Great cut, color, blowouts, manis, and pedis

by ysolde at Citysearch

I have been going to the salon on Fifth Avenue regularly for about two years now. My hair looks fantastic! Every senior stylist has given me incredible haircuts.

Georges does my color, and he is a genius. When I first went to him, my hair was just recovering from a bad colorist at another Fifth Avenue salon -- she had literally fried my hair, and a whole section had fallen out as a result. Once the hair grew back in, after much care and pampering from Fekkai's stylists, Georges started working on my color. It has looked fantastic ever since -- the right shade for my skin, glossy, just perfect.

Go see Manana or Fal fro an eyebrow wax -- you won't regret it! And sit back for a mani or a pedi that is heaven-sent.

BTW, they no longer charge for beverages, so feel free to sip a cup of tea while the staff makes you beautiful . . .

  • Pros: Excellent service
  • Cons: Can be hectic

Overpriced, Overrated!

by divarani at Citysearch

For what you get, this Salon is over-rated. The stylists are ok. The first time I went to Brandon, I was somewhat satisfied but each time thereafter it has been a disappointment. They only know how to give one cut on long hair. The pretentious and abnoxious attitudes becomes a real turnoff after the first visit. The sylists are always running late and aren't very personable. And if I'm paying $160 for a haircut, I do expect not to be charged $5 for a perrier! On top of that the stylist doesn't even blowdry your hair, there's an assistant. So by the time you're done paying for your mediocre hair cut, you're out $200+ after paying for the haircut, the water, and tipping the stylist, the shampoo person and the assistant.

  • Pros: location
  • Cons: expensive, bad service

Last week I went to Frederic Fekkai for the first time and I had the most amazing experience. Jacklyn did my

color and Amy cut my hair and It never looked better. Everyone was friendly from the housekeepers to the managers. The salon was beautiful and I highly recommend anyone to go. I know I will be returning for sure!!!

  • Pros: friendly staff, talented staff and amazing service

Terrible Experience...

by crsmnyc at Citysearch

I am someone who has gone to some of the best salons in the city and I would have to say that despite the lovely decor at Fekkai the service was the worst and the color job I had done was not worth the money. I would also advise that you ask about additional charges as they truly nickle and dime at this salon which is surprising for an upscale salon. I paid $2.75 for a diet coke which was offered to me..and then after recieving a terrible blowdry by my colorist assistant I was also charged.

I really would recommend walking up the block to Vidal Sasoon or over a few blocks to Bumble and Bumble before spending your money here.

  • Pros: Great Decor
  • Cons: Charges for "extras" (ie. Diet Coke), Poor service, Poor color treatment

Wake up idiots!

by acf123 at Citysearch

You people are soooo stupid. The place is most likely full of good stylists- it is the business that is at fault. They run on 15 minute appointments for a haircut- stylists ideally work on hourly appointments. That is why you are rushed, get dodgy service and why they are always running behind and are stressed. A famous UK stylist married an American and went to work there- stayed for a day and walked, she was used to having hourly appointments. You get pampered, no rush and a magic haircut. This person has since been America's Hairdresser of the Year, more than once. Who is right?

Is it place to be seen or good service you want?

Do yourself a favour and look further afield unless all you really want is to be seen with "Z" list celebrities- if so get a life.

Eyebrows

by aelistie at Citysearch

The best brow waxing I have ever had is with Manana, recommended to me by a friend. She is no nonsense about her job, arches beautifully and cleans up your brows to perfection. She's a "senior eyebrow specialist", which is a snooty way of saying you'll pay around $50; however, brows can make a face, and she is the best!!!

  • Pros: Manana waxes like nobody's business

best salon in NY!

by ralifun at Citysearch

I went to Frederic Fekkai for the first time about six months ago. I recieved great service and a fantastic haircut from Giovanni. He was proffesional and not to mention very handsome. Since then I have returned several times to both the 5th avenue and soho locations for blowdries. I reccomend Nicole in Soho and Hana in 5th ave for great blowdries. I read all the other reviews on here and I think everyone doesn't know good hair when they see it. I have had nothing but great service from everyone in both locations, including the managers.

  • Pros: friendly staff
  • Cons: busy salon on 5th ave

go elsewhere

by ilcdg at Citysearch

I gave it an extra star because of the free apple. I had a manicure scheduled with Alexandra and not only did they forget about me, I sat there for an hour and a half and no one asked me if I needed anything. Ultimately they made me leave without my manicure because Alex was already booked!!!!!!!!! I told them unless I get a gift certificate for a free manicure next time I could not come back, They said no, but they could give me a free bottle of Hair Shine worth about 10 bucks...gimme a break.

  • Pros: in Bendels
  • Cons: too expensive neighborhood for service given

Awful Experience

by miles13 at Citysearch

I have been desperately searching for a hair cut in NYC ever since I moved here about one month ago. I have heard mixed reviews about Frederic Fekkai, but they had convenient hours, and I know the salon is very reputable, so i figured, it couldn't be bad. When I got there, I told my stylist exactly what I wanted and it seemed like we were on the same page. They spent about 4 minutes washing my hair...and about the same time cutting it...all while I was standing up. After all was said and done, I was $200 dollars down, and walked out looking EXACTLY the same as I did when I walked in. When I complained to my stylist, and told him I wanted him to do more, he refused, and then pushed me out the door. The atmosphere there is so pretentious, they don't care about you, or your wants or needs, and I left feeling extremely. I would normally not be interested in writing any sort of review, but this experience was so bad, I felt I had no choice. Go somewhere else.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Awful service, inexperienced staff, too expensive

Soho Salon

by tande25 at Citysearch

Every POOR review is CORRECT. I have NEVER in my life (of salons) been treated so badly and my hair is a mess. I went to the Soho salon and have been going to Jamie. He had me in tears and burnt my hair.
