First ate at Nobu in Atlantis Bahamas. Best steak tenderloin i have ever had. Now i eat at this location and almost always get the chef' special. Great food and nice decor.
- Pros: excellent quality
- Cons: expensive, small portions
MORE THAN JUST A JAPANESE RESTAURANT
by pclipper2000
Having been to Nobu 57 many times, I am still surprised by the negative comments written thru other postings.... mixologists are incredible, service spectacular, food outstanding. I dont understand how people can be so foolish to think that an enjoyable evening is dependent solely on the performance of the rest. and their staff. I spend 4-5 hrs with my wife at nobu each time. From start to finish this has been and I'm sure will a continued wonderful experience.. Try going with someone that you truely enjoy-- nobu 57 and their staff will do nothing but compliment the experience....
- Pros: ATMOSPHERE
- Cons: NIGHT HAD TO END
nice midtown offering

if you're coming here for sushi, don't have tunnel vision - they will tell you that it's not their calling card. that being said, both the tuna and salmon sushi were outstanding and the uni (sea urchin) was also surprising if you're into that kind of thing. still, they will encourage you to order a combination of cold and hot dishes beforehand, so we did. the yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno was as good as advertised (be sure and add cilantro to every bite) but the miso cod was a bit sweet for my taste. the soft shell crab appetizer was a nice alternative to the obligatory spider roll. if you saved room for dessert try the PB&J - yes, it's sweet too, but this one's supposed to be!
- Pros: delicate seafood presentation and friendly service
- Cons: sushi menu is limited (not their "signature")
Eh...

for the $150 Omakase where the cheff is supposed to give you his best, the ingredients were average, service was slow, no one asked me how the meal was before just plopping down the check. Not worth the hype. decor is nice. I've eaten at quite a few japanese restaurants and for $150, not worth it. But if you go to Noby 57, order a la carte. The miso cod is good, the squid and now peas dish is good and the sushi is decent.
- Pros: Good Miso Cod
- Cons: Omakase not good
Worth all the hype

Nobu is definately worth all the hype! Wonderful food and EXCELLENT cocktails! A little pricy but it's definately worth the treat every once in awhile. My favorite was the yellowtail and jalapeno sashimi, lobster tacos, and all the sushi rolls. The hostess is a bit snobby, but that's to be expected.
- Pros: Food, cocktails
- Cons: wait time, hostess

The Search Continues...
by sushiquest
I?m from LA, where sushi restaurants are as plentiful as the strip malls, and many sushi places have the best food to offer.
Nobu is a pretty attractive restaurant, but nothing too memorable. Upstairs in the dining room, it?s perfectly dark, if a bit noisy on a Sunday night.
The sushi list at Nobu is pretty short, and they don?t have one of the staples ? Albacore. That alone is a telling sign that Nobu leans more toward hype than substance.
When the sushi arrived (hamachi, a couple of sushi rolls and a few sushi specials), it was quickly apparent that the rice was subpar. Rice should be slightly warm, moist (but not too sticky or gelatinous). Instead, the rice was dry, with a few hard grains. The fish wasn?t memorable. Sushi is supposed to be buttery ? it just melts in your mouth. Not too soft, with some springiness. Nobu?s sushi had none of that texture. It was good to have tried Nobu, but my quest for great sushi continues in NYC. Any suggestions? P.S. Who takes pictures at a restaurant? This is not Applebee?s nor TGIFridays.
- Pros: nice location
- Cons: average food
Not the Greatest but Good
by Cartwright35
You can never say this is a great Japanese restaurant but it is a good restaurant. The food is tasty, the service competent and the atmosphere perfectly fine. Because there are so few good places to meet after work in Midtown, I give Nobu 57 one more star than I think it deserves. Still I do recommend it to people who are looking for a good place to meet friends and colleagues for cocktails and snacks.
Don't Get the Omakase.
by foodprincess
We were there a little over a year ago and loved the food. We ordered the signature dishes which were very good. This past October we went back for the $150 omakase. It was a big mistake. It was a little appalling that one of the dishes was miso soup. The kobe beef was chewy and difficult to bite into not to mention that it was soaking in soy sauce by the time we ate it (I think they brought the dish out BEFORE we were done with our last tasting and so we did not have time to eat it until we were done & therefore it was soaking in the soy sauce for a bit of time). Also, when asked what the dish was that we just had, sometimes we would get these looks like we were bothering the server with unimportant questions, and I actually thought that sometimes the answer this particular server gave us she was not certain about. I figured for $150/person, our questions would not be such a nuisance. To top it off, at some point we were "scolded" for taking a picture. That personally ruined my evening.
Wonderful service

My husband and I made reservations a month in advance and did not have to wait to be seated when we arrived (around 9:30 on a Friday). It was crowded, but the seating still allows for a somewhat quiet experience. Our server was extremely attentive and helpful, making appreciated suggestions. All of our dishes were timed perfectly in terms of when they were served. We ordered the more common NOBU dishes, the jalapeno sashimi tuna, a lobster salad, rock shrimp tempura, miso black cod, and chocolate bento box, and these signature dishes did not disappoint! I had read negative comments on the sushi so I did not order any. All of our dishes were fresh, well presented, and delicious. I had a martini and my husband had two glasses of wine. Yes, it was pricey, but not really different from other meals we had in the city. Many have complained about a "picture policy"-are you kidding me? Who wants to have flashes blinding them in a appropriately dark restaurant. Who needs a picture of dinner. Grow up and realize this isn't your prom.
- Pros: Signature dishes still meet expectations; expertly timed service
