Meat pies by m.a. t. at InsiderPages

The Tuck Shop is a tiny place that features Australian meat pies. I don't have any other experience with Australian cuisine, but these pies are tasty - if a bit heavy. The mainstay seems to be a traditional meat pie, but I always go for the chicken curry which is a bit like Thai food in a crust. The staff are friendly, they serve beer and desserts too. They have a few other items on the menu. This isn't a place for a sit down meal, but good for a satisfying lunch or late night snack.

This a very cute counter service restaurant with friendly employees. Note, theres seating for only a handful of people on stools. I went in a while ago for my first chook sanger (Australian chicken sandwich) and found it tasteless, I dont know if thats how its meant to be. But I was so glad I went back and got a sausage roll. It was absolutely amazing. Its a rare treat when a food really stands out like that. Go get one. Also note, if you're American and have never had vegemite before, you probably shouldnt. It is great that they have Australian beers though.
- Pros: sausage roll, Australian beer, cuteness, friendly service
- Cons: not a lot of seating

I'm a Brit, but I love this Aussie establishment.
Great rolls, pies, salad and the blokes behind the counter are really friendly.
I personaly like to sit outside on the bench and share the grub with my hound.
- Pros: The Grub, Aussie Booze and Treats
- Cons: Small for big groups.

Been several times now and the pies just keep getting better and better. If you've never had a meat pie before this is great example of an Aussie favourite, for those missing a dogs eye and dead horse - one of these pies will send you home. Thanks for making them, and for the friendly atmosphere.
- Pros: Great tasting, friendly service
- Cons: Small space
Try it and you'll be hooked

I'm not a homesick aussie, but fell in love with the world's best comfort food on a trip to melbourne. The Tuck Shop is classic australiana - and the best fun I've had in ages. The experience is great, but it's the pies that make this place what it is. And no idea if the concept of sausage rolls exists in New York - but it does now. Great value, friendly service and tucker to die for.
Fast-food meat pies from Down Under.

In Short
A corrugated metal ceiling and mounted shark give the no-frills interior the feel of a run-down seaside surf shack. Patrons--many of them homesick Aussies--listen to live radio streamed in from Down Under--while waiting for their "tuckers." The pies come stuffed with a soupy mixture of ground beef, chicken or vegetables. Also available are rolls filled with pork and sage or vegetables and a vegemite sandwich. Sweets include a vanilla slice, custard tart and sticky date pudding.
