Love Cercle Rouge
by Sammi Mendenhall
Cercle Rouge is my go-to place in NYC because it's like Cheers--everyone knows your name.
Go!
- Pros: Great service
A good French bistro
by accidentalvoyeur
Came here with a restaurant dot com coupon, and I'm glad my date and I had one because this place is pricey. The food was really yummy and was a nice dinner overall. Started with escargot and the butttery sauce was too die for and perfect for dipping the bread into. Ordered trout almondine for myself and as yummy as it tasted, it was a bit too buttery and a little oversalted for my tastes (and I'm a big salt lover). All the butter on everything did taste great, obviously butter makes everything more delicious, but I felt like I had to be good and eat raw vegetables for the rest of the week after all that. My bf had the quail with foie gras in it, and the quail I thought was good, but wasn't digging the taste of the foie gras, even though I'm normally a fan. For dessert we shared pears in syrup and red wine with ice cream, and a slice of cornbread - which was a perfect end to our meal. Our waiter was very attentive and had a good personality. Would come back, but only with a coupon since it's definitely pricey.
- Pros: Service and food was excellent overall
- Cons: Food is covered in Lots of butter and salt
A beautiful feeling

Brought wife here for a chilled-out birthday dinner, and we were easily given a cozy corner booth. Live band was fun, food was excellent (I wish I could get my roasted vegs to come out like that at home), and the manager brought out a dessert w/ sparkler and bday greeting for my wife without my having even requested it. Joie de vivre and whatnot. Highly recommended. Not cheap, but certainly not overpriced, either.
- Pros: Food, decor, staff, vibe
- Cons: Price?
Watch for Tip Fraud

I went in with my three friends for a dinner.
Foods were okay, I wouldn't say the best french I ever had.
Those that are Tourist and foreigners, BE AWARE.
After the meal, they bring out a bill with 20% gratuity when the menu says 20% for party of 6 or more.
I asked the waiter why 20% when we are party of 4. He looked at me and said, "Oh, I thought you were visiting!" Of course that is not what I wanted to hear, so I called the manager in private and asked him what is going on. He says, "There are a lot of tourists here...." Again, what a unprofessional remark from the manager!
I couldn't believe it.
Food is one thing, but service really makes up restaurant. Stop frauding tourist or foreigners!
Please watch for your bills guys!
- Pros: ok food
- Cons: bad service and Tip fraud
Adorable Hidden Gem
by PFPicardi
I (of course) Citysearch-ed cute little restaurants in SoHo when my parents came to town. I thought French would definitely be interesting, so Cercle Rouge came up as an option. I was excited to try it -- and the location is pretty convenient (right past Canal Street on West Broadway). The place was so adorable... a really awesome French New Orleans-vibe, the staff is beautiful, and the hostess was very attentive and gave us a great table. The decor when we went was Halloween-themed, and they did such a nice job... it really set the tone for the meal. We all ordered something different, but we had trouble deciphering the menu, which our French waiter unfortunately couldn't help us translate. That was the ONLY setback (the prices were totally reasonable), and any apprehension we had about ordering these french dishes disappeared when we tasted them. Everything was delicious. So, the shot in the dark was worth it... Definitely get Les Moules (in any sauce, though I had the basil and lemon) with pomme frites. And the French Onion soup was great, too. Ill be back!
- Pros: Great food, prompt service, amazing New Orleans-like vibe
- Cons: Staff could have been a little more well-versed
Good neighborhood bistro

Good place for a drink and a casual meal. No waits and the food is better than decent.
- Pros: relaxed, friendly, reliable
- Cons: expensive bar food
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE
by andrewmueller
An extra $129.57 charge to my debit card in addition to my small bill of $35.93. Put a hold on all my funds and only a simple "Sorry Sir for the inconvenience."
Never again - watch out.
- Cons: Crooks not cooks
my fav french restaurant in ny
by jlacko
After eating here I can say it's my favorite French restaurant in NY and it ranks in my top 3 favorite restaurants overall. The portions are quite generous and the food is ridiculously good. The richness... omg... the richness..... The onion soup was amazing, the scallop cocktail was mouth watering, duck was delicious... oysters were yum... Everything was really just immaculate. I definitely recommend this place to everyone. I already plan to have my birthday dinner here :)
Different Place..

We tried Cercle Rouge when it first opened and were disappointed, but today is a whole different story! We've been back about four times now and each time the food is amazing and the service is great as well. Low key atmosphere and you can sit outside too.
- Pros: staff,food
- Cons: parking,busy
