I've seen a few PCP doctors and Dr Liakeas always seems to be right on mark: His diagnosis and action has always been spot on. I believe this is partly due to Dr Liakeas accepting a patient's feedback on what is ailing him and what the patient thinks is wrong. I know my body pretty well, having lived in it for 45 years. I am well educated and believe I have a good idea whats wrong with me when I am sick. Dr Liakeas does not hesistate to provide a specialist referral which is very good. (I dislike doctors that insist on numerous tests before doing a specialist referrral). Dr Liakeas has personally followed up with me a few times to make sure I was healing properly. Overall a great doctor who I will continue to consult in both sickness and in health.
Pros: Works hard on a proper diagnosis the first time
Cons: None

great experience. not like others. dr liakeas was very pleasant and down to earth but made objectives and plans very clear before finishing. he was very accessible and more importantly addressed topics thoroughly before ending the appointment. my emergency visit probably made the next person slightly delayed but i would have spent 6 hours in the emergency room just waiting to be seen. dr liakeas came highly recommended by my entire firm and lived up to his reputation. i have since recommendd him to my family and friends. the office was clean, professional, and "hip". there was no sense of sickness or negativity amongst the other people in the waiting room and the office / patients seemed to all be typical high end manhattanites. dr liakeas was dressed very high end but could clearly make anyone feel relaxed and heard. most of all, he correctly diagnosed me just by hearing my story and then did appropriate tests to confirm. i got my results the next day and a followup call a week later. highly recommended
Pros: everything i said
Cons: you almost want to get sick again just to keep in touch

for fun i was searching people & came across the posting by jj. i laughed hysterically. i was a med student observing dr liakeas for a month and remember him telling me about patients like this. dr liakeas (who was voted professor of the year by ny meds' AOA national honor society) is unsurpassed in everyway as a dr & a person. i would know as i have worked with soo many md's & hve found him to be stellar at diagnosis / plan management / clinical acumen but most of all, i have never seen a dr who listens, cares, and follows up on his patient's as much as he does. he is super accessible and smart. what i did see were patients who would rudely insist on urgent then they would disrupt the day & other appts and keep him away from any chance at a break. (i have seen it), they would squeeze in & expect an hour of his time like this was a "therapy" session or something. what was really amazing is how many patients swore by him & told me horror stories about other drs. almost all of his patients are referrals and that says it all. the greatest thing about him was his ability to communicate and offer plans to address patients concerns. dr L makes sure to call back everyone and is the most organized person i have ever seen. this guy probably got a prescription for a medicine that didnt warrant a safety discussion but instead wanted the dr to hold his hand while urgent issues were going on. he didnt mention that he was probably called a week later by dr L to see how he was doing! as for the other dr, she is also very bright and professional & with a 5th Ave practice when not w dr L. other offices i know use assistants in place of an MDs care (and here jj ONLY wanted dr L). i guess you cant please everyone but if jj thinks he is going to find a better experience / service he should go to the doctors i have been to. i am still waiting for my gyn dr to give me results from 2005!!!!! but hey 1 bad review in 6000+ patients is pretty good i guess. good luck jj
Pros: PROFESSIONAL, CARING, SMART, ACCESSIBLE
Cons: EVERYONE WANTS A PIECE OF HIS TIME

Went to Liakeas first on a Tuesday, when I realized that he had absolutely no time to see me, and a woman who works with him on Tues and Thursdays started a whirlwhind medical exam talking so fast (so fast I cant even remember her name), not explaining a thing. That being a horrible visit, I decided to give Dr. Liakeas a second chance on a Monday, when the crazy woman doctor was definitely not in (he was a recommendation from a doctor that I love, how bad could he be right? maybe he just happened to be busy that day...) The second time I went in to see him, he was crazy busy... again. After waiting for about 15 minutes, he calls me and says "I have another patient in the other room. Do you need a little bit of my time today or a lot?" Considering that this was a follow up appointment, I said "a moderate amount?" No matter what insurance you have, I think its highly unacceptable to be asked that when you made an appointment well in advance. I think I probably said one word and all of a sudden he was talking SO fast, not even taking a breath, while simultaneously writng scrip after scrip of meds that I might need (but didn't want and didn't ask for)... and referrals of specialists that I don't really need to see... can we say "dumping?" Not one question about what my symptoms were, how I'm feeling... just some easy scips. No explanation of the meds that were being prescribed. side effects? who knows? I'll have to ask WebMD. If you are looking for an easy scrip, please by all means go visit Dr. Liakeas. Don't have the greatest insurance? Don't worry about it... just be prepared to say one word and he'll do the rest of the talking. If, however, you're looking to have a GP who might be interested in learning a little more (even 5 minutes worth) of why you feel the way you do, continue your search, this is definitely not the doctor you want to come to.
Pros: What looks like a nice beauty parlor/salon in the same office
Cons: everything else
