great place to meet in a group

As part of the Metro New York Porsche Club I come to this restaurant once a month to meet fellow car enthusiasts for an evening of food drinks and fun. Our club is usually given a quiet table in the back where we can spread out if we need to. We never had a bad experience with the food or service so far. The waiters always come periodically to check on us, and make sure we have enough to eat and drink. We pretty much had all the appetizers on the menu and everything was good so far. The entrees have also been all great so far. No one has ever hassled us to hurry up and leave. It can be hard to find a place for a larger group of people to meet but we have absolutely no complaints. The staff is extremely tolerant, especially since we can't usually tell them exactly how many members will show up ahead of time. We are glad we found Brouwers and highly recommend this place!

Downtown Delight

I frquent Brouwers because I work and live in the area. The ambience is amazing. It's a great place to eat with the guys or enjoy a nice romantic dinner inside. Try the oysters and the pan seared sea bass. Great food and the beers are ice cold.

good service

went two thursday nights ago.. music was great.. serivce was great.. we had a tall waiter named matt .. he seemed calm coherent and we got our drinks fast .. would definatley say to go there

Food was inedible...service non exsistant

Have eaten here twice. First time it took about fifteen minutes to get someone's attention to order. Usually am patient but the restaurant was completely empty. Hostess and waitresses were non existent. Was waited on by a member of the bus boy staff. Left disappointed but tried it again for brunch. Groundhog's day. Service was poor and the food was cold and lacked any taste. I hope they improve as we have limited places in the neighborhood to eat.

bad food and service

HI MY NAME IS LISA AND I WENT TO BROUWERS RESTAUANTS ON 3/16/07 WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS FOR MY 23 BIRTHDAY AND I HAVE TO TELL EVERY ONE ABOUT THE TERRIBLE EXPERIENCES WE ALL HAD THERE THE FOOD IS DRY THE MEAT IS OVER COOK IT WAS JUST SO UPSETING TO US THE WAITRESS WHERE IN THE REST ROOM WITH OTHER WORKERS ILL REALLY DON'T KN WHAT THEY WHERE DOING IN THE LADYS ROOM BUT I COULD TELL YALL I HAD TO GET OUT OF THERE IT GOT ME SICK SEEING THAT HAPPENING IN A RESTAURANTS I REALLLY DON'T RECOMMEND FOR ANY BODY TO GO TO THAT RESTAURANTS THE FOOD WAS TERRIBLE THAT RESTAURANT NEED TO CLOSE DOWN THANK YOU FOR READING MY BAD EXPERIENCE AT BROUWERS STONE STREET REASTAURANT

Terrible food, terrible service, televisions everywhere

My husband and I live near Stone Street and decided to have brunch at Brouwers on impulse. It was a terrible decision that we regretted almost immediately.

We walked in at around 12:30 on Sunday and the place was completely empty. Upon learning that every room in the restaurant has a television or three we decided to sit in the front bar area where at least we could look out the windows. With a blaring TV on each side of us plus loud music playing from speakers overhead, it was difficult to concentrate on our conversation.

Brunch at Brouwers is prix fixe and seems like a bargain, but the menu choices are very limited. I ordered a salad to start and was given a huge plate of mixed greens which were literally floating in a puddle of vinegar. The whole thing was inedible. My husband didn't fare much better with his grapefruit brulee, which is a grapefruit half covered in sugar and torched. The mimosa I ordered had almost no champagne in it and my husband's bloody mary had almost no vodka. I asked for no toast or bread and received not only toast but a huge basket of rolls and muffins as well.

Our waiter stood and chatted with his coworkers while my coffee cup sat empty, and only after we'd picked at the food (which was terrible--the eggs were dry, the sausage was cheap, and the potatoes were soggy and swimming in grease) for at least half an hour did he reappear to ask us how things were. At that point we asked for the check and he made us wait for another 10 minutes, despite having no other occupied tables to deal with.

The restaurant was completely empty, yet we experienced the worst service I've ever had in NYC. The food is inedible, the drinks are laughably light, and the ambience is miserable. I'm not sure how Brouwers stays open, and it certainly doesn't deserve such a prime spot on otherwise wonderful Stone Street. Avoid at all costs.

Bad Food, Lousy Service, Avoid at all costs

I went to Brouwers last night with a friend of mine. For a slow night, it look a long amount of time to be greeted and sat. Insignificant, at first, this was an omen of things to come. After we ordered our drinks, we took a look at their limited menu. Only three appetizers were listed as well as about 7 entrees. Nothing sounded too appetizing, so we settled on their gnocchi special of the day (best part of the meal, by far) my friend ordered the sauteed chicken, basically chicken piccata, and I selected a cheeseburger to be safe. I like my hamburgers and steaks cooked rare, so naturally I ordered it that way here. The waitress came back after a 5 minutes and asked me again how I wanted my burger cooked. Another omen. For a slow monday night, I find it difficult that a server would forget such an uncomplicated order. Our food arrived pretty quickly, although we asked a food runner for some Tabasco and A1 Steak Sauce, which he forgot all about. My personal "JC Experience" was going up to the bar and asking for these condiments. My friend's chicken dish was dried out and overcooked. My hamburger was cooked medium well, when I asked for it, twice, to be served "RARE." We were in a hurry so we ate our meals rather quickly, stacked up all the side plates and silverware onto our plates and placed our napkins on the table: Clear indicators that we were finished with the meal. We waited about twenty minutes for our waitress, Dina, to come and clear our table and give us our bill. She never came, so I had to approach her at the computer station. I kinda felt bad, what with me interrupting her conversation with her co-workers and all, but, she was after all, at work. I've worked in a restaurant in little italy for almost three years. We seat over 600 people there, yet we manage to pay extreme attention to each and everyone of our customers. In the financial district, there are dozens of excellent restaurants. I would avoid this one like the plague.

Jimmy Charles is a class act

There are a bunch of reasons to visit Brouwers - great food, large beer selection, beautiful waitresses. There is only one thing, however, that sets this place above the rest on Stone Street. His name is Jimmy Charles, and he is the man.

You can find Jimmy working the bar at Brouwers five nights a week. More often though, you'll find Jimmy working the crowd. Take a minute to introduce yourself, and you can bet your drink will be poured before you get to the bar on your next visit.

You just don't find the "JC experience" at many other spots in New York these days. Let's enjoy it while it lasts.

There's more to this Financial District gastropub than beer and blowing off workplace steam.

After the close of the bell, moneyed power-players congregate at this pub and grill on a cobblestoned corner. An oak bar, faux gaslight chandeliers, recessed pressed-tin ceilings and antique prints play up an Old New York theme. While the designer thought to make a clear distinction between the bar and the dining room, the boisterous patrons do not. Bring your own earplugs. Though the name, appropriately, is an archaic version of "brewery," the traditional American menu rises well above the beer-soaked atmosphere.
