best tanning i've found in nyc

I really am a big fan of this tanning salon. It is unassuming from the outside amongst all the bars and restaurants on 3rd Ave. I never noticed it until my roommate raved about it. I had to see what the hype was about. I am not tanning obsessed, but I look ridiculous without any color on my skin. I started off with their "360" bed with an Italian name. Loved it. I have since tried most of their new beds and am happy every time. I even spray tan when i am in need of some insta-color. I would def recommend getting one of their packages. They always have a sale and it ends up being way cheaper than paying each time you go.

• Pros: new machines, spray tanning option
• Cons: not open 24 hours, gets busy

Recommended Tanning on the East Side

I found this place through my gym, Club H. They were there giving spray tans and teeth whitening. I thought it was a little cheesy at first, but I chatted with the general manager and he was actually so down to earth and friendly. I came in to check it out and was impressed by the color I got after one session in their "2pt" bed. They were running a summer sale which was a pretty good deal. It ended up being like $18 for tanning in their best machines. The outside isn't fancy and they can be packed right after work, but other than that--it is a great find and I would recommend it to my friends.

• Pros: high pressure machines, summer sales
• Cons: can be busy after work

pleased with teeth whitening

I always walked by Portofino and recently noticed their sign advertising teeth whitening. I have been meaning to whiten my teeth for a while, but I wasn't sure how good it would be at a tanning place. I was actually impressed with the results.

1) I came in and filled out some paperwork-nothing crazy-dental history, contact info etc.

2) The technician took me back and set me up in a room in a chair-where i stayed for an hour.

3) She talked me through the procedure, gave me protecting stuff for my gums and lips, slapped a bib and goggles on me and gave a mouthpiece with gel in it.

4) I napped for 20 minutes while this blue light whitened my teeth.

5)repeat X3

6) I rinsed my mouth out, brushed-up my teeth, and walked away with teeth 5 shades lighter.

Overall-it was clean, the girl was friendly and the teeth stuff worked well. I guess I give 4 stars instead of 5 because it is done by technician, not a doctor and it IS in a tanning salon. otherwise-i liked it.

quality tanning salon-long time client

me and my wife have been going there for 7 years and enjoy the atmosphere and friendly staff as well as the fact we can nearly always tan at the same time because they have many rooms.. just glad we found a site to say thanks and keep it up.

quality tanning place

I found this place from my gym Club H. They were running a promo giving away free spray tans. I was a little nervous about trying it for the first time, so I decided to stop by the store and see the tanning machines instead. I admit, i didn't know much about tanning, but the gal at the desk was chill and gave me the run down. I signed up for their summer special and already have a pretty good base tan after 3 tans. I don't normally do these online things, but I honestly felt like these people went out of their way to ease me into the tanning thing. I can appreciate good service, ya know?

• Pros: effective tanning beds, tanning lotions, convenient location
• Cons: none-yet

buy one and get another free

I have been struggling to find a decent tanning salon in the city. what is UP nyc!? I heard about Portofino, but thought they were always too expensive. I just went in to check it out and the girl at the desk offered me a buy one get one free to try out their machines. I used this spaceship looking crazy bed and was pretty impressed! I feel like it usually takes 3 times for me to see anything, but this one got me brown with frying my skin. I am still debating what to do about packages, hopefully the real sun will come out. but until then--i am totes into this place and their crazy cool beds.

• Pros: 1st time freebie
• Cons: no free lotion with session

UV-free tanning is great

Long story short--i can't tan with UV rays anymore. this kills me though because I look soo much better with a little tan. My doc recommended that I try spray tanning. I went to a different location first and had a horrible orange streaky tan, so I was scared to try it again. Luckily, my friend sent me to Portofino to try their airbrushes. I was having a fat day and did not feel like standing with my clothes on in front of a stranger for the sake of a tan. BUT i sucked it up (literally) and LOVED the results! Every now and then if I need a morning tan I will come in for the machine, but my favorite is the airbrush!

• Cons: can't regular tan anymore

Legit Place with Good Business

I went into this place last week just to check it out and loved it. The owner was there and he took me on a tour of the place and worked with my budget to figure out a package. I can tan now, affordable-y, and feel like this guy is looking out for my best interests. The machine I went in was very effective!

best in murray hill

I am so mad that I wasted my money tanning at other places that gave me NO color. Ew. I heart this tanning salon like no other. I have tried almost every machine (except the standing ones--i am too lazy) and every now and then i spray tan. The boy at the desk is my favorite and I admit I sometimes stop by just to see him. But seriously, the tanning there rocks!! I am not a tanorexic, but I know my tanning and without badmouthing my former place, I can honestly say that this place is the best tanning salon in murray hill. They always have sales too, be sure to stock up during their good sales times. The only con i have is they don't allow 2 sessions in a day. They say it is illegal, but my previous tanning place let me.

Dark Tan That Is Not Expensive - I don't think!

This place rocks! I heard it was the best. Didn't think it would be cheap. But it was! I mean, I only paid $49 for a student package! For 5 tans! Uhhh.... that is AWESOME. I don't know if you guys all know about tanning in nyc, but its usually so much money! This was great deal.
