Their meats are not Qualiity, everything else is though.
by dhnyc
I would give this restaurant 1 star if it weren't for their awesome appetizers, side dishes, and ice cream. If they had the steaks to match, that would be easily a 4-5 star restaurant. However, the filet was chewy and poorly prepared. The inside was raw (I ordered medium) but the outside was already so charred and chewy that I didn't dare send it back for further brutality. If you've already been to the other high end steak houses in NYC several times and want to try something new, go to Quality Meats. But if you want something for a special occasion or if you're not yet tired of the other NYC steak houses, skip Quality Meats. You'll find better filets at Outback.
If you do go, skip the Parmesan fries, they're nothing special. The corn creme brulee was great. I cannot recommend the crab cake strongly enough. Best part of the meal.
- Pros: Side dishes and appetizers (crab cake!), service, ambiance
- Cons: Poor quality filet
Cool-looking for Staekhouse
by lou16
I found our waitress just short of rude.
She seemed openly annoyed by my questions and impatient.
And I most especially didn’t like them putting their hands on
the top of my glass to make room on the table.
Not only did we get their germy hands on the top of our glasses …
they mixed up the glasses so that we had to guess which one was which.
I also never saw the wine bottle nor the water bottle to see if we
had drank it all. That is unusual.
My salad was nearly impossible to eat in the bowl that it came in.
The chopped salad was probably fine .. but there was no way to cut
up the lettuce in the bowl and it was much too large to get into
my mouth. I just gave up and quit trying to eat it.
My steak had virtually no flavor. If I didn’t have the au poivre sauce,
I wouldn’t have eaten it.
The bread was excellent and the parmesan fries were good and the
blueberry tart was good, asparagus was okay … not great.
Even if my filet would have been cooked properly … it would have still been
the worst filet that I even had a nice restaurant. In fact, the Longhorn
Restaurant chain filet’s are even better than what we ate at Quality Meats.
Definitely not worth what we paid for the dinner.
Didn’t hate it … but did hate that it cost so much for such an average dinner
- Pros: Nice vibe
- Cons: service and steaks
Served up fatty Veal Chops
by Boychicklach
The good: Cool ambience
The bad: 4 of us just went there last night. 3 of us ordered the veal chop (all medium rare). When we finally got them, all 3 were cooked medium well to well done so we sent them back.
The ugly: 30-40 mins later after we got round 2, they were all "rare", barely edible and had to be the 3 fattiest pieces of meat that they probably carved away for the night and labeled as "not for use". We learnt our lesson and should have stuck with the well done original portions that we received. Abruch!
- Pros: Good ambience
- Cons: Cant quite get their meat cooked right
Great for Reunions

Had a blast here! All the fixings of a top-notch NYC steakhouse, a butcher who knows what he's doing, but a relaxing laid-back attitude that makes you feel right at home ie: PBR tall cans on the drinks menu. Met up here with a bunch of old college friends and we were back to our old shenanagins in no time. Ample seating and good spacing gives you the comfort to speak freely without thinking that half of manhattan is listening in to your conversation.
- Pros: fun environment, amazing steak
- Cons: menu could've had better descriptions
The best of All

Quality meats is simply fantastic, from the bone in rib-eye to the milk chocolate torte with homemade vanilla ice cream there is nothing bad about this restaurant. the General Manager Mauriceo is the perfect manager for any restaurant to have and the staff is great. they make a homemade steak sauce right at your table that you can't stop eating, it is good on everything including the steaks but the steaks are perfectly cooked and seasoned so you might just want to dip your rolls into it. our suggestion is not to waste your money on any other restaurant this have everything you could possibly want.
- Pros: Thumbs up
- Cons: I wish we had one here
Wonderful!

