by rachel16 at Citysearch
Yoga Effects is a yoga studio that focuses on the individual. I've known people to lose weight, repair relationships, and get healthy because of these classes!!
- Pros: Disciplined practice, understanding of anatomy, instructors
- Cons: none!

Unprofessional Owner
by Disappointed25 at Citysearch
I have been to Yoga Effects in the past and found my experience rather normal. I practice yoga frequently and at studios across the city. For my birthday a friend gave me the "Yoga Pass Book", which provides you Guest Passes to various studios around NYC. Last night I brought two friends with me who never did Yoga to this studio. I accidentally forgot my Yoga Pass Book and tried to ask the woman at the front desk if I could pay now and come back the next day with my pass for a refund. The woman said "no" to my request. It was not her response to my request but rather how curt she was about it that surprised me and I figured she could not be the manager or owner as I would assume no owner of any establishment would treat their customers in such a way and figured I'd come back the next day and hope to catch the owner instead. To my surprise today, the same woman was there (the night before she told me she wouldn't be in on Wednesday) and it turns out she is the owner. I politely reiterated my request and she, once again, rudely turned it down. I tried to explain that I respect her studio's policies but was curious as to her rationale of her policy. To my surprise, again, she refused to explain herself. She would only say over and over "I said no and I'm not explaining myself." I don't mind a request being turned down, but what really upsets and disappoints me is that the OWNER of a YOGA studio would be so harsh over something so minor. Why not provide your explanation and, even further, why not just be polite? Do you not want people to come back? And isn't Yoga about being positive? I'm shocked at her behavior and handling of this minor situation and will never go back because that kind of negative energy when practicing Yoga is not good to be around. My teacher was great, and I wish she taught somewhere else. Please think twice before going here if you want good customer service and positive energy when practicing.
- Pros: Good Teacher
- Cons: Terrible enviornment to practice yoga in-very rude owner!

Finally a place where people are nice and normal and the staff is attentive! I've gone to level 2 and 3 classes here (they have 5 levels) and it was amazing. Super challenging, relatively small class size and hands on interaction. They take requests also. The students were friendlly to each other- people will actually smile at you.
Best Yoga on the Eastside!
by noreally at Citysearch
I didn't think I'd find good yoga in Midtown East. But when I was looking for somewhere to practice bright and early before work, I came across Yoga Effects. When they say vigorous vinyasa, they mean it. It's a good thing they have showers because you'll need them. Don't expect to chant or meditate. But do expect really sweet teachers who kick your butt with a smile. I appreciate the fact that there are actual levels unlike other studios who just do the "open level" thing which can mean if you're advanced, you might not be challenged, if you're a beginner, you might be lost. At Yoga Effects, if you go to an advanced class, believe me, it's advanced, and if you go to a beginner class, even though you will sweat, you will do so safely. The studio is very spacious, spartan, and very clean. The owner is professional, yet warm. This yoga center was a pleasant surprise and going there for an early-bird or lunch-time class makes working on the east side of midtown so much more bearable!
- Pros: early morning express classes, lunchtime classes, showers, no dogma
Amazing Yoga Studio
by bohosimple at Citysearch
This is not your typical yoga studio. Yoga Effects is amazing, friendly, and it makes you feel comfortable from the first class you take. It is a powerful vinyasa flow practice that is a great workout while still being fun and energetic. If you are new to yoga, or you don't like the "know-it-all" attitude of other studios, this would be a great change. I practiced here for two years before moving out of New York, and this studio made me love yoga. I HIGHLY recommend this place.
- Pros: Everything
- Cons: Nothing
Great Teachers & Best Teacher Training Classes
by notoboy at Citysearch
Liz, the owner and head instructor at the studio is fantastic. She teaches wonderful classes that push you to the limits, while still following and assisting each of the students in the room.
Yoga Effects has a great group of confidence-inspiring teachers that lead very well thought-out classes/routines that really educate and strengthen the students with careful, individual attention to newcomers and return students alike. It is really a breadth of fresh air in a community that oftentimes ignores newcomers to a studio.
Great studio and great job Liz!!!
- Pros: Individual attention to all; good workouts

I fell in love with yoga and vinyasa the day I walked into Yoga Effects over a year and a half ago. I have tried other studios and types of yoga but the combination of the friendly, encouraging atmosphere of this studio and the physical results I quickly saw had me addicted! Each instructor lends their own personal touch to each class and Liz, the owner is wonderful. Her love for yoga is obvious in and out of class. Yoga Effects has allowed me grow into an advanced practice because this studio offers something for every level.
- Pros: friendly & encouraging enviornment
- Cons: NONE
