by marceanohutc
This is my third suit form la rukico I must say that I will never buy any suit again!! I waste my time and money ........
Very entertaining & good food
by JjackBaker87
My previous Italian tailor retired so I was in the market for a new one. Mr Kelly was recommended to me by my attorney, so I ordered a custom suit and 2 shirts and was highly impressed with the quality, fit and style. It's refreshing to find another old school tailor who is reliable and skilled.
Best Tailor in NYC
by Mindease
On his website it reads “Mr. Kelly is a timeless style coach who will mentor you through the process of making you a suit.” In my case that sentence fits perfectly, I purchase my first custom suit 11yrs ago for my first real job right out of college. I visited several retail stores prior to my meeting with Mr. Kelly, they showed me no particular attention and some literally ignored me. Out of frustration I yahooed ‘tailors in nyc’ (google wasn’t yet available back then). Hong Kong tailors/La Rukico pop up, so I made a visit.
Upon arriving Mr. Kelly was extremely professional, he informed me of the differences in suit styles and fabrics. A complete measurement and picture of my body structure was taken by his skilled staff. I originally ordered one suit and 3 custom shirts on my first visit. Since then I have ordered 6 additional custom made suits and over 20 shirts. Simply put Mr. Kelly is” the best tailor in NYC period.”

Best Custom Tailor in New York
by Michael JT
I recently purchased and received four suits and nine shirts from Mr. Kelly at La Rukico Custom Tailors.
First, the merchandise arrived ahead of schedule, fit like a glove right out of the box and, maybe most importantly, felt great. Furthermore, the suit/shirt combinations Mr. Kelly helped me put together turned out beautifully. Mr. Kelly was also instrumental in choosing the liners for each suit, which looked great.
I have been to more than one custom tailor and Mr. Kelly is by far the best. The quality and fit of his clothing is excellent, as is his sense of style and customer service.
I now own five Mr. Kelly suits, the four new ones and one that I purchased in the past. Given my most recent experience I am sure it won't be long before I own five more.
- Pros: Great quality, fit, value and service
Very well done!

- Pros: Great fabric, Great fit, Great service
They tailored my Macy's suit when Macy's wouldn't
by Ted Ferenczy
I recently got a suit as a gift for a friends wedding. I'm one of the groomsmen, and the groom had a great idea: "Hey! I should buy groomsmen matching suits for the wedding! It'll be cool and will double as a party favor." So he bought us all identical Tommy suits from Macy's. Very nice of him.
The trouble is I'm 6'6" tall. I usually wear 36" length pants. We went to Macy's, tried on suit jackets and found what fitted before my buddy ordered suits for all of us. He ordered the largest suit pants he could find for me. The trouble is that Tommy only makes 34" length When i got the suit the jacket fit right but the pants looked like I had grown out of them in 8th grade.
When I brought the suit to a Macy's and tried it on for the tailor and the salesman they just looked at me and sighed. "Call Tommy. Maybe he made some extra-long pants once and has surplus lying around." I called Tommy. Checked his website. Checked Macy's website, checked all kinds of websites. Nothing. I started looking for similar fabrics because I thought I was going to have to have a custom suit made.
I brought it in to la rukico. They didn't exactly jump out of their chairs to help me, but the tailor had me try it on, took some measurements and said "We'll do what we can." They called me back in 2 weeks and the pants were long enough, i could sit down while wearing them and I was a happy camper.
- Pros: tailored my suit pants well
- Cons: none for me
WORST TAILOR IN NYC
by TerribleTailor
I am going to list a handful of my favorite Kelly quotes. Take them as you may - you decide whether you want this kind of business relationship...
- "I have 65,000 customers, I dont need any more!"
- "You're lying. You dont know what you're talking about - I know my materials this shirt is not from this year."
- "A hole in the sleeve is not problem."
- After 5 weeks - "Mr. 'So &So' you've gained 3.5" on your waist I could not have made 2 separate suit pants wrong."
Without going on a complete diatribe about this horrible business/owner here are a few important comments....
Kelly is rude, abrasive, a manipulator and a liar. After 6-years of going to this man to have suits and shirts made he progressively got more and more comfortable. He is 65-yrs old and frankly his head is NOT in the game and only wants to mill people out for the their money.
Each visit you are treated like its the first time you walked in there. "Last trade mentality" As it is referred to on Wall St. He doesnt care about relationship, history or future business. He is cheap and unflexible as it relates to negotiation.
He frequently yells, loses his patience and tells you as a client/customer that you're lying. You have to lower yourself to his level to get any satisfaction and after years of dealing with having to arm wrestle for better prices, better service and being yelled at ... the relationship is finally severed.
I plan to take him to small claims court and I presently have Amex going head to head with him. This is New York City there are 100s of tailors to chose from.... Why chose a guy who is rude, unappreciative, and has never heard "the customer is always right." Rather in his world there is only Kelly. You make your own mind up... But these are all truthes. i would rather pay 2x than go to this ahole again.
- Pros: Very reasonable quality suits
- Cons: WORST SERVICE, HORRIBLE TREATMENT & TERRIBLE BUSINESS MAN
Great Tailor
by sbatista
I'm am extremely happy the work...suit fit like a glove. Even after a small misunderstanding with my choice of fabric, the problem was remedied professionally. You can really tell the difference in the quality of work performed. I highly recommend. Suits usually ready week before expected promise date. Will be going back soon.
- Pros: Courteous, Professional and Great Results
- Cons: None
Best Custom Suit Maker in New York City
by SAHILJHA84
It was my first time that I got a custom made suit from a Tailor. I always went to off-the-rack and got suit but they were not the best fit. Somewhere or the other you will find mistakes in off-the-rack clothings. I wanted to look perfect and after lot of R&D I tried La Rukico Tailors.
They gave me the best fitting suits and shirts I have ever bought in my life. The fabric "Loro Piana Super 160" is itself so beautiful and they got more fabrics like Zegna, Dormeuil etc. Working for Market Research I have known people or jealous business in New York write bad reviews against each other. And so is La Rukico Tailors being made victim of : Mr. Kelly and his associates are honest people and will give the best customer service. Their tailors take your measurement and will sure give you best fitting, if theres anything wrong you find they will surely fix it for you.
I am a happy customer and will surely come back to get some more suits and shirt made and I do recommend people who are looking for good clothing and at reasonable price to check out La Rukico Tailors.
- Pros: Best Tailor and Excellent Fabrics
- Cons: non
