What impressed me at this restaurant most is the service - extremely attentive and polite, always with a smile, ready to help. From the doorman to busboys, everyone was ready to be of service. The atmosphere is elegant, tranquil and luxurious - the open view, marble staircases, high ceiling and tasteful choice of fabrics predispose to relaxed, slow paced dining. The wine list is overwhelming. Do ask the server for a recommendation - ours suggested us excellent wines, just what we described. As another reviewer noted, portions are on the small side. Expect to have 5 or more courses, which will ring up a good bill. Quality of food is excellent. Presentation is superb. In addition to our order, we received two free small courses - an appetizer and desert.

Pros: Service, food, ambience

Cons: Price

I just have to say: great place! it was a spontaneous decison to go there, but i don't regrett it. The food was delicious and i know what i talk about. I ve been in a lot of italian restaurants all over the world (even in toscany and rome) and I have to say they did a really good job in del Posto. The food prices are fair (52 usd for a five cours dinner) and the wines goes from moderate to expensive (but they have a really large selection of wine, I m sure u will find something... me and my cute accompanist were definitly underdressed (t-shirt, jeans and flip-flops) but the staff were friendly and cared about us...

Pros: great food, large wine list

The famous owners and Chef of Del Posto should really examine every aspect of this ridiculous restaurant- overpriced, tiny tasteless portions, uneventful in every way- what a terrible disappointment to real foodlovers!!

Pros: minuses so outweigh the pluses that it's not even worth saying anything positive!!!

Cons: Please!!

My husband took me to Del Posto last weekend for my birthday, and it was quite a treat. Upon entering the restaurant, we were immediately seated upstairs, which seemed quieter than the lower level, which I was happy about. We ordered the five course menu and everything we ate was beautifully prepared and so fresh, especially the pasta dishes, one with rabbit and asparagus, and the other with pancetta, garlic and pesto. They were generous with most items, from the amuse bouche (actually 3 of them) to the plate of delicate petit fours to end the meal. Our waiter was professional and knew the menu in extensive detail, which we appreciated. The only problem was that our first four courses were slightly rushed, but otherwise it was a very nice evening. I would definitely recommend it, as we truly enjoyed the food and atmosphere.

Pros: Professional Service, Delicious Food, Atmosphere

Cons: Slightly Rushed Meal

We just ate at del Posto yesterday for lunch. It is Restaurant Week and we had a great lunch! I've read the reviews where people had bad service, but we didn't encounter any problems at all! The food was really enjoyable and my husband and I had a great anniversary meal while in town. I would highly recommend del Posto and would go again if the opportunity came up. The mozzarella melted in my mouth. We ordered salmon and pork and the 2 were a great combination. The hazelnut mousse was fantastic with the spicy hazelnuts. I would only recommend that they put a little more citrus on the plate to cut the chocolate some. Enjoy!!

Yes, it's a beautiful restaurant. The food is good but it's not classic. I was hard pressed to find something to order. My salad had a little too much dressing. My husband had issues with his plate. his knife and fork kept slipping into the plate. The Matire 'd said yes others have said the same thing but that's how it is. I guess the look of the plate is more important. I don't care how others dress, but if there is a dress code such as jacket required then it should be requried for all, and that was not the case. There was a large group that I saw without jackets. My husband said the food was good, I thought it was ok, but would not go back simply becuase I would prefer more well made classics. I don't really consider the menu italian, I would call it neauveau italian

Pros: nice restaurant, decent service

Cons: to neauveau for my taste, plates

This "celebrity" chef needs to stop reading his own press releases and get back to cooking good unpretentious food. I took my wife here for her birthday believing that when you pay $17 for a salad, $30 for an appetizer and $65 dollars for an entree you deserve the best. Boy was I wrong. The pasta tastings revealed a heavy-handed overspicing ruining what should have been, by its description, delicious. If that wasn't bad enough, the Veal Millanesse was inedible. Unfortunatly, we both ordered it. The waiter removed the offending dishes which tasted as if a full shaker of salt had been dumped on it. When we complained to the head waiter, he explained that they had several complaints that evening about the veal. In a restaurant of this caliber there is no excuse for such poor quality control. Mr. Batali, do yourself a favor and let Lidia get more involved. This never would have happened at Felidia.

Pros: beautiful space

Cons: the food

Food quality is amazing, but if you are hungry, you will continue to be hungry after spending big bucks. I ordered as a starter the gnocci al ragu, amazing, but only seven gnoccis came in the plate... But let's be fair, it was really good. I recommend you look at the wine list before getting there, I think they have more than 1,000 choices. But if you skip it, don't panic, the sommelier is very good and courteous (excellent job!). Decor is very nice too. Strange and botox people tend to come to this place too, but, hey, it's NY... (I miss the old times where people would make an effort dress nicely to come to such a nice place...)

Pros: Food, wine, decor, service

Cons: Botox people, portions too small

What service! What food! What ambiance! We went at 4:45 because that was the only reservation available and we were seeing a show after. Dinner was amazing, almost were there for 3 hours. The servers and others were friendly, not snobbish at all, and they KNEW their stuff, everything from the wine to the courses, etc. Not cheap by ANY means and my sister thought many of the dishes were too salty, but I am a salt freak so i loved it.. I mean, they even provide you with a little stool aside your shair to rest your purse on...divine really! The only snob was the bar tender. Everyone else was TOP notch, great experience all around..

Pros: exceptional service, grand ambiance, delicious food course after course

Cons: little salty and obviously quite costly
