So I live in the neighborhood and I want to like Chicory because I see it as a convenient and healthy alternative to take out BUT they keep screwing me. I have ordered three times in the past month with the hope the mistake they made the first time would not repeat. But now I give up. round #1 a chicken BLT sounds good then I get home and their's no bacon. round #2 The smallest cesar salad I have ever seen and a buffalo chicken sandwich, I hear the cook behind the counter tell the guy making my food "there's not enough chicken its too small a piece" and I get home and I have a pile of iceburg lettuce and a piece of chicken that fits on half the sandwich. round #3 tonight I try for the last time and yes the buffalo sandwich was right but the cobb salad with famous blue cheese dressing...no dressing. So I give up its too inconsistent and you can hear the cook be-little the prep guy while he makes the food and it makes me not want to eat there. Chicory is blah and its expensive.

Pros: its a last resort if your desperate

Cons: they will definitly screw up your order

Chicory rocks! I had the chicken under a brick, well prepared, juicy and flavorful. The side of baked beans had a hint of BBQ flavor that made it feel like a summer picnic. The escarole greens with lima beans really makes you want to eat your greens. And they have watermelon aqua frescas. Prices are very reasonable ($13 for all of the above, not including drink). Only caution I would have is that the dining room is warm and stuffy, so I'd recommend delivery or take out.

Pros: Healthy, tasty cuisine

Cons: Poor ventilation in the dining room

This place has been a godsend to our neighborhood. You can't go wrong anytime of day here. Breakfasts sandwiches are the best in the neighborhood, the potato chips are way too addictive and for dinner the steak tips, mac n'cheese and beef stew are awesome.

Pros: taste/quality, value, very friendly service

Cons: more seating

How on earth is this place only rated an 8.4? It's fantastic! I signed up so I could write a review. My boyfriend and I stopped in for the first time during the Blizzard of 2006 and had a delicious lunch of butternut ginger squash soup and what was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had in NYC! (roastbeef with roquefort cheese, lettuce & tomato on whole grain. mmm) They even serve my favorite, sweet potato fries! The people were so friendly and the place is adorable. Although it does only have one table and a few stools at the window so it's best for takeout or a small group. I will definitely be back!

Pros: Food, Service, Cute

Cons: Small

I have never written a citysearch review but of course do read them when I want to check a place out. And, if any place warrants a glowing review it is Chicory. It is the perfect "around the corner spot" for a simple coffee and breakfast. It feels indulgent but it is so afforadable. I am addicted to the breakfast salad. Who would have thought salads were breakfast food? I don't know how they do it but simpe salads and dressings are so tasty and simple that you never get sick of them or feel something is too "much". Chicory feels like it would be your favorite spot in Vermont or Maine or a quiet mountain town - but it is right here - in Brooklyn!

This place is so adorable and the food is ALWAYS great tasting. For breakfast I love the egg sandwhiches on 7-grain bread with rich cheddar cheese, the fluffy blueberry pancakes, the breakfast burrito and the exceptionally flavorful scones. for lunch the meatloaf melt and soups are amazing and for dinner chicken-under-a-brick, rissoto con funghi cakes and fries-with-truffle-mayo are truly amazing. not to mention all the sides and desserts! get there fast meet Gavin, the chef-turned-owner, and become a convert like me!

Pros: inexpensive, amazing flavors, always fresh
