THE Best Weave

by Angilicious

I got a long straight Remy weave done by Shanda. I've gotten so many compliments. At first I was gonna get a lace front weave but we both agreed with brutal honesty that I looked like Neanderthal woman because I have a low hairline. She suggested the weave which fit my face and made me look super. This took hours out of her day - to take out the neanderthal thing, wait for me to get new hair, etc. She did not complain or charge extra. She's great. I paid $200, which I consider a steal considering that she's a professional and other places charge like $120 for 5 bumpy rows and plop some gel in front and call it a day. Plus, she's not a mute. She'll talk and make the time enjoyable.

Great work and a nice girl

by chardie1

I have had my share of weaves and the best stylist Ive been to lives in Atlanta, other than Shanda. I don't like my hair braided tight, and most people say they can close a full head weave but she knows how to do it right. She is very quick and professional. I found her on craigslist, and she was a great experience unlike others on cl. Also her price was higher than other stylers on there. I paid 200.00 and I will go back to her.

  • Pros: intimate, one on one, price was worth it
  • Cons: none!

Shanda did my hair extensions... She is THE BEST HANDS DOWN

by shanelly

Let me say I have had extension done by many people, and she is one of the most interesting stylists I have ever met! I went to her salon in Long Island city in 2005 for a consultation. I thought she was way too expensive so I went somewhere else to get my extensions done. I also didn't like the fact that she kept disagreeing with me about the type of extensions that were best for my hair. I wanted the glue type keratin and she suggested microlinking. Eventually she told me to find someone else to do my hair. (I got kind of heated lol) I found this person on craigslist for half the price and needless to say the job was done horribly. Her price was 300.00 included the hair which was not enough to make it as full as I like. So I went to Shanda to fix it, to add some hair to make i t fuller. That was a waste because the original hair they gave me didn't match mine at all, so I had to pay her to remove the old hair, buy new hair and start from scratch. WHATEVER GLUE ADHESIVE ( I STILL DONT KNOW TILL THIS DAY) that chick on craigslist put in my hair destroyed it. When Shanda took out what she put in WITH MICROLINKING my hair was fine. My hair from the glue fusion looked like someone chewed it up. She said the glue was just too harsh for my hair, and I should have listened. So she redid my hair, I payed 550 w/ the hair included. That was 4 years ago. She has grew my hair back, way past where it was in 2005, I had to cut it a few times to catch up to the damaged the CL girl caused but now I only add microlinks for highlights now. I will never let anyone else do my hair because the damage they cause is way more "COSTLY" than having the right person do it the right way the first time.

Let me just tell you about Shanda before you go to her. LISTEN TO HER.. she knows what she is talking about. Everything is not for everyones hair. You need to let her see your hair first. The lady on Craigslist gave me a price without seeing my hair. How the hell does she even know how much hair I need and what texture i know that NOW I should have realized that, it would have saved me some $$ AND SAVED MY HAIR. I went by her price and my hair came out jacked up.

She will also do you hair at anytime, I had to fly out to LA on a 8am flight, she did my hair at 2am the day before. She also has different prices on different days.

She will aslo travel to you. I flew her out to my work site in Atlanta once, and she travels to me in Connecticut sometimes, going to her is cheaper though.

She is not the NICEST person on the planet. It took me a minute to get used to her attitude, i HAVE TO BE HONEST. If you are late, she will let you know she is not happy about it. Then again she does so many people a day, I understand why an extra hour is a big deal to her. I came to my first appointment with all this stuff I printed out from the internet telling her what "I KNEW", and she kind of laughed me off. I though that was rude, but she was right. What I knew is how I decided the glue type of extensions where best for me and my hair got all ripped up. She is also not the meanest. She kind of has a straight forward tll it like it is personality, which can turn some people off I know it turned me off at first.

Oh yeah, I didn't realize until I had my hair done 3 times by her, if you pay cash she will give you discounts. Also i you cancel appointments she will double book your appointment next time. I was so ANGRY about this but I am not mad at her. She does her thing, when it comes down to it time is money and I respect her. I really admire when I see a young woman of color doing her thing. She is professional, fun and a PERFECTIONIST which is important to me, whoever does my hair should be a perfectionist.

  • Pros: shes fun to be around, punctual, fast
  • Cons: theres always someone before, after, or waiting dont be late

Beautiful fusion hair extensions!

by sweetbhikkhuni

I went today and got my sew-in weave taken out, and had fusion extensions put in. I brought my own hair that I bought myself.

The atmosphere in the shop was pretty pleasant, small and intimate. Felt kind of like just hanging around with people, without them asking personal questions of you--at all--which I like.

The only drawback is the location and building, but it didn't really bother me, and you get to pay a lower price than what you'd pay in Manhattan. The price of putting in the extensions was $460, not including what I spent on the actual hair itself.

I was a little miffed to leave the salon with my hair not styled the way I like it, but that's always the case for me. When I got home and did it myself: wow! What in insane improvement over my weave. I feel happy with what I see in the mirror again. I can tell the extensions are very securely in place, and very neatly done.

