannot speak on any other instructor but my own, who is Alieesah. But enough of that old location BECAUSE, thank goodness, they are at a new location. The new location at 12 E. 32nd Street is 1000% nicer than the old building they used. Everything is new and inviting. WOW! there are actually three dance rooms now. The atmosphere in private, spacious, and has the perfect ambiance for the type of sensual classes conducted in each room. Mirrors are nicely placed so you can see your progress or areas needing improvement. There are actually TWO bathrooms located within the studio. The poles in all Pole Dance Classrooms are situated to allow for maximum workouts without the potential of colliding with another dancer. Oh, I believe they are also in the process of putting the finishing touches on a healthy snack bar available to students. LOOK, I think the new location is excellent and I highly recommend taking a class. You don't have to take my word for it. Go visit the place for yourselft, I am sure you will more than likely agree. We are always the first to say when something is bad and to pass on the bad news to everyone we know. But when something is good or has improved, we maybe tell one or two people and simply just keep it moving. Way to go EDC. I'm proud of you!

Pros: New Facility, Central Location, $12 parking, Spacious Classrooms, Great Pole and Salsa Instructors

Cons: Have not found any YET at the new location. But if I do I will surely let you know

We attended as a bachelorette party. We enjoyed every second of it. The instructor, Fellany was great. For it to be a beginner class, it was a little more intense than I thought it would be. I would definitely recommend this activity.

Pros: everything

Cons: nothing

If it's something you've always wanted to try, this is a great place to do it. What a great experience! We had a bachelorette party package and our instructor was Madame Teazz. It was a lot of fun and we definitely picked up some great moves! The instructors did a great job breaking things down and boosting our confidence to try the moves they demonstrated. They were professional and fun at the same time. Make sure the girls you go with have high comfort levels with one another because you definitely get close! A once in a lifetime experience filled with memories and laughs that will last a long time! (we were sore the next day and some of the girls had bruising just FYI).

It's a nice try writing reviews for your own company but the problem is that when visitors actually go to take the class they see how it really is. It was supposed to be a pole dance class but turned into a belly dance class. The instructor seemed to not know the difference between the two at all. I don't know where they got her but it was like she was a beginner herself. The studio get's way too hot even with the windows open. There is nowhere to change besides a dirty bathroom shared by the entire floor of the office building which made the girls uncomfortable. There is no proper sound system. It looks basically like the owner rented old office space and put in a pole. The owners are pretty pushy for you to come back even though we told them we weren't impressed. My cousin was disgusted and had her party at another pole dance venue in the Manhattan instead. For $200+ we want the real thing not amateurs.

Pros: Great location

Cons: Terrible makeshift office posing as a studio, dirty mixed bathroom for whole office floors

I threw a Bachelorette Party for my cousin here & everyone (15 girls) had a wonderful time. We left with plenty of innovative moves, funny moments & pictures (no videos), and plenty of laughs. It was such a good time. Learning how to pole dance was intriguing. Our instructore (Teazz) was great. We learned techniques of lap dancing and stripping & it was well worth the money. We got the package with the refreshments & cake (try the strawberry shortcake) which was good since we needed a drink break every so often. It is hot in that room though, that's my only complaint. Also, don't get there earlier than the 30 minutes otherwise your large group will have no were to wait since their waiting area only fits about 5 ppl comfortably. It's a regular dance studio when you get there, but they have a backroom for private parties. You have to try it & you'll become hooked!

Pros: Plenty of Fun for All

Cons: Hot Room, Small Waiting Area, Closes 6pm SHARP

Ladies, I just finished 2 months of classes at EDC, and I am definately sexier than I have ever been. I find myself getting more attention just walking down that street...without platforms, than ever before. I knew that I would like the "exotic" workout because it seemed more fun than regular workouts. However, this does so much more for you. You learn to move and love your body like never before. I took the lapdance and goddess classes and saw not only myself, but my classmates transform. Those heels are MAGICAL. My teacher was awesome, and she had great music. The thing that I like the most was the lack of pretention here. Many are going to get rich off of "striptease workouts", that have celebrity appeal, but EDC will not be like that. I promise, anyof you can go there and feel comfortable and like the sexiest you ever. I will never feel ashamed of my sexuality or my shape again, and if I do, I will just do the moves I learned here in my mirror and be reminded how hot I truly am.

Pros: Instruction, Class Size

Cons: No locker room
