Good, but disappointing
by mrshomer3
I went to this restaurant specifically because of the executive chef, Aaron Sanchez. I have seen him judge other chefs on a Food Network show. Based on how he judges, I was expecting exceptional food. It was so-so. The squash blossom appetizer, which was suppposed to be fried, was soggy and bland. The homemade guacamole was excellent and had a bit of a kick to it. We were not offered an option of having the guacamole mild. The scallops appetizer was great and the mint verde salsa made me want to lick the plate. That being said, my friend ordered a lovely-sounding asparagus salad for an appetizer, but there was no asparagus in the salad. The chicken with mole sauce was good and tasted almost homemade. The pepita crusted salmon was overcooked and a bit on the dry side. Overall, it was a bit of a let-down, but I am willing to give it another shot for lunch.
- Pros: Nice open space, good service
- Cons: Food missing from plates, bland appetizer
Dont eat here

What a waste of a dinner . The staff at this place works other jobs while waiting your table, its the only explanantion on how they can disappear for so long.
Delicious Guacamole
by mimic47
Went on a friday night, had no problem being seated right away. We decided to just get appetizers and we were really pleased. The guac was awesome and so were the mini enchiladas and plantains. The fried green tomatoes were the best. We'll definitely be going back to do the same thing all over again.
- Pros: Great tapas
- Cons: none
tops new york city mexican cuisine
by hungry_woman
I just have to say that Centrico has topped the charts for my new york city dining experience. After years of eating mexican, I have finally found a restaurant that exceeds all of my expectations. With a menu that is always changing, I know that I can come back anytime and expect a little change. Our favorites would have to be the fried green tomatoes (I've had them topped with both mushrooms and shrimp) and the seared scallops, which are to die for. My husband and I have also been very impressed by the wine list. It is nice to finally find a restaurant that cares about and diversifies their wine list as much as they care about the menu. There's such an extensive collection from South America and Spain. My personal favorite is the Domini, from Portugal!
In short, don't come expecting burritos and enchiladas or your typical tex\-mex restaurant. This is mexican food that is inspired by ingredients of different regions of Mexico, which have been hand-picked by the chef, Aaron Sanchez.
Service great, authentic, friendly, from the moment you walk in, to the moment you step out.
highly recommend centrico!
- Pros: great food, great service, beautiful restaurant
Bland Food, Good Drinks/Service
by dgbuffa
I took my girlfriend here for her birthday. The guacamole was great, the service was good, and the pomegranate margarita was brisk and flavorful. Quite simply, though, the entrees were extremely uninspired; so bland that I needed a couple beers to wash down the starchy, overcooked tuna tacos with mango "salsa" (essentially, mini-mango cubes). My date got the chicken, which was too spicy and was swimming in chicken juices. The waiter prepared a birthday dessert for the birthday girl, but the cake was cold and the cinnamon didn't really add anything positive to the molten-cake dessert.
Pros: Drinks, Guac', Service
Cons: Bland Food
- Pros: Speciality Drinks, Guacamole, Service
- Cons: Food
great food, lovely drinks and amazing service

One of the best restaurants in new york, as a big fan of Mexican food everybody was telling me: you need to try centrico,so i got together with a group of friends and we went to centrico, a very good looking space in a corner, high ceilings great red and orange lighting and the best music, the people at the door they really know what they are doing, even that they are not servers they where able to answer all my questions about the food and the restaurant while i was waiting at the bar having a drink called "frozen prickly pear caipirinha" that was really refreshing and unique, some of my friends where having margaritas and they loved them, at the table our server with a great knowledge about the menu and the wine list and guided us through a lovely dinner , short ribs, pan seared scallops, fish tacos and duck with a fruity mole amazing, overall centrico is an amazing restaurant the food, drinks, staff , the space and the chef ,they all work together very well to make you feel special..
- Pros: everybody works great together to give you a great experience
Extremely disappointing
by niteowl11
Appetizers and entrees were both a major letdown. Fish tasted like it came from the Hudson and bland as can be. Skirt steak was decent, nothing to write home about. Drinks were average. Service was average, even though the restaurant was empty. Shocked if this place is still open in '08.
- Pros: Nice hostess
- Cons: Read above
Best Birthday Experience
by jmgreview
Last week my wife, some friends and I ate at Centrico. We were pleasantly surprised at the staff from the start. We hadn't been in since the summer. As soon as we got into the restaurant, the host Jesse recognized both me and my wife right away and welcomed us back. As we waited for our friends at the bar. We had an amazing time there with the bartenders Aleeza and Juan they are awesome. My wife and I participated in Tequila tasting while they educated us on different types of tequila made in Mexico. Oscar (GM) is a really cool guy; he accommodated a party of 10 on such short notice for my birthday. As we
walked to our table (round copper top table). The room felt amazing, airy with the smell of food coming from the kitchen, huge windows, good music, low lit red and orange lights that followed an Aztec influenced mural outlining the restaurants top wall. Service was amazing, everyone was knowledgeable of the food. My wife said at one point she felt as if we were getting a geography lesson on Mexico threw Aaron's food. They made us feel like we were at there house instead of a stuffy overcrowded restaurant. Thank you guys for one of the smoothest sailing, enjoyable birthday experience.
- Pros: great staff, great location, worth the trip out
Excellent Nuevo Latino food and an equally great staff

I recently had a very pleasurable experience at Centrico. Chef Aaron Sanchez is very talented and shared his knowledge of the history of the dishes we had with my friend and I. The bar staff is very good - Juan created the Frozen Prickly Pear Capirhina which is delicious. The Jala-Pina is really delicious, its got a good kick and thankfully, wasn't as spicy as I expected. It was really bright and fresh. All of the produce used is local and chef Sanchez builds his menu around what is available seasonally - two added bonuses. Memorable dishes of the night: Scallop ceviche, Wild mushroom & Oaxaca quesadilla (made PERFECTLY), and for dessert: Churros w/ chocolate dipping sauce (rich and sweet but not too sweet) and Chocolate molten cake with corn ice cream (the flavor of this ice cream was a real nice surprise!). All in all, a great delicious night! I look forward to returning to Centrico and trying new dishes.
- Pros: delicious food that is plated very well, ambience - the high ceiling are great, wonderful cocktails and dessert

Ok, I hate to trash someone online, especially since it?s so impersonal, but I get the tuna taco at Centrico all the time, probable more than I?d like to admit to, so I don't know what this jokers talking about?? My wife and I live in the area, service is always great, Oscars (the gm) is a really cool, funny guy and if you do stop by Centrico try the tortilla soup as an app, its f--ken amazing!
- Pros: tuna tacos..hum