I was a bit nervous eating here, given the recent bad reviews, but my friend was treating me for my bday so what did i have to lose? Anyways, so glad I picked it cuz I loved it! I thought everything was great! Decor was fine, service was nice, and food was great.
I had the crab & avocado for appetizer, they give you 3 and it was good. My friend had the bone marrow and liked it too. For entree I had the filet mignon, medium rare, and thought it was tender and flavorful (more so with the sauce, gives it a lil spicy peppery kick). We also had corn creme brulee and edamame as sides, both also very good. I've been to other steak places where the meat is either too dry or its not cooked to the right way you ask for it, etc. I had no problems here. I would def come back to have steak again, or try other things on the menu.
Totally recommend it !!
- Pros: Steak, service
- Cons: none
Avoid Quality Meats
by VeryDisappointing
I spent a week trying to find a restaurant for a special occasion. After asking around, a few friends suggested Quality Meats. While none of them had actually eaten at the restaurant, they had all heard good things. After showing up for an 8:00pm seating, the waitress immediately began to try and turn us over, trying to take our wine, appetizer and main dish orders simultaneously. Apparently she didn't recognize the restaurant was half empty (on a Friday night at 8:00pm this should have immediately tipped us off as to the experience we were about to have). When the waitress brought the wine to the table she did not ask the person who ordered to taste the wine, instead just picked someon at random from the table (this was repeated with the next bottle as well). We then had to either flag down someone to fill our glasses or just take care of our own glasses. The oysters and appetizers were good, especially the gnocchi and cheese. Of the four diners, we all ordered a different steak, but the result was the same. We were all disappointed. The steaks were mis-cooked and the flavor was non-existent. Leaving half-eaten steaks must be normal here though, because even though we were seated immediately in front of the kitchen entrance in a high traffic area (unclear why they would place us here because as I mentioned the restaurant was half-empty), not one employee seemed to take notice and ask if anything was wrong. We have all had a bad steak, or poor service, at other NYC steakhouses, but what is unique about Quality Meats and noteworthy was the ability to combine BOTH bad food AND poor service.
- Pros: Decor
- Cons: Everything else
Very Disappointing
by BS212
First time I've posted a restaurant review, but had to comment on a generally negative experience I had here. It was especially disappointing because the dinner was to commemorate an important occassion and I'd spent some time thinking about where to go.
Though no aspect of the meal was outright awful, the food was mediocre (despite the name, the steak was decidedly low-quality; at a table of four guys, no one finished their meat) and the service was weak, as our waitress was disorganized and forgetful. The ambiance had the potential to be great, but the restaurant's lack of a clear dress code found well-dressed diners seated next to tables wearing cargo shorts and birkenstocks. I hate to be a snob, but for the cost of this meal ($700 for a party of four), I think diners definitely deserve more.
If you're up for a pricey steak, I'd recommend BLT Steak or Wolfgang's - Quality Meats has a long way to go before it can compete - or justify its price tag.
Most disappointing NYC steakhouse experience ever
by flashfootball
This was the most disappointing NYC steakhouse experience that I have had in my 15+ years living in Manhattan. I got the bone in sirloin prepared medium which was delivered to our table medium rare. The steak was bland tasting with no flavor and no crispiness on the outside. One of our other dining companions got the 3 mini filets each with a different sauce preparation. These were ordered medium as well and arrived at the table medium well and looked like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for 15+ minutes -- a grayish tint to the filets. The other problem we had was that we ordered an $80 bottle of wine and had to pour all but the first glass ourselves while at least 4 wait staff members lingered in our dining section. I expected at least good steaks from this place as it is part of the Smith & Wollensky family (you can never tell about side dishes - they were ok here - especially the Gnocchi & Cheese and edamame) but they weren't in the same class as Sparks, Luger's, Keens, Capital Grille, Ben Benson's or Striphouse. The homemade ice creams were excellent.
- Pros: side dishes, dessert, ambiance
- Cons: steaks, service
Wonderful food -- nice for a group
by jamor
I love this restaurant. The steaks are great, fun appetizers, attentive staff... I've had a better time when it was a group of people, rather than just two, as the tables for two are a bit cramped. Last time we went it was a birthday celebration, I told them in advance and they served us generous glasses of a very good sparkling Italian wine, gratis, as soon as we were seated. Very nice touch. I'm not sure I can wholeheartedly recommend the marrow, though. I was excited to try them but after a few tastes it just seemed overwhelmingly greasy and I actually felt a little sick to my stomach. But aside from that, great restaurant. Really fun place to take visitors to NYC!