  • Pros: good hair, and that's all I really wanted & neighborhood is pretty pleasant
  • Cons: a little out of the way

Great Quality

by citystate212

shanda does an excellent job. i didn't buy my hair from her, but she put it in and it came out beautifully. i've been to a LOT of places throughout the years and she is the best. i'm glad i listened to these citysearch reviews. the place is annoying to get to, in my opinion, and it's not a glamorous shop, but it's clean and sanitary. don't judge a book by it's cover! the price is reasonable for the quality. she is fast once you get in the chair, but the first few times i had to wait a really long time, even with an appointment. she is very busy all the time, but she worked with me to fit me in for an important occasion. she's really professional and was nothing but nice to me. i've already recommended her to a few people. she knows what she's doing and the results are great.

  • Pros: undetectable extensions/weave, owner worked with my schedule, reasonable price
  • Cons: place it not easy to get to, very busy schedule - but that just means she's in demand for a reason!

Traveled to me, Price is Right

by meme4me

I live in Virginia Beach, and Shandra came to me in VA and LA. I travel a lot for work and she travels to me (I reimburse her travel and lodging of course) It is very hard to find someone who knows what they are doing with strand to strand extensions. I have visited the salon in New York only one time. She gets very busy on the weekends which was a negative for me, I like my 1on 1 attention, so I will continue to have her travel to me. For what she offers she is affordable, Ive had the same technique done for cheaper but ended up with a mess on my hands because it was not done properly and started to come out within a few weeks. Her extensions are the same size, and stay in for about 5 months.

  • Pros: She is an expert in extensions. I have had MANY bad experiences but not with her
  • Cons: gets busy on weekends, i dont like 2 wait

Great Extension Placement, Moderate Price

by barabiestand

Shanda is very professional. YOU MUST GO TO HER, don't let anyone else do your hair there. Been going here for over 2 years now, and very happy with my hair, its growing very nicely after I had micros done on 125th street that ripped out my edges. Over the last two years there have been ALOT of staff changes, which is one bad thing I noticed here but I always go to the owner. My hair is in great shape which is important to me, some people want to wear weaves for ever, I need my hair to still be healthy when I take the weave out. DO NOT GO TO ANYONE OTHER THAN THE OWNER is my suggestion the other people that work there aren't half as good as her, she just knows hair, knows weave and the proper placement to make it look like its yours.PERIOD.

  • Pros: Shes good, fun environment, knows many different techniques, alot of trains go there
  • Cons: weekend appointments hard to get, sometimes have to wait

hair done very well, one of the best extensions Ive had so far

by Brasiliagirl

I must admit, I am a hair salon hopper. If someone does my hair badly i will not got back. I was confused about the pricing at first but it was explained to me, the smaller you wanted your hair done, the less detectable it would be, the longer it would take and more it would cost. Went in for the consultation, the stylists was very educated in the different extension types. She found a texture that matched my hair which I liked. There was a young lady there trying to argue with the stylist that she wanted to put in silky hair, and the girls hair looked like a brillo pad. I appreciate a person who will be honest about what looks natural and what does not. Anyway, the girl insisted that silky hair be put into her no where near shiny/silky coarse hair. the stylist warned her this would not look natural. I found this to be very odd because A natural look is very important to me and that is what I got. It is very sad when black people want to believe their hair texture is anything other than what it is. I am glad she picked the hair that looked natural on me, I got the fusion type at 500.00 and that included my hair. Unlike other extension places I've been to she actually knew how to cut and style hair as well. I will be going back to her again.

  • Pros: knows alot about hair weaves and extensions, I get alot of compliments
  • Cons: can get lost easily in the area, parking is difficult

Avoid at all costs

by mzclr

Terrible experience overall:

Location: Inconvenient to get to if you do not have a car. They are often late and if they are not there, you must wait outside of a warehouse in a remote location. Personnel: More lies: these "stylists" are untrained in hair and customer service. I paid $700 to have large obvious extensions installed by a novice. When I tried to have the problem fixed, my calls were ignored. I had to go to work for a couple of weeks with sloppy hair until I could find someone else to remove the extensions! NO sense of customer service at all.

Professionalism: extremely unprofessional. They try to pass off fake YAK hair as human hair and charge you for it. Do not trust them. PLEASE buy and bring your own hair!

Overall: AVOID this sham of a salon for your professional, mental and financial health

  • Pros: easy to get to by car
  • Cons: Unprofessional attitudes, evasive when needed and dishonest about the hair

Good stylist... bad parking, great weave

by ronnyronny

LEAVE A DEPOSIT. Otherwise you go on a list. I was very pleased with the service I received there. The two stylists who worked on me were very friendly and worked very quickly. Only one stylist cuts and styles everyone but she is very good. I got a great leangths weave for 500.00 with the hair. My cousin came with me and got a full head with tracks for about 200 I think. I dont like tracks but I was surprised how flat and good the top looked, and it wasn't fake looking. I went on a saturday but the owner gives discounts for weekdays. If I knew this I would have took off from work.

  • Pros: clean, many ways to do your hair, happy place, professional
  • Cons: parking, limited seats
