The apartments are clean and very nice decorated

by dianewallhw

Very convenient to convention center - just one long block to walk, great to have refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker on hand with stores very close by, staff friendly, casual, atmosphere, have used this vacation rentals for conventions three times now - best value around.

The Restaurant is on 27th St. very close to Javits Center very good breakfast and lunch, the restaurant staff help me to carry my luggage to the center the last day.

We read some bad reviews but for my own personal opinion the apartment was very clean and nice, and the crew in the restaurant are very professional and friendly.

It is essential that you do not stay here

by Phillige1

First off, I have to stress for anyone looking at these reviews, that it is essential that under any circumstances you do not book at the Antique Cafe Bed and Breakfast.

It began when my partner booked our trip to NY and also booked the apartment in advance by 2 months through the Antique Cafe B&B. The owner took the money from our personal credit credit card in advance by 1 month which was not agreed to in the documentation and without my authorization. I thought was unusual and contacted the owner who assured me that this was a clerical error so I agreed that this was fine.

When we arrived in NY to pick up the keys for our 5 night stay the owner was not available and the staff had no idea what we were talking about. We waited for about an hour for the owner to appear, when he did appear he profusely apologized and advised us that the roof had fallen in on our apartment and that he was very sorry

He advised us that we should book in to the holiday inn for 3 nights whilst the apartment was being fixed and he would reimburse us for this amount immediately when we came back 3 days later.

We returned 3 days later and the owner was not at the cafe as agreed to previously. His business partner stated that the apartment had now be rented out to some other people and that he could not get in contact with the owner, and that we should come back 2 days later for our refund (we were catching a flight out of NY on that day). I was beginning to get alarmed as by this stage I had read the other reviews on this site.

During this time we were being delayed and stone walled by the owners partner who insisted it had nothing to do with him. We ended up contacting the Government Department in NY that handles tourism issues who advised us to contact the non-emergency section of the NY police to report this as Theft, which we did. About half an hour later two NYPD officers showed up (we had been at the cafe waiting for about 4 hours overall) and they questioned the business partner who then agreed that we would get a refund of the original amount when the owner returned in 2 days (we paid around $1700 for the alternative accommodation).

We returned in 2 days and after about an hour the owner begrudgingly gave us half of the amount of the alternative accommodation. I am currently in the process of seeking advice on obtaining the other monies owed to us and as well as taking the necessary steps to report this business to the appropriate New York authorities.

It almost ruined an otherwise fantastic holiday in New York and does not reflect in any way on New York in general as we found everyone to be great and friendly.

But I must stress this again, you should not book the Antique Cafe Bed and Breakfast for accommodation as it cannot be guaranteed that you will get any accommodation.

This is a wonderful place to stay while visiting New York

by roosveltcliffboston

This is a wonderful place to stay while visiting New York. Located in a VERY safe part of the city, with nice clean apartment, a super friendly staff/owner and within walking distance to many places and just 1/2 block from all public transportation. Nice continental breakfast in the morning including coffee, tea, pastries, fruit and breakfast cereal. Has a real nice clientele staying. While here, we got to meet several of the other guests. Lots of restaurants/bars/shopping/grocery stores within a couple of blocks. We HIGHLY recommend staying there to everybody visiting New York on the west village area.

  • Pros: service and very clean
  • Cons: hard to find a reservation have to change my dates

DO NOT LISTEN TO THE POSITIVE REVIEWS. THIS SERVICE IS TERRIBLE

by ESTRELLAALLERTSE

First off, you have to go to a cafe to pick up the keys to get to the apartment. He was nice at first but once something went wrong , the owner Marciel was just rude and mean. He is not professional. I should of read the other bad reviews because the same thing happened to me. I believe he is writing these reviews himself. He ruined our trip

West Village Haven

by MQtathamar

Staying on 14th Street for the New Year was a little crazy, but I felt safe and was glad I got this location for the holiday. I love coming to the West Village, this stay made it really easy for me to get where I needed to go. Pretty reasonably priced for New York, $250 per night, and I had a great studio apartment to myself, with a balcony. As I love to cook, I enjoyed the ease of the kitchen space, and shopping in the neighborhood for food with all the great choices was refreshing. This location is also close to a number of West Village/Chelsea art galleries, which I took a day to explore. Coming back to the B&B was a welcome safe haven. I would recommend Antique Cafe to most people, young professionals, or for a New York honeymoon. Maybe not the best place for people with small kids as the space has an adult and romantic feel, you may want to leave the kids with relatives for a few days.

Best Stay I've Had In Manhattan So Far

by Trotter7

I am really enjoying my stay at this B&B, so much that I want to take a minute on my laptop and write about it. I'm in the Chelsea location, and if it's not too hackneyed a term, it's "fabulous"! Really great interior, very modern, and very, very private. The online booking was a little confused, and for a while I didn't get confirmation that I was set to stay. I had to send a couple emails and finally call just to be sure. I didn't get a response online but when I called and spoke to Marcial, everything was verified. Afterwards, he sent me a personal confirmation email. Aside from that, I've had no problems. It's remarkable enough for me to invest 10 minutes of online accolades. That and it's walking distance to great shops and restaurants. It's made my holiday shopping a breeze, and I'll have something else to smile about when I get back home to my family.

  • Pros: Location, Beautiful Space
  • Cons: Online Booking Was Slow
