Fabulous Food and Great Atmosphere
by RodFanOne at Citysearch
Rosa Mexicano is one of my favorite places to eat when I am in the city. I usually go to the uptown location but last night we tryed the Union Square venue. It is a beautiful restaurant full of color and textures. The restaurant was well lit (not too dark and not too bright) and full of energy. It was crowded but we made a reservation on line, arrived at the restaurant and were seated right away. We of course had the fresh guacamole which was awesome. For dinner I had the Filet con Hongos (AHHH My Favorite) and my friend had the Red Snapper which he said was delicious. We treated ourselves to a few margaritas. I thought they were a bit strong but that could just be me. Dessert was a delicious chocolate cupcake.
I really enjoy this restaurant and will continue to go. The waiter was also super nice and knowledgeable which makes a big difference in the overall dining experience. While we sat at a table, there is also a roomy bar if that is what you prefer. When you go check out the lovely waterfall wall.
- Pros: Amazing fresh guacamole made tableside
- Cons: The drinks are strong...that might be a pro for some people.
Slightly overpriced -- but the service and food are great
by toasterbunny4 at Citysearch
I'm usually skeptical of any place that can get away with charging $14 for a bowl of guacamole. Admittedly, I feel pretty ridiculous paying that much for guacamole, but I suppose if you're willing to splurge, they make it right in front of you and it's a nice campy little show -- and tastes great, of course. It's supposed to be for two, but I could probably eat the entire bowl (it comes in a caveman-like animal shaped stone vessel, like maybe your guacamole is a gift from the ancient Mayan gods?).
Regardless of the slight overpricey-ness here, the service is fantastic (some of the best I've gotten lately, actually), and the food itself is great. I love the slightly cheesy but energetic atmosphere. And the portions are decent, so you don't feel like you're getting totally ripped off.
Touristy Mexican Playground
by clowwwn at Citysearch
Rosa Mexicano is admittedly a pretty and fun space with big, delicious drinks and good service. But While you wait for way overpriced Mexican dishes, you notice that most people dining here are tourists and families with kids. Still, the food was good if not exceptional, and the decor is several notches above your neighborhood taqueria.
- Pros: Big space, food
- Cons: Prices
The best white sangria
by jteczynska at Citysearch
they have the best white sangria, and i love sangria. i go there with my boyfriend almost every friday and we never make a reservation, but we are always able to get a table within 30min wait. food is very flavorful and you have to have their empanadas-amazing!!! service is not always perfect, but it is very hard to get a good service in NYC. highly recommend.
- Pros: decor, white sangria
The TGI Fridays of Mexican Fare With A Daniel Attitude
by SeenItAll88 at Citysearch
Way over rated. The attitude in this place is unjustified elite. The food is clearly a corporate concoction with no soul. At the end of the day they are a Mexican restaurant, they spent a little money on the design and it's beautiful but it is just Mexican food. I don't know if it's a good thing that they take themselves so seriously. if they just lightened up and didn't pretend to be something they are not they would probably be fine. There is better Mexican in New York where there is a staff that actually enjoys having guests in their restaurant. I won't go back.
- Pros: The Design
- Cons: The Staff, Food
Lousy maitre d
by jen_brown at Citysearch
Go to one of the other smaller locations. I was so turned off last night after making a reservation and still having to wait 20 minutes despite my entire party being available. The size of the Union Square restaurant is overbearing, too loud and quite frankly, the maitre d, could not care about us last night. It felt like we were in Disney World. I am truly disappointed. WIll of course return, but to one of the other locales (UWS or UES)
Best EVER!

My friend and I stumbled upon this place last night and I was soooo glad we did! The atmosphere is amazing, the service was great, the drinks are fun (not to mention well priced!) and the food is FABULOUS! I cannot believe I didn't find this place sooner. Can't wait to go back!
- Pros: Atmosphere, Drinks, Prices, Service, Food
- Cons: None!
Rushed and rude BY Management!
by b1fin at Citysearch
When we were finishing our last par to four meal they started taking tables down and taking the room down. This isn't a dorm cafeteria. They stacked chairs and left them right behind our table. This is suppose to be a better restaurant, it's not cheap. I asked to speak with the manager. He came to our table and said oh sorry, I didn't know what the guys were doing. I was in the other room. I asked him isn't it your job to know? We were not in some privet hidden room. He really didn't care. It wasn't until I told him I will never return because of this that he said oh let me buy you a round of drinks. No, thank you. We are already leaving. Too little too late. I don't go to a restaurant and that packs up chairs before I'm done eating to make me feel like I'm being rushed out. I thought for a moment maybe we were some of the few left in the whole restaurant. Us and the 3 other tables in our section. It was 10:30pm, on a Thurs night. Then I went into the main dinning room. It was packed. Plain and simple if my employees do something while I am there that is unacceptable I take responsibility for it. If he didn't know then he's not doing his job. By his rudeness it was clear he just didn't care.
- Pros: close to home.
- Cons: management
Don't believe the Hype!! It's a Rip Off!
by jfasting at Citysearch
I walked out after my dinner feeling like I had been ripped off! taken advantage of! used!!! $14 for tableside guacamole- and only 1 avocado??!! According to the menu, it's for 2 people. That's possible if you each have one tablespoon. It was a bad start to dinner and then nothing was outstanding or special after that. Beautiful space, though. But I wouldn't go back.
- Pros: Beautiful Space
- Cons: Overpriced
