Just Plain Bad

by PhantomLodger

So I'm looking for a new lunch spot. Something consistent. Something affordable. Something quick. How bad could a burger place be? Clue number one: one glove. Interpretation: you can wipe your backside with your left hand and still make burgers. Clue number two: cashier is handling money (with glove) and assembling burgers. Ick. After waiting for 10 minutes in the ordering line with very loud, very bad techno pounding in my head, I had lost my appetite and opted for the chili--cheese no onions TO GO.

After another 10 minute wait in a crowd of neanderthals in suits, my chili arrived and I decided to sit down. (It couldn't get any worse, could it?) Onions. I HATE ONIONS. Raw onions are the foulest condiment known to man, yet here they are--a whole stinking pile of them--in MY chili. Return to sender. I must assume it was too great a feat to take a fresh plastic bowl and ladle in some fresh chili. I realized very quickly that my "new" chili was my old chili with the onions scraped off and the stubborn bits covered with cheese.

Loud, crowded, lazy and NASTY.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Foul, overpriced, loud

mediocre-Burger

by arlene77

OK, as soon as I got in, I didnt know which line was which. I stood around for a good 5 min until I realized where to stand. The counter people were aight, but they still seemed agitated. They charge you for the pickle and lettuce. the burigers are too small. After you place ur order, u stand around and the number that they give u has nothing to do with the one before It is such bull----wont be going back. Goodburger my ---!

thank you!

Slow, overpriced, tiny portion.

by BedlamBedlam

Wow, just finished my take out burger. Yeah, it was alright, nothing special. But I'm starving, man!

This thing was smaller than what my 3 yr old son gets for a kids meal.

It was waaaay overpriced and I stood about 15-20 minutes in line to get the dang order, the guy showed the bag into my hands without saying a word.

Must mention that the deli-like "number" that you get means nothing. They pick the numbers completely randomly. So you will get a bunch of people who came in after you getting their order in first.

Pretty maddening all things considered.

I am never coming back. I'll give it about a month to survive in Center City Philadelphia.

What a waste of space.

okburger

by gibashiny

We walked into a place that said goodburger on the outside but felt more like okburger once we were inside. We ordered one combo with the turkeyburger, fries and a soda and cole slaw. Although, the burger tasted great, the bun was the average 50 cent wonderbread bun. Even Mcdonald's provides a sesame bun for thier big macs. And what is really terrible is that the combos don't come with a pickle on the side. You have to order a whole pickle seperately and it costs $1.75. WHAT A RIPOFF! The cole slaw was a tiny portion for a $1.50. It is about half the size that KFC provides and KFC's cole slaw tastes better too.

  • Pros: good tasting burger
  • Cons: price, cramped seating, no refills on soda etc.

What Happened?

by annielloyd

We were so excited when Goodburger opened up. The burgers, fries and shakes are awesome. At first the owners were always there, the service was great and the prices were fairly reasonable. The food is still great but now the service has gone downhill and the prices seem to be about 20-30% more than when they opened. On a recent night we spent $25-30 bucks for a to-go meal for two. The three people working the orders neglected to make our shakes and by the time they finally finished, our food was cold. I'm sure we will still go to goodburger because the food is very good and really, there's nothing else around. Still, I wish they would lower the prices and get some better help. Also, the newer seating arrangement is very cramped. We never eat-in anymore.

  • Pros: great burgers
  • Cons: rising prices

yummy yummy yummy!

by nycdokwo

while i've never been to the one on lexington ave, i've gone to the one on 2nd ave numerous times and they never disappoint. the burgers are consistently good - juicy, flavorful and fresh. i get the Number 1 Combo, which is a burger, fries, and a drink for about 10 bucks. the fries are a little too skinny, but overall its great and not overly greasy. the lettuce and tomato is always very fresh and crisp as well, so i always get "the works." i hate some of the other burger places that charge you extra for different extra toppings, this is not one of those joints. the burgers are also the perfect size, not too big, not too small.

  • Pros: excellent burgers, perfect preparation, efficient, consistent
  • Cons: long line during lunch time, but it usually moves pretty fast

Overpriced and mediocre. Go elsewhere.

by radior

I just came back from trying the Goodburger on Lex. Avenue in the 50's. The burger was way below par. Nothing like a Blue 9 burger, or In & Out on the West Coast. There are many places in the city that have better burgers (Iike Wendy's). Furthermore, at $7 for a cheeseburger, you're getting ripped off. At Goodburger, $10 gets you a burger and onion rings or with fries. The combo (with a drink) costs even more and their shakes are $5 a pop. It's a ripoff. The quality of the burger is nothing to write home about - about the quality you'd get at an average bodega in the city. So either go elsewhere for your burger craving - or lower your expectations.

  • Pros: The restaurant itself is pretty new
  • Cons: The quality of the food and value for money.

City's best burger

by mbp117x

In my opinion, Goodburger makes New York's best burger. Granted, NYC is not exactly a hotbed of awesome burgers, but there are some excellent places and I rank Goodburger above them all. Tasty and unpretentious, the very flavorful meat patty is enhanced even further by the fresh toppings and orderly construction (it doesn't collapse into a goopy mess once you take a bite). It's also the perfect size -- too many NYC burgers are giant chunks of beef that are hard to eat with your hands and don't really give you the "burger experience." Goodburger's burgers are perfectly proportioned and do the job with an order of the excellent fries. Again, nothing fancy here -- the fries are thin and somewhat resemble McDonald's. But they're very good. And the shakes are top-notch, too. While it is just a burger joint, I've found Goodburger to be a great place to burn an hour or so on a Saturday/Sunday fall afternoon, as the interior is clean and comfortable, and the widescreen TV is usually tuned to whatever big football or baseball game is on.
