Fabulous Food

by beach buddy 27

This was a most enjoyable evening. We had 9:30 reservation and we did not sit until 10:00 ( it was worth the wait). The service was wonderful and so was the food. Nothing was disappointing about this restaurant. This is what people expect when they go to a fine new york restaurant. Go and enjoy!

  • Pros: service and food
  • Cons: 3o minute wait for the table

Disappointing Service

by MindExplosion

Sadly, despite excellent food and a staff that appeared very well-meaning, our Fathers' Day dinner was a bit of a mess. We were seated 45 minutes late for a 9pm reservation, despite having been assured at 9 and 9:15pm that our table would be available shortly. A long wait is made infinitely worse by poor time estimation or, even worse, straight dishonesty with the customer about the expected time to be seated. Once we'd been seated, the meal and service were excellent, and it was clear that management was doing its best to make up for our long wait - including providing two free appetizers on top of what we'd ordered. Personally, I would've much preferred to be comped for food we DID order, but the gesture was appreciated. HOWEVER, at the end of the meal, I found that the complimentary appetizers had been INCLUDED ON OUR CHECK, to the tune of $60 extra. I'm sure it was an honest mistake (our server was extremely apologetic, claiming - honestly, in my view - that a shift change had occurred and he hadn't been informed of that free appetizers had been provided), but this truly added insult to injury. The overall experience was far from horrible, but also far from good, so I'd be surprised if my wife and I returned, and we certainly would NOT trust Del Posto with a special occasion meal again.

Five star pricing, 3 star quality

by Candyx214

First of all, while everyone is praising how elegant the restaurant, I have to say that I was totally disappointed. It was a well decorated restaurant, but there is nothing special about it.

We went on a Tuesday night and a lot of the food that was on the menu were not available, such as Fra Gra and Tiramisu. Well, the bread was probably the star of the night even though it was nothing special. Then the Antipasti was creative, a bit to the salty side but acceptable (especially the albalone). Then the pastas, probabaly the biggest part of the disappointment. It was just tasteless. The the secondi wasn't worth remembering either. I had the lamb, which was okay, but the duck was defintely a better choice. Again, even though we had six people at the table, not even one of us was crazy about the food.

I have to mention that the restaurant was very generous to offer us a bottle of free dessert wine for a birthday occasion.

Not worth it

by Steam

Presentations were great. One of the best wine lists i've seen. Otherwise, very disappointing. Way too salty with pasta dishes, fish was tasteless....and they whack you for this? Lidia, come on!

  • Pros: Wine list, service
  • Cons: overpriced, too salty, small portions, pretentious

Take advantage of restaurant week

by Chaimshalom

While this place is very expensive, if you can get seated in the Enoteca area (near the bar) and it's restaurant week or they are offering the $35 prix fixe, head there. For $35 you get an appetizer, a pasta course, main course, and dessert, all up to the normal high standards of the restaurant. It's one of the best bargains I've found in NY.

  • Pros: Great value for the prix fixe
  • Cons: Wine is expensive

Dissapointed

by taglioli

My wife and I ate at Del Posto and both got sick. It took two calls before Alfredo ?manager? call back, he then proceeded to defended his suppliers and refused any responsibility or offered any semblance of customer service. Shame on you Mario Batali, we live in Los Angeles and eat at your LA, Las Vegas and New York restaurants, and while we understand it?s not your fault to have tainted food, we did expected better treatment.

Fabulous

by fancy66

Went with friends for NYE and on a night when most restaurants will fail to even come close, Del Posto far exceeded our expectations. We were early for our table and sat in the bar for a glass of champagne. The waitress was so cheerful and friendly it made for a good start. Morgan, the sommelier was extremely helpful and went along with the men calling him "Carlo" even going as far as printing up a fake business card that listed his name as such (inside joke but he was very good about it). Food portions were small, but the dinner was well paced and we were full by the end. The only dissapointment was dessert, but the homemade truffles more than made up for it.

The other posters were right in that the service is top notch and we will definately be back again.

  • Pros: Great Service
  • Cons: Not this time

You get what you pay

by patrichlmm

I have eaten at Del Posto many times and never been disappointed. The service and food are consistent and impressive. I've never ordered the same thing twice and am thankful because they do everything perfectly.

This is a great place to take almost anyone due to the variety on the menu. It's pricey but . . . you get what you pay for honey.

A fine choice for a special occasion

by xilonic

What impressed me at this restaurant most is the service - extremely attentive and polite, always with a smile, ready to help. From the doorman to busboys, everyone was ready to be of service.

The atmosphere is elegant, tranquil and luxurious - the open view, marble staircases, high ceiling and tasteful choice of fabrics predispose to relaxed, slow paced dining.

The wine list is overwhelming. Do ask the server for a recommendation - ours suggested us excellent wines, just what we described.

As another reviewer noted, portions are on the small side. Expect to have 5 or more courses, which will ring up a good bill. Quality of food is excellent. Presentation is superb. In addition to our order, we received two free small courses - an appetizer and desert.

  • Pros: Service, food, ambience
  • Cons: Price

great service, great food

by chimaera999

I just have to say: great place! it was a spontaneous decison to go there, but i don't regrett it. The food was delicious and i know what i talk about. I ve been in a lot of italian restaurants all over the world (even in toscany and rome) and I have to say they did a really good job in del Posto. The food prices are fair (52 usd for a five cours dinner) and the wines goes from moderate to expensive (but they have a really large selection of wine, I m sure u will find something... me and my cute accompanist were definitly underdressed (t-shirt, jeans and flip-flops) but the staff were friendly and cared about us...

  • Pros: great food, large wine list
