Very Nice atmosphere and great staff!

Me and my friends threw a 30th birthday get together for My sister. With the help of Ed Van Ess, who was super easy to work with and very attentive. It was a really nice experience the staff was awesome and we really enjoyed our time there. The DJ was live and it was a great night. Thanks Edward Van Ess and Katra for making my sisters birthday special.

Not Friendly

I would have given this place no stars if I could but citysearch does not allow that. From the moment myself and my girlfriends got to the door we knew things were not going to go to plan. We had a guestlist set up and arrived at 11.14 to be told by the door managerthat we had to pay $20 to get in . All of us were dressed perfectly and there were no guys with us. I told the doorman bouncer guy that I lived around the corner and had come here all the time. I was rudely told that was not his problem and he said name one of the staff if I was from around the corner that I would no someone. I said we set up a list with Elyse and she said it was free till 12 but he said she was wrong. I told him we were going to spend at the bar but he was not having it. He said if we dont pay cover that we would have to spend 200 dollars at the bar and I would have to give my credit card. I asked the big security guy who is always there for help and he said he would call the manager. We waited for 15 minutes and no manager came at which we decided that this was dump looking at all the very unatractive people that were entering while we stood outside. We were not going to spend Saturday Nite outside this place so we gave up and walked accross the street to r-Bar where we had a great nite. THANKS KATRA FOR NOTHING

Depends on the day you go

Went a few months ago, I had no issue getting in the club.. Very nice spot and cozy.. A bit tight and packed but thats pretty much every where you go. The drink were off course a bit pricey but this is the city and it was a saturday when I went. Staff seemed fun, girl where pretty but there was one with long hair, tan skin.. Not sure if she was spanish or from the carribean. she was a bit rude and seem like she couldnt handle the bar alone. When my guest and I ask for service she was rude and at times ignored us. I ended up going to the different floor. Service was the complete opposite and great...over all it was good. I guess everyone is allowed a bad day.

Severely underrated! Had my birthday here, which I booked thru the venue itself, All of my guests and myself had an awesome time. I reserved one of their cabanas next to the VIP, an area which I thought was going to be a lot smaller than what the pics on the website show, but it was actually bigger than I expected. I was treated very VIP though by the manager Edwardo. As soon as I arrived outside at the door, he was by the line trying to see who was with who. When I told him I had a reservation for my bday he said "ok, which one are you?" Lots of bdays going on that night. He had what would be our waitress for the rest of the night come out and escort me and my guests to my table. The music was freakin awesome, great mixing of top 40 hits from Usher to Gaga, I was in heaven! Danced all night long. And the good times kept comin as the liquor kept flowin! My friends raved at my choice of venue.

So the place gets crowded and the bottles are a little pricey…BIG DEAL! Welcome to New York people! Good times, can't wait to go again

Fun Birthday :)

i came to Katra for a friends birthday and i have to say this spot was really cool . the staff was cool the DJ was good he played a little bit of everything. the drinks were on point and they also had pretty good happy hour and drink specials all nite long . their food was good . they also have hookah which is cool . i had such a blasts cant wait to come back here again . i liked the fact the owner was there roaming around making sure everyone was having a blast and checking in on the bartenders to make sure they were on point which is good the last thing u hate is to wait for a bartender to get a drink lol . the decor was so cute it had a Moroccan vibe place is clean and there are plenty of places to lounge around . the crowd was interesting it was a mixture of everyone which is different . the only issue I had was that I surprised my friend with a bday cake and they no longer allow cakes  so we didn’t get to cut the cake, but they did bring it out and present her with it so that was nice. Overall pretty cool spot and Im actually thinking about doing my bday here.

Hey ive been here 2 times first time i had no clue there was a downstairs to this place lol...My times here were great. The ladies i was with got in for free there was just a $10.00 cover charge for guys. Ummm we got there @ like 2am on one of my visits and the party was still going on. My friend didn’t like the music and wanted more pop/house mixed in…we just opened the door by the dj and asked him within five minutes we had what we wanted. I only had beer ...cant mess a beer up lol my friends that had the cocktails said they were strong but taste good. Overall pretty fun time, no complaints.

A Terrible Experience

This past weekend was my first (and last) time at Katra. The music started off very redundant but eventually got better as more people arrived. It is a very small and narrow space so moving around was nearly impossible. The drinks are SUPER expensive ($36 for 3 drinks, one of which was non-alcoholic; and a bottle of water was $5). The worst part, however, came when I was harassed by a bouncer for taking my shoes off. He flashed his light in my face like I was some criminal; and even though I complied with his demand that I put my shoes back on, I was still told I had to leave. Since I had already been there for quite some time, I didn't resist. Even so, as I made my way to the exit, the bouncer (a very large man) forcefully pushed me from behind causing me to fly into the wall! I was so shocked and upset that I called the authorities. The general manager, who I thought would at least reprimand the guy, instead summarily dismisses my complaint.

For someone who rarely goes out, I was so appalled by my experience and yet I know that bouncers get away with this kind of behavior all the time. I think it's unfortunate and unacceptable that Katra condones such disrespect and abuse by its personnel.
