Yummy!
by rosiefu at Citysearch
Really beautiful restaurant. Loved the ricotta cheese /bread appetizer. The portions are perfect and the wait staff we friendly. We were a bit rushed at the end but it was super busy on Sat. night so we understood why. We were at the table quite a bit of time
Great wine selections!
- Pros: Great ambiance
- Cons: Felt slightly rushed
great downtown italian
by lovesfoodct at Citysearch
My friend and I ate at A Voce for the first time recently. We were treated to wonderful italian food from beginning to end. The appetizers- especially the ricotta started the evening , the amazing special truffle pasta made us drool!
The wines by the glass suggested by staff complimented every course. I had the lamb chops, which were melt in your mouth amazing We finished our evening with the bomboloni which was chocolate heaven. Staff is attentive and informative. Will definitely be back for more!
- Pros: delightful flavors with wonderful, attentive service
Absolutely RUINED my 31st birthday
by CattK at Citysearch
Absolutely RUINED my 31st birthday. The people who manage A Voce know absolutely nothing about honesty, restaurant management or customer service. STAY AWAY AND SPEND YOUR MONEY WHERE IT IS APPRECIATED!
I had made reservations for a party of 10 at 7:30pm. First two guests in my party checked in at 7:35 and the rest of us ten minutes later at 7:45. At that time I was told it would be a few minutes. Then a very pushy man came outside and forced us to sit outside and drink as it would be 40 min. until we could be seated. I was very upset (especially because I told him we didn't want to drink), but nevertheless, we waited.
An hour and 45 minutes, we were still NOT SEATED, and I went inside to find out what was going on. What happened is that they never really has a table for us, and that they lied to us for almost 2 hours saying that we would be seated soon.
After close to two hours or waiting and still NO TABLE, we decided to leave and get burgers because we were famished (oh yeah, and no one came out to check on us, offer us appetizers and/or apologize for being total creeps.
Our dinner bill would have easily been over $1000, but the people at A VOCE have zero courtesy, business savvy or common courtesy. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND SPEND IT SOME PLACE THAT EARNS IT.
- Pros: Let me know what you find one
- Cons: Rude, no customer service, liars, pushy, disgusting
Excellent Experience
by jwpnycev at Citysearch
A Voce was not cheap but I didn't mind the price given the excellent quality of the food. We were a party of 4 who had drinks, appetizers, main courses, sides, a bottle of wine, dessert and 4 espresso's and with a generous tip the bill was about $125.00 per person. The appetizers were exquisite. I had an amazing loin of rabbit that I would love to have had as a larger plate as a main course. Another table mate had the octopus salad which as delicious and refreshing. The main courses were amazing with one table mate having a huge and perfectly cooked pork chop, I had the amazingly fresh halibut and the others treated themselves to the dorado. I have to mention the wine list which had excellent bottles on the low end ($25-50). A Voce is also one of the most comfortable restaurants in the city with chairs I would like to have in my home.
Finally I have to mention the service which was spot on. Two members of our party are in their 70s and walk with canes. I half expected us to be seated in Siberia since most of the crowd seemed young and beautiful and indeed my partner pointed out a famous couple (I forgot the names). Instead we were treated like royalty and the elderly couple, who happen to be my parents, had as much of a wonderful time as we did. I look forward to many more visits to A Voce!
- Pros: seating, food,ambience
- Cons: a bit pricey but worth it
Not the same without Andrew Carmellini
by soljc at Citysearch
I've eaten here multiple times when Andrew Carmellini was head chef and only have positive things to say about those experiences. But my most recent experience was a world different.
I should have been concerned that dinner reservations were wide open just an hour before my requested dinner time on Opentable. Service was mediocre at best and more properly described as underqualified. Asked about 3 separate dishes and was told by my latino server they were all "very good."
The spaghetti was tasteless. The chick peas in the broth of my halibut were barely cooked. Polenta could have been called polenta soup. Noise level was comical as we yelled at each other throughout the meal.
Manager said he would pass my comments along to the chef.
The experience was my last here.
- Cons: Food, Serivce, Cafeteria like noise
Exquisite Italian Cuisine
by NYCCPA at Citysearch
An excellent dining experience. We were greeted very warmly upon entering. The decor is very sleek and modern. Very nice table settings. Service was a nice balance of friendly and professional. Portion sizes were good but not overwhelming - its not about the quantity here. The mushroom ravioli appetizer was rich in flavor, with a delicate texture. My boyfriend had the scallop appetizer - also very good. The lamb chop entree was excellent, but the best part of the evening was the Tuscan donuts - OMG! I'm getting hungry just thinking about it again. Overall, a thoroughly delightful meal. I would definitely return.
Good start, bad finish

I went to Avoce last week, and spent $600 for six people, my server was attentive and the food was
simple and pretty good. Was my sister birthday, i told the Host, and he gave me a nice table.
I was expecting my brother and i told my waiter to order a steak for him medium rare, i asked him how long will it take and he said 20-25 minutes. The dish took 45 minutes, i was a little impatient, we were ready to
leave, and i decided to cancel it. Only at that point, Joseph, the host or manager decides to bring my
steak and told me that you can't order in Avoce 6 ounces of sliced beef and expected in less
than 45 minutes.. Very strange and very rude, when i left he was outside smoking.. Not very professional.
too hot, too loud, too slow
by aboutwinetime at Citysearch
I went to a Voce this past weekend and it was so hot and humid inside I couldn't enjoy a single part of the experience. I wish we had left instead of paying for food that I would have enjoyed more if I had made it in the comfort of my own home. Who needs a chef to cook for you if you're sweating through a meal? The whole place had an air of unprofessionalism. If you can't even make your restaurant comfortable temperature-wise, how can you expect people to pay these prices and want to come back? Its totally ridiculous. Don't go unless you want an over-priced sauna or it's winter. . . assuming they have heat.
- Cons: heat, slow service
When do you close?
by oenophile81 at Citysearch
Well, I couldn't really leave a review of the food. The hours of the restaurant are until 11pm. But I guess since it was "slow" I couldn't make a reservation even for 10pm. "I think we'll probably close around 9:30" the reservationist said. I'm sorry... This is New York City. If you are open until 11pm you should stand there with the door open until 11pm. Especially if someone is calling for reservations at 10pm. Ridiculous. This place needs a little dose of professionalism. I won't try to go back.
- Pros: Good neighborhood
- Cons: Hours of operation are unclear. Needs a little professionalism.
Love this place!

I've been here to eat and drink outside a couple times now and I love it! The ambiance is great with the palm plants and lounge area. Perfect to have a drink and then sit down for dinner. The food on the menu is fancy Italian and a little funky. I had the chicken which comes with an orange-colored foam on it that was actually really good. The sugared cream-filled donuts with warm chocolate sauce for dessert are DELISH! Also, the service is great and everyone is super accommodating.
