Overall it's a great place for a party
4 Star Rating: Recommended

I was looking for a place to have my 30th party - was going to be on a Saturday night, for 50-70 people and I wanted good music to dance to, no lines/list, space reserved without having to pay a fortune or guarantee too much money for drinks, a cool atmosphere and a place that wouldn't get packed - so quite a tall order in NYC. I stumbled across nexus and liked it because it seemed to fit all of the criteria and it didn't seem that too many people knew about it yet. I talked to Paul the manager several times about the party and he said he would reserve one side of the bar for me, i wouldnt have to pay any money or guarantee drinks, and he let me request a dj that played mainstream music. He also said that not too many other people would be allowed down to the party. All in all, in turned out to be a great night - the music was great and my friends had a lot of fun and the bartender gave all of my drinks to me on the house. I was initially annoyed because when i got there he had only reserved 2 sets of seats for me and said that they had double booked and so there would be 4 parties down there. When I complained (and i had just confirmed 2 days before) he moved one of the parties upstairs. They also let too many people down as the bouncer seemed to disappear for a bit but overall i think it offered almost everything i was looking for so i would recommend it - you just need to stay on top of things!

Pros: Cool atmosphere, good music, not overly packed

Cons: Need to stay on top of management when planning a party
