VERY DISAPPOINTED

by rubicks13

Honestly I was waiting 2 years to visit this cart. Today was the day as I had training uptown a few blocks from the legendary hallo berlin brat cart. Got there around noon only a few deep. Prices went WAY up!!!! I think that this has fallen into one of the NYC classifications of "tourist trap". I ordered the "Freakin Deal" 1 brat with onions, cabbage mustard, 1 meatball and cold potato salad with no mayo and a little roll. Roll was great, brat was decent there is a german butcher around the corner from me that the brats where much better. Meatball was amazing. Put me back $7.50. I left hungry and grabbed a slice on the way back to the building. Overall very disappointed if the prices were like they were 2 years ago, then may be worth it. They have a special 2 sandwiches for $10. I still think that's overpriced. Ideally they should be priced around $3.50. Would not go back to this cart too many other good carts in the area.

  • Pros: great roll
  • Cons: prices are sky rocketing, turning into tourist trap!

good food, but not worth the wait

by h1ghroller25

the food is good, but you have to waste about half hour to get it during your lunch....no cart food or fast food is worth waiting that long for. Also its expensive for street food.

  • Pros: food
  • Cons: long wait, price considering its street food

Great food if you have the time

by sunil481

Great place to get lunch when you're not in a rush, or if you're eating a late lunch. The bratwurst, currywurst and smoked-cheese bratwurst are amazing. So are the German fries. The other sausages are also pretty good. It's a tiny bit expensive ($9.00 for a two-sausage combo) but a better deal than many bland lunches which cost about the same. The only drawback is the slow line; it's never really long, it just takes a lot of time for each customer. I've timed it actually, and you can estimate about 2 minutes per person. At peak times there's 10-20 people waiting (20-40 minute wait) but if you go after 2:00 you'll barely have to wait at all.

The best wurst

by keithwags

This is a grrrreat place for a midtown lunch. Piles of hot sausage, covered in delicious sauces and saurkraut, served by friendly Germans. What else do you want?

  • Pros: delicious sausage
  • Cons: the line

An authentic German bratwurst cart that even has the German tourists impressed.

by Erin Behan

There's no mistaking which street cart belongs to Rolf and Wolfgang Babiel--it's the one smelling of delectable sausage with a trailing 20-person line. Ten types of sausage await, among them bratwurst, kielbasa, and knockwurst--and if you're feeling indecisive try the Dictator's Special, which allows no choice whatsoever. Get the sausages sliced and then topped with fried potatoes and a red-wine sauerkraut and fried onions--the mix of toppings forms a tangy sauce to complement the meat.
