Super Shmekerie locu'
by Jilberrr
- Pros: genuine, genuine ,genuine !
Good food but beware of mosquitos
by Roy17
We showed up at Morimoto without reservations and were seated at the lower level. The service was fine and the food and drinks were really nice maybe that's why we did not realize we were getting bitten while dining. ;) Once we got home and the effect of the alcohol started wearing off, we realized that we were itching all over. When we called the restaurant back, they were quite arrogant and insisted that we got bitten somewhere else. But, that's the only place we went to that night and I am damn sure, it was the Morimoto mosquitos that left their mark on us. Beware!
Best Dining Experience Ever
by LEE7
Went here to celebrate my bithday along with 2 other friend's birthdays. We went all out our food was to die for and our waiter taught us the traditional way of eating our chilled noodles. The Waygu steak was unlike anything I have ever had. The pork belly was salty and bad for you but its fine once in a while. We also had the tuna pizza which was good and some crab legs. the dessert was to die for banna ice cream and a pie like crust was soo yummy. Must see and try out the bathroom!
- Pros: Food, Service, Bathrooms
- Cons: NONE
omakase heaven
by misscyl
I lowered my expectations because I've seem to always have a slight bad experience in highend restaurants UNTIL NOW. We went for the tasting menu and were not disappointed. Everything was prepared perfectly and everyhting had a perfect balance. this is not a pretentious place, you know exactly what you are getting and everything was fresh. The service was impeccable - no one ever hovered or rushed us and they paced the dishes perfectly. There was a nice energy about the place. I would definitley come back or recommend to others. The bathroom was also quite interesting.
- Pros: great service, great food and cool ambiance

- Cons: too yummy
Bad Food, bad service!!!!
by moorzic10
So, I made a reservation for 6 people. we came right on time, and had to wait 40 mins for a table which was irritating.. The server was very fake... she couldn't recommend anyhting on the menu.. Anything that we asked her about, was "GREAT"..I mean, come on.. why am I asking you then? The appetizers were ok.. nothing special at all. Not one of the 6 people at my table were wowed with their food.. I got lobster fritters, which sounded great, but were missing somethign.. Sushi rolls were very average.. and duck that I got for my entre, was BAD.. It was so bad that I my jaw started to hurt after I ate a few bits.. the leg was all fat.. pure fat.. and the breast pieces were so raw that it was like chewing gum.. Dessert again was ok.. warm chocolate cake.. was very average.. So, defiantely dont waste your money.....Go to Budhakan down the street instead.
- Pros: it looked funky and modern
- Cons: Everything else
Worth the price but...
by rgmx
First off, yes, it's expensive but it is worth the price only if you don't concentrate on ordering only Sushi.
To drink:
Mornimoto's 5 year aged Sake - pretty good. Honestly, I haven't had that many Sake's in my life but this has been the best. But for $70 it had better be. I felt it was worth it.
For starters:
Spicy Tuna Roll - very good, but I have had similar quality elsewhere for cheaper.
Wagyu Beef Tartar - wow, simply wow. But prepare to see the smallest plate in the entire place. It is tiny. But it is Wagyu beef and that's what you're paying for.
Some Egg Custard with Foie Gras - I looooved this but my girlfriend didn't like it at all. If "Foie Gras Creme Brulee" sounds good to you, order it. You will love it.
Entree:
Something Ocean Trout - Fish that felt like butter. And i don't mean it was covered in butter, it was just perfectly cooked and tasted very good.
Surf and Turf - Got my Wagyu beef rare (I ordered it that way) and it was very good. There was some salad with seafood and that was just terrific.
Desserts:
Warm Chocolate Cake with Popcorn Ice cream - the cake is what you would expect but we got it because of the Popcorn Ice cream and it didn't dissapoint. It's weird to be eating ice cream that tastes like popcorn, but it's a good weird. Very delicious. But savor it, it is tiny.
Coconut Panacatta - Best part of the meal for me. I am a huge fan of Passion Fruit and this dessert was a must get for me. One of the bowls will have the actual coconut panacatta topped with a thin layer of passion fruit jelly. Simply amazing. The other bowl is passion fruit noodles (seriously) with Basil ice cream. i kid you not. It sounds weird. Your brain will be confused but it is just fun to eat.
Service was excellent. Total for everything was (with 16% tip) $275. It was worth every penny. Definately going back. Did i mentioned we met Morimoto himself and took pictures? Oh yeah!
- Pros: Morimoto was there. Menu is creative and delicious.
- Cons: Portions are small. It's quality over quantity.
Great taste and presentation
by CookThis
Went to Morimoto tonight for a date. The restaurant is large and beautiful. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The food was wonderful. The Iron Chef even came by our table to see how everything was. We didn?t expect to even see him there. It was a great spot and prices are quite reasonable for the quality of the experience. Highly recommended as a NYC restaurant lover.
- Pros: Amazing presentation follows through to the taste of the food.
- Cons: Portions may be a bit small for a LARGE appetite.
Nice Atmosphere...Too Expensive!
by kentrosi
I am a big Food Network fan so I made it a mission to dine at Morimoto. I sat at the regular sushi bar because the Omakase bar was way too expensive. i ordered some shashimi and a spicy tuna hand roll. No alchohol. The bill was triple what I pay for the same thing at many other sushi resturants with fish as fresh as what I received at Morimoto. I'm glad i went to check it out, but I probably will not be back due to cost.
- Pros: Very fresh fish
- Cons: Too expensive
Not worth the hype!
by JP01234
Well, the presentation was beautiful. Unfortunately, beyond that it doesn't add up to the over $325 price tag for 2 people (with minimal alcohol).
The service was rushed, we were asked multiple times "are you done with that", when we were either clearly not done or still chewing. Separate courses were served at the same time, except for the side order of bok choy to go with the steak that never showed up at all.
The kobe beef was delicious, but for the usual japanese fare, it was not any better than some of the best sushi I've had elsewhere, for a lot less money and much larger pieces. My toro was tough & sinewy. The sushi had zero presentation, my local take-out in Brooklyn does a better job. Go once for the smoke and mirrors perhaps, then eat at Nobu if you're looking for extraordinary japanese food.
- Pros: hmmm... tough question
- Cons: High price without merit, poor service
