North Indian Food

by LuisGomez

Whenever I get a craving for Indian food, I usually head on over to Copper Chimney. This Indian restaurant specializes in North Indian food. I usually enjoy their mulligatawny/lentil soup, their nan, and fish tika. I usually go for dinner, but I hear lunch is great too!

Extremely pricey. Ridiculously small portions

by Dhruv

Food was alright, actually a bit blend. I ended up ordering a thali which was also blend but wasnt expensive. Others with me ordered ala carte and those portions were way too small, and prices are way too high.

Cant believe someone said best indian food, because that is far from truth. One of the guys serving is very snobby and sort of unwelcoming which makes the whole experience even worse. We did have a great time making fun of the small portions.

New York's best indian Food

by dk1

Some one said it correctly.Copper Chimney is a hidden treasure. The food was great. The service was fantastic and the sanitary grade "A". It could not get any better.

The fact is i like to go to pretty places that are clean and affordable with the right portion sizes , which means you do not end up over eating unlike some restaurants where quantity is of more value than quality and it is ok if you over eat you can still be cheap and skip dinner!!!! Well i do not agree I like my porion sizes not too large .Also i saw that Copper is introducing Lunch Thali on weekend staring from 7.95 pp ..Beautiful and perfect ...Wel Well Well see u at copper..I hate to cook

Nothing special...!

by Manterjanter

There is nothing special abt this restaurant. They are not respectful to customers. There are too many better restaurants around to choose from.

We were told that they do not take credit/debit cards?? what kind of place is that ?? And they lied about some other stuff that City of NY/consumers dept. should get involved in?? Only one way to deal with them....

Spare yourself the horror of Copper Chimney

by manasjha

This was by far our most horrendous restaurant experience. EVER!! It all started with the service being extremely poor. The waiter was completely aloof, we had to call him repeatedly to get some service. Stuff was being thrown on our table and it damn near knocked my glass of water over several times! When asked why the Rasam tasted so bad we were told its supposed to taste like plain red chilli in water!! We were then informed that the kitchen was closing and we better hurry it up; it was 9:30pm then! All this prompted us to dispute the flat 20% gratuity included in the check. The manager started arguing that it was compulsary and threatened to call the cops on us in case we didn't pay the entire 20%!! I wonder if we are legally obliged to pay 20% then why is it added as an after-tax amount!! It gets worse, the owner then started blaming my friend for not moving when the food was being served and screamed that we were too busy talking than observing the service!!! I really don't know what kind of an idiot the owner is. But all this was enough for us to throw a fit and leave the place in heated argument. This place is two-thumbs way down. 28th and Lex has far better Indian restaurants. Please spare yourself the horror that is Copper Chimney.

THE BEST INDIAN RESTAURANT

by atbabu1

I went to Copper Chimney with a group of six people.i think the food was fantastic ,mind blowing,I have eaten at many indian restaurants and Copper Chimney's food stand out.It is perfect. We ordered honey gobi garlic, dahi puri, shrimps, crab cake and chicken 65 as appetizers and all were a hit,The main course chicken chettinad and lamb of two kinds and daal and the very yummy methi malai mutter were superb,Liquid copper was a very yummy cocktail ,Overall the food was fantastic,The service was very attentive ,We also got the beat rasmalai and gulab jamun as complimentary dessert.I would def go again and again.I was also informed that the restaurant has a weekly buffet fot 8.95 all you can eat and had items that were not on the menu,Can't wait to try.A great find in Little india

Bad Food - Not Going there Again

by rvgup

I went to Copper Chimney last night for the first time as one of my friends had recommended it (though I remember his wife told me not to try it!!- should have taken her advice instead).

While the service was polite and I did not have to wait at all, I found the food to be quite bland to be honest. The aloo paranthas were nothing great but the veg biryani was the WORST that I have ever had. It looked like that had used some left over biryani and to make it up they mixed some rice in there- totally below my expectations..When I asked them to fix it, the person initially told me that this is how a veg biryani is supposed to be!! They agreed to do something about it when I persisted. The "new" biryani showed up 5 minutes after I was finished and did not taste too different.

I am not here to trash the place but I want to share my honest advice that you should not go there if you want to have good Indian food. For the price they charge, you are better off going to another nice restaurant (say a Yuva or Chola or a few other arnd 28th street) Seriously, this was very disappointing and not value for money at all. The decor was also just about OK. Wonder why some people have given it a better rating.

This is the first time I have ever written a bad review for a restaurant- you can imagine how unimpressed I am with the place!! Before you take a decision, you must still read other reviews to make up your mind. May be it was a one off thing that does not happen to you but I am not going there again, for sure.

Cheers!

Great Food but pathetic service......................

by IndianCritic

Copper Chimney food stands out to most Indian restaurants i have eaten at especially in the neighborhood it is situated. Intially, my experience was good but once i was seated in an aromatic atmosphere, I felt as if i high end indian restaurant. But unfortunately, my hopes were dashed by the service. I was ready to order the food but as i put my head up to search for a waiter, there was nobody in sight. I thought they were busy so i decieded to wait till someone was is in sight. After 25 minutes, i again put my head up and saw two waitresses, probably one was a hostess who sat us down at the door gigling and chatting up to glory, instead of having a watchful eye on the tables. Then i wave my hand to guy at the back and he respnds to me. The girls were probably just 10 ft away and still didnt notice us. This is "ATROCIOUS SERVICE". For a second i was intending to go talk to the manager but then was mesmerized by their excellent food. My recommendations would be: Gobi honey garlic, lamb saag, goan fish curry and the liquid copper.......... Go to copper chimney for their food but not for their service. hope thos two waitresses will learn what it takes to be in the service industry and not hink of it as a fashion and chatting industry............

  • Pros: Food, Food, Food, Drinks and their atmosphere.........
  • Cons: The two waitressess and their service....

good food, poor service and terrible delivery

by batman10016

the food here is very good, one of the better indian places in the city that are resonable priced. we very much like the lamb chops.

the reason it's a one is that its service isn't great and the delivery is terrible. it takes well over one hour.

Always good and cordial

by NinaBa

Was brought there by a colleague and brought myself quite a number of people ever since- always great. And I am not even a fan of Indian food, yet the atmosphere, friendly service, carefully selected menu, always makes me feel to come there again. Garlic nan is great, cauliflower starter( a full name escapes me)-I would eat that everyday and rice pudding is unforgettable. Best place to bring business associates for lunch, and a date too. Beautiful and simple interior design, moderately quiet for an American restaurant. For a cranky "restaurant manager" that left bad review- the toilet area is really discreet there, unless you stare that direction all the time.

Another plus- BYOB, and a liquor store is just around a corner. Expect to pay "corkage" fee though

And if there is plenty of well dressed Indian customers in large groups- you know it has to be that good.

  • Pros: Best Indian, great value, pleasant ambience
  • Cons: Been there at least 10 times, -none yet.
