Hidden Treasure

Tried finding this place twice and passed it, it's kind of tucked away on 45th St. Walk toward the back to find a small but beautiful dining room. There was only one other family there when I got there (at 6:30 PM!). Unlike one rating here, I found the music to be relatively soft (good, because Indian music is definitely an aquired taste.) The menu is great; you have alot of choice platters for good prices, $2, $4, etc. I got 2 platters for $5 a piece, but forgot to request to have them "mildly" spiced- no bother, since they were fine- not too bland or spicy. The food was great and you can eat like a king for cheap....my bill came to less than $12 and I was stuffed. The only disappointing thing was the service....the waitress was sweet but not experienced. I didn't get the bread I had ordered (no big deal since I ended up full anyway and wouldn't have eaten it), the table didn't get cleared of dishes between platters and she didn't really check if I wanted or needed anything. However, I'd rather deal with that type of "bad" service than a rude and pretentious waitress any day. Even though I was eating solo, I wasn't rushed (which some places do), even though the dining room was about 3/4 full at that point. I'll definitely be back though, there's too many good things going on at wonderful prices not to give it a second chance with the service. You won't be disappointed! Just bring your appetite and imagination!!
- Pros: great prices, cozy, good food
- Cons: inexperienced wait staff

Good variety but tasteless

The place has a good variety of snacks and vegetarian dishes. The food however is tasteless and the service is basically non-existent. I don't think I will go back there are so many good values in Indian Cuisine.
Lunch buffet - a total waste

I tried the buffet at Sukhadias last week and it was an absolute disappointment. Since I do cook Indian food pretty often, I know when the food is stale and the appetizer definitely was old stuff re-fried. There was hardly any variety - all of five badly made dishes. The dessert was the same as the drink - thickened mango smoothie. The mango drink was made with mango essence and definitely had no real mango in it. The food didn't agree with me at all and felt quie sick later.
- Pros: The Indian sweets (although I am not sure any of it is fresh)
- Cons: Quality of food
Great find in Times Square for vegetarians and others who like good Indian food.

Staying at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square for a conference I didn't expect to find a wonderful inexpensive Indian restaurant nearby. I just hoped to find a place with vegetarian food within walking distance. Anyway I found this place right away through a Google search for vegetarian restaurants near Times Square. This is not a fancy place but it's lovely and authentic and if you ask for suggestions you get good advice. We ordered an appetizer, two mango lassis, and two (generously sized) main courses with papadums, rice, and raita and were able to have a quick and delicious dinner for under $30.00 for two - less than the typical Indian restaurant in Boston and better than most. They have quite a lot of choice on the menu, very good chaats, and a large choice of sweets. Sukhadia is a terrific discovery and highly recommended.

I saw this delightful place on NYC TV, they were not lying when they said delicious. I?d say absolutely Fabulous. it?s a vegetarians dream come true when it comes to food and not to mention the desserts, plus all natural. Beautiful I love it. The people are as great as their food. My mouth is watering as I am writing this ;) Yes, you must visit!
- Pros: All natural traditional vegetarian food
- Cons: none

My wife and I came across this restaurant as we were seeking to get a quick bite before watching a show. What a delight! As we were in a hurry, the hostess pointed out the items on the menu that would be quickest to order, and in no time, we were enjoying really wonderful Indian food. Would greatly recommend it as a place for an inexpensive, quick meal. As a purely vegeterian restaurant, the menu offers some very healthy choices. The restaurant's decor is similar to a traditional diner, including a front counter with goodies for those with a sweet tooth. Highly recommend it!
- Pros: Great tasty and healthy vegeterian food
- Cons: None

Ok food, terrible service

My colleague and I (both indians) went to get some take out at sukhadia because work was busy and we were starving. We thought this would be the quickest and fastest way to get some indian food. Boy were we wrong. First of, the cashier was so rude, that she wouldn't even look at me when I was trying to ask her a question. And after five minutes of ignoring me, she says 'what do you want to order?'. I ordered Samosas and Bhell. My colleague took the smart route and went with the buffet. Unfortunately for her they gave her cold bread. As for me, I didn't realize that we had to pack our own take out as well. After five minutes of me waiting for my food, the cashier rudely tells me to get my own samosas ( no joke!!). To make matters worse, she never placed my order for bhel. Which leaves me waiting for another 10 minutes. So we are already there for 20 mins (without food). So much for quick run for food. To make matters worse, as my colleague is paying for her food, a non indian patron comes along to pay for her meal, the cashier completely ignores my colleague's bill (keeps her waiting) and greets the non indian patron. I didn't know racism existed within the same race. So my advise, if you're indian and want to go to this place, give yourself lot of time, patience, and don't expect to be greeted with a smile...
- Cons: Terrible service
Best Indian Food in NY!

We have been going to Sukhadia in NY since it opened. This is the very best vegetarian Indian food! The curries have excellent flavor and are not overly spicy. The paneer dishes are generous with paneer. The dosas are crisp and light. The chai is made perfectly!
We have been there for lunch, for dinner and take out, too. The service is always friendly. This is a small, family owned business and it is not pretentious. We always get a box of sweets to take home.
- Pros: Excellent vegetarian cuisine.
- Cons: None.
