Wow! Truly a bad experience!

We were shopping at Bloomingdale's on a Tuesday evening and decided to get a bite and a drink at David Burke, never again! We ordered a crab and a chicken sandwich and two of their house special margaritas. The margaritas were ok, but absolutely unadorned and served in food-service style water glasses. The food, well the food took about 40 minutes to arrive at our table, as we watched numerous tables sit down and get their food. The waiter kept on coming by and telling us that it's coming. When it finally arrived it was a bland mess. The crab panini consisted of unseasoned crab mush between badly toasted Wonder-style slices of bread; it was lukewarm. The chicken panini was unmanageable, most of the filling fell out at first bite. We ate quickly and waited for 10 minutes for our check, as we watched numerous Bloomingdale's employees congregate by the entrance and have a loud gossip session. A minute before our bill arrived another waiter brought us yet another set of the two dishes we ordered (they actually looked better than the ones we got), oops! Plus the heavy dust covered copies of David Burke's book did not look too appetizing dangling above our table. Yuck.
- Cons: service, food, location
I love the Crab Panini
by fisk212
David Burke is a busy fast paced hot spot in Bloomingdales, a real New York scene. All the dishes are over the top but the crab is not to be missed also the Asian Shrimp served on a block of salt is a home run, I am so happy to see gourmet food in a casual setting, its a winner!!!!
- Pros: cool setting
- Cons: tight seating
Its about time

I love Bloomies for doing something new, not your tired old dept store restaurant. I did not care for it the first time I went, but I just went again today. The restaurant was clean as a whistle, not like last time, the host at the door could not be any more charming & the waiter gave us excelent service. the food was so creative except for the dessert the brownie was the worst I ever had & the panna cotta was like water, but dinner made up for the bad dessert, thanks Bloomingdales
- Pros: good apps
- Cons: poor desserts not as consistant with david burke on 61st
Awful food. and way overpriced.

never have written a bad review before on citysearch, but i cannot let this slide. this restaurant is clearly serving cheap, poorly prepared food and cashing in on david burke's name. if he has any connection to the quality of ingredients, he has ruined his credibility. went to lunch in the cafe. the club wrap had cheap processed turkey. the cobb salad came without the avocados that were on the menu as being part of it. no explanation was given for why they were not included. the waitress offered to sub an item and i asked for the zucchini. she brought squash when i had about 5 more bites of salad left. bottom line, very overpriced- $45 for sandwich and a salad and the food was no better than a corner market- i.e., awful.
- Pros: none
- Cons: everything
Good GOD! What is David Burke thinking?
by mmm22
My late lunch experience here was worse than dismal - dumplings on a toothpick... INEDIBLE; asiago/truffle french fries (I know, sound good don't they?)... disgusting!!!! I think we detected fries from no less than 4 different batches in our serving; cobb salad... by that point we were so disgusted we didn't even care that the avocado listed on the menu was nowhere to be found in the salad - it was almost palatable, so we ate it. Service was appalling - I had to ASK the waiter to wipe down the counter at which we were seated because it was sticky. He did, however, the counter continued to be sticky even after this. It also looked like there was suspicious 'matter' on the shelf where some glasses were stored - INVERTED... in the 'matter'!!!! I wish I had a friend in a certain government department, I would have called before we left. Chef Burke may need to drop by and keep an eye on things every so often.
- Pros: Raphael Nadal was playing a tennis match on TV the day I went
- Cons: The food, the service, the cost of the food, the food
A whimsical chef's dual-concept eatery is Bloomingdale's most fashionable accessory.

The Scene
Designed with sophisticated shoppers and suits in mind, the playful restaurant is divided into two sections: In the Bar for on-point waiter service, and In the Box for speedy takeout and self-seating. Decorating both dining areas is an assortment of fanciful miscellanies--an Elmo-driven go-kart, candy wrappers encased in tabletops, pixilated and variegated patterns, even a collection of jack-in-the-boxes (a self-reflection from the jester chef?).
The Food
David Burke's signature imagination runs rampant on American favorites. The darlings of the restaurant, three petite Cheeseburkers, arrive on buttery, English muffin mini-buns with cherry tomato chapeaus. A generus bacon support system secures the towering, two-breasted chicken BLT, so big its top bread slice has been blown off. On the other hand, the mustard-spread crusty bread of the Big Pretzel panini provides a satisfying lunchtime crunch. The final spectacle, a tree of multi-flavored cheesecake lollipops (complete with bubblegum whipped cream), looks and tastes as outrageous as it sounds.
Frightful lunch experience
by nycdine
Terrible food and service. Staff has such an attitude. Went there - their famous sliders are virtually raw. No one said that this is how they are served. Sent them back to the kitchen twice - each time they were increasingly inedible. Staff was rude and could not be bothered. Plus had a hard time trying to find our server. Do not go. Keep shopping or go to another Bloomie's restaurant to refuel.
- Pros: Convenient for power shopping
- Cons: Wait staff, Lack of service, rude demeanor
the most overrated burger in the city
by oleeatwork
These burgers are overhyped. While the actual tiny burger portion of the three mini sliders is tasty, the bun is gross. The bottom part gets soaked through, thus breaking easily. The fries are mediocre. The service is uneven at best. The staff is constantly disappearing from the restaurant, making it impossible to get drink refills or to get the check. I have never been so tempted to walk out of a place. If you want a good burger, then definitely go elsewhere. Shake Shack, Corner Bistro, The Burger Joint, anywhere else.
- Cons: cost, lousy service
