I've walked into a few yarn stores in the city and have been highly dissappointed. Why are most yarn stores so bitchy????? Everyone is so friendly at the point and thier classes are amazing. Barbara Kerr can teach you pretty much anything you want to know about the fiber arts. Everything from the music to the pie from the cafe is great. You have to try this place!
Pros: everything
Cons: I wish they were in Astoria

I LOVE this store. First of all it looks great. The food is fab, and the staff was fantastic. I was looking for my first project yarn and I came in on a really busy day (Saturday - duh, didn't know) but the manager took me all over the store and helped me pick out my very first yarn. I signed up for a class and I can't wait to come again. Two knitter's thumbs up!
Pros: great staff
Cons: kind of crowded on a Saturday. Hard to move around

I'm an experienced knitter and I've shopped at almost every knitting store in NYC....but The Point has the WORST customer service in NYC!! The owner/manager was so rude to me when I went in there with a problem that was really a manufacturer defect. She refused to do anything to help me AND she was unnecessarily rude...so I will never shop there again. This is no idol threat, I spend thousands each year on knitting supplies, and I also teach knitting....I will make sure to tell all knitters that I know not to shop there either.
Pros: There are none
Cons: HORRIBLE customer service

These folks are working hard to please EVERYONE and are really close to doing it. My knitting experience extends some 35+ years and they carry yarns new to me that I am not seeing in other yarn shops in the city. Great selection of yarns, tools and accessories. A group of us, who knit professionally for Broadway shows and major motion pictures, have made this a "must stop" on our rounds. Is that Ms. Kidman's shawl at the next table?
Pros: Inviting, clean, well lighted
Cons: not enough hours in my personal day to visit as often as I'd like

Knitters and crocheters know they are welcome here! Yesterday I stopped by, a Learn to Knit Class had ten sitting around a long table; an advanced class of three gathered around a smaller table; three additional tables held yet more people selecting or discussing their projects. This is the real deal: a neighborhood knitting/crochet shop drawing people to their cafe tables (coffe, tea and fruit juices available). Fantastic hours! Open Sundays too.

The people that work in the Poin are verry helpful and all the food that they serve in there is yummy. I just think they have a terrific selection in all the yarn that they sell
Pros: It is abreat place to relax. Is also in good area in the W. Village
Cons: Sometimes it's hard for me to go because it is sometimes out of my way

I read about The Point and thought it would be a great place to learn to knit. Took the beginner class and it was terrible. The teacher was not helpful and sped through everything so quickly, I don't think an experienced knitter could have followed. A couple students asked if she could go over something again, and her response was "the class is too big for me to do that, so go on the knittinghelp website". I think that is ridiculous and unacceptable for people paying $90 for 2 classes. Then make the classes smaller. The only reason for the second class was so they could rush through it to leave half an hour at the end for us to buy yarn that we probably couldn't use when we got home because we forgot what we were taught. I was extremely disappointed and really turned me off to not only The Point, but to knitting in general.

I discovered the Point Knitting Cafe when I took up knitting 2 years ago. I went to 3 or 4 different stores in lower Manhattan, but kept coming back to The Point. Their selection is wonderful, the surroundings are ward and comfortable, and I can go and knit and nosh at the same time. On those cold winter days I appreciate the fact that I can just go to The point, bring my latest knitting project and spend half the day there. I get my cappuccino, my pastry when I arrive and hours later a piece if quiche or a panini for lunch The employees at The Point are always very friendly, happy to help me figure out things when I am stymied, and just to chat about knitting. I have taken 4 different classes and have enjoyed the instructors very much, an the fact that you can simply enroll for a class from their website www.thepointnyc I highly recommend The Point Knitting cafe to anyone in the city and for visitors or even foreigners to check out.
Pros: Great staff, Food is tasty and a big plus, Awaeome selection of classes
Cons: None

I took my first knitting class at The Point because it was near my office. Boy am I glad I found this place. The class was fun, the teacher was great and I learned quickly. Supplies are included in the beginner classes and they offer a discount on your first purchase. What makes it stand out is the help I received after the class. After massively messing up my first scarf, I went to The Point for some help. One of their fantastic knitters sat at a table with me, undid my mistakes and then taught me how to avoid it happening again. She made sure I was back on track before letting me leave. It felt great knowing I could turn to them for help as I figure out what I'm doing. The prices seem a bit high to me, but I've only done a limited about of shopping around. For beginner knitters, the help you'll get at this great shop is worth a few extra dollars.
Pros: Amazing help for newbie-knitters, great classes
Cons: Pricey

After visiting several shops in the area, I'm glad that I made a trip to The Point. Although small, it has a nice setup and was really inviting. The staff greeted me and asked if I needed help. I didn't really plan to buy yarn, just sit, knit, and see what yarn they carried for future reference. They have a nice variety but some of the yarn was out of reach which made it hard to see and feel. I went after work and there was a nice little crowd of people which gave it an inviting feel. The cafe has a great assortment of goodies and drinks which are reasonably priced given how things cost in the city. I will definitely be visiting The Point more often.
Pros: good service
Cons: yarn is too high to reach
