Great cupcakes sold by witches
by cnstar1224 at Citysearch
So I looked online for a bakery near my job so that I could get a dozen copcakes for a coworker's retirement. I came across reviews for Cheek's which said how rude the service was, but I read other reviews which said how AWSOMELY GOOD the cupcakes are. I thought the service can't possibly be that bad! Oh I was sooooo wrong. Its actually comical because it is so bad, it is almost unbelieveable. I walked in and the woman behind the counter looked at me like I was not supposed to be there. Then she ignored me and walked AWAY!!! I waited for service and when she finally came out she was the biggest grump in the world!! She was annoyed that I wanted them in a box (I have no idea what my other option would be). She didn't say "can I help you?". Instead she just stared at me. There was no "thank you" or smiles or "have a good day". The cupcakes truly were very good though. So, if you can stand the rudeness without getting insulted, it is worth it. Otherwise, do not go!
- Pros: Very good cupcakes; elegant looking deserts
- Cons: Attitude, attitude, attitude. It's BAD!!!
Worst NY Service EVER
by diapasonster at Citysearch
I just had a conversation with a friend where we talked about the worst food service we've ever encountered in New York. For me, it was Cheeks. The bakery owner is, as others have pointed out, unbelievably rude. I dealt with it for a while because I wanted to support a small local bakery. But then one day I went in and experienced the last straw. I was buying a piece of cake and wanted it to go. The person at the counter had offered to put it in a box for me. On my way out the door, the owner came out from the back where she lurks and shouted, "Why can't you just eat your cake in here? We can't afford wasting boxes." After I gave her a look of disbelief, she snarled, "Don't look at me that way." Pretty much the harshest buzz I've ever gotten in a bakery. The cake was sweet, but not sweet enough. I'm never going back.
- Pros: convenient location
- Cons: shrew of an owner
WOW! How Rude!
by jelybeans80 at Citysearch
Now, I'm not one to write bad reviews. Except I have to for this place...just have to warn everyone! I can handle a not very friendly person or moody etc but WOW...lol this individual is just down right unpleasant. I'm at a loss for words altogether. There pastries are good but honestly I don't want to give my money to a store that doesn't appreciate my business. So no matter how good the treat, there are a million bakeries around WillyBurg....sorry I hope your attitude improves!
- Pros: in my Neighborhood & Good Pizza next door (and they are nice)
- Cons: no people skills.....they could atleast fake it! NO Parking either.
Cute as pie husband- and wife-owned bakery in Williamsburg serves cookies, pastries and sweetbreads with a girly touch.

In Short
Opened in 2005 and named for its pastry chef's childhood nickname, Cheeks is a loveable little Brooklyn bakeshop. Pink accents abound here as everything--from the take away boxes to the ribbon-tied, cellophane wrapped snacks--seem frosted in the baby girl hue. A vast, rotating (and seasonal) menu keeps things cooking for guests of either sex, though. Thick (9-inches!) breakfast quiche, quickbreads, brownies, seasonal pies and tarts, specialty cupcakes, and luscious birthday cakes cover the baking bases. The fact that they make all their dishes with organic and locally grown produce only serves to sweeten the deal. (Photo courtesy: cakespy.com)
Horrible Attitude, Rude Owner, Mediocre Cupcakes
by jeshazard at Citysearch
I was so excited when Cheeks opened a few years ago, because I'm a cupcake fanatic and was happy to see a bakery within walking distance to my house. I've been in maybe a dozen times over the past few years. The cupcakes are decent, but there is a serious lack of variety. What bothers me more than anything is the HORRIBLE attitude I've always received. At first, I was willing to let it slide, thinking maybe someone was having a bad day, they were tired, etc. However, recently, a friend tried to pick up some cupcakes (after having called in advance, mind you) and was told to "shut up" and belittled by the owner/baker. The owner then took some of the cupcakes that were in a box out of her hand and said "No cupcakes for you". That's the last straw. I'm all about supporting local businesses, and especially local bakeries....but there is something to be said about service, and their lack of and blatant disregard for their customer's happiness, means that I refuse to ever spend another dime in there again. And neither will any of my friends. It's a bakery. You're making happy sugary things. SMILE, for goodness sake! I'd rather schlep to the LES and go to Sugar Sweet Sunshine and know I will have quality, variety, and everyone will always make me feel welcome there.
- Pros: walking distance
- Cons: perpetually rude.
Evil bakeress
by billyburgette at Citysearch
I've worked in pizza places, restaurants, coffee shops, you name it. I know how tough the industry is, and I'm almost infinitely tolerant of rude service. But the woman who owns Cheeks is unforgivable. She's one of those people who's boiling with rage and seems perpetually on the brink of losing her sh*t. Ask her about an ingredient, and she subjects you to a trembling diatribe on your bad taste and ignorance. Ask her if you can have a second chocolate chip cookie, please, and she shrieks, "No! You can't! I don't have any more, okay?" The best cupcakes on earth (which these are not) wouldn't justify an encounter with this haggard troll. My sincere sympathy goes out to her counter boy/husband.
- Pros: handy wburg location
- Cons: terrifying harridan behind the counter
best baked goods!!
by chuv at Citysearch
i was told the cupcakes @ cheeks measured up to the cupcakes from the famed magnolia bakery in the city...actually, it's even better! you can taste the love and hardwork that was put into her cupcakes, not like the over-rated cupcakes from magnolia which has frosting overload!
the cupcake at cheeks has just the right amount of frosting, and the overall sweet-ness of her cupcake and cake is just perfect...genius! what a magician in her kitchen! one can't get enough of her sea salt espresso cookies as well as her ginger krinkle cookies. this is only the beginning, i highly recommend this bakery, it's more than substantial.
- Pros: magical bakery, you taste the love and magic she creates in her goods.
- Cons: baker can be sometimes too serious, come across as harsh over counter, but you taste her heart in her food
